Protoss: What if you own all games already that you could get for free at buying?
Then write an email to users@gog.com (check the email address, to be sure, but it's something like that) mentioning that fact.

I did, they replied me and asked me to choose any game on GOG (except The Witcher 2, of course). Later the same day, they gifted it to me. ^_^

Ang God no, I don't want achievements with my The Witcher 2 game !! The only game i ever cared about the achievements was Plants vs Zombies...
Why do some people care so much about Steam achievements? Do these people feel nobody appreciates them and want to be recognized for something, no matter how trivial to the world that something is?

The big issue here is, I am restricted to buying the GOG version because I am in Europe and every other version is a ripoff! For example, the Steam version is essentially a third (!) more expensive (on GOG while paying the same price one gets a store credit about the difference, or maybe a 5.99 and a 9.99 game to choose).

Another reason to say "screw Steam" then.
If you really like achievements as much as I do, I'd say screw the nay-sayers and get it on Steam. Back when I hadn't given my PS3 to my brother, it was what made me choose 360 over PS3 when it came to multi-platform games.

Well, for Steam it will end in buying the game at a sale when it is for like 5 Euro in two or three years. :-)

I'd hold off on buying The Witcher 2 right away, anyway. Something tells me that the game will either be amazing or terrible. No middle ground.

lackoo1111: Why do you need achievements in an RPG game ? Especially Steam achievements .
avatar
saluk: Because learning all the spells, getting max level, and seeing all of the endings, only count if you can put it on your profile with some stupid tongue-in-cheek name to show the world how 1337 you are.
and 100k other people with you...
Personally, I always preferred an in-game achievement system. A list of things to encourage you to do certain things in the game. Universal achievement points and stuff like that just doesn't mean anything to me.

liquidsnakehpks: more than achievements it would be better to buy the steam version if it had cloud support it least you dont have to worry about the save files
avatar
OneFiercePuppy: You worry about save files?

It keeps you up at night, the thought that there might be files on your hard drive that you don't need? Or that some data demon could come along and cackle maniacally as it erases that save game of yours?

I don't really understand the obsession with the cloud. Maybe I'm just too old and grouchy. Or maybe I just have an extra hard drive ^_^
I don't understand it either. I have all my saves on my PC as well as a backup drive, and it has suited me fine. Additionally, I am confused why people continue to support Steam and cloud saves, when a Dropbox account can essentially do the same thing. Not to mention, the latter gives you greater control over those saves than Steam, who doesn't let you view the files at all.

-lolol convenience
-no need to remember additional account credentials
-<add another pathetic Steam fanboy excuse>
I think I would go get a CT scan done if I choose the steam version because of artificial achievements.

I wouldn't surprised if several achievements were progress things like open gate A or throw switch B. I wouldn't be surprsied if an achievemnt was sleep with all the wenches.

The they'll probably have even dumber things like max out ability Y when that defeats the purpose of a leveling system since it's there for you to craft your own unqiue player as you progress, not to light up some icons in your profile.

There's nothing wrong with using Steam. It's practically the only place I buy PC games from.
