Yes, as others mentioned, it was released in the US under a different name - Odium.
Gorky 17 has a great atmosphere, and as for combat - it's not repetitive at all, you face many different mutants and get new tools to kill them through the whole game. Weapon proficiency levels and a constant shortage of ammo require each of your characters to specialize in different weapons (so it's nothing like "arm the whole group with rifles and just shoot everything"), meaning you have to position them correctly on the combat chessboard for their arms to be effective (or to attack at all, i.e., pistols and uzis can't fire diagonally, shotguns have low range).
It is quite short though, but packs lots of fun.
I might consider getting it as well, just have to check if my old version works with winXP :)
