DelusionsBeta: It's interesting that people are claiming that Steam keys cost the developer money when all the evidence on that matter I've seen suggested the inverse is true.
Yeah, Steam ends up losing money because of the bandwidth used by people downloading their games.

On the other hand, they get some new customers that way. So for them it's win win either way.

dr.zli: in my days, games were made out of wood and had no achievments! XD
Nonsense. There were those achievement patches you could sew onto your Games For Winter Mac.

Protoss: They could make a deal where you send a proof of purchase on GOG to Valve or something. It would be possible with credit card, if you ever bought from Steam. ^^

And by the way, you get the preorder bonus without actually buying it from GOG later.
They could, but nobody knows now. Maybe even they don't have decided this now. Just wait until the game is out.

Here is the plan: pre-ordering on GOG doesn't mean you're obligated to buy the game. You can decide later. I know this for sure because I pre-ordered accidentally (shame on me) and panicked and asked them and they told me so. I actually even might make the deal, if first user reviews are really good.

So, just pre-order now from GOG. Then after 17th of May when the game is released and Steam achievements work, ask them if you get an additional Steam key. If yes, buy it here. If no, decide what is more important to you.

Do you really think there's any point in asking so much over so little? Okay, clearly you do...

lackoo1111: Why do you need achievements in an RPG game ? Especially Steam achievements .
Because learning all the spells, getting max level, and seeing all of the endings, only count if you can put it on your profile with some stupid tongue-in-cheek name to show the world how 1337 you are.

'Cause it's an action/RPG-hybrid, and it's got a hardcore mode. Also, "Achievement unlocked" feeds my addiction.

Nobody is addicted! Just enjoying getting achies.
If you would rather support Steam achievements than DRM free games then buy the Steam version. If Steam ever goes down without patching the games and you are locked out I am 100% positive the community will have a well-publicized fix for it.

I bet that's some kind of crack then.

liquidsnakehpks: more than achievements it would be better to buy the steam version if it had cloud support it least you dont have to worry about the save files
You worry about save files?

It keeps you up at night, the thought that there might be files on your hard drive that you don't need? Or that some data demon could come along and cackle maniacally as it erases that save game of yours?

I don't really understand the obsession with the cloud. Maybe I'm just too old and grouchy. Or maybe I just have an extra hard drive ^_^

if you have played some of the old rpgs specially diablo and warcraft series you would know how sensitive and important save files are in rpg games specially the loot is stored in it
i have lost tons of my characters in many rpgs due game crashes, system hangs etc
instead of manually backing up your saves each time its better to let the cloud do it
in some rpgs even a simple ptach could wipe out save files

Any new info?

EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/v/_Ynx522jesY - Achievements are confirmed.

What about a Steam key for GOG buyers?

What if you own all games already that you could get for free at buying?

You get a serial key with The Witcher for the optional activation. Chances are that serial key will work on Steam.
Steam Cloud (I really love this feature) and Steam Achievements, go buy it from Steam. I hope they will open pre-load on Steam too.

Steam activation is not possible for GOG.com buyers as far as I know. Borderlands and Test Drive Unlimited 2 for example, they have Steam Achievements only on Steam version and there is no retail Steam activations for them too.

Nah, key's only work on Steam if the games use Steamworks. The GOG version doesn't.
