I don't like heavy metal (I just have different tastes) but I would not create a new thread that is so goddamned inflammatory about it and I wouldn't even dare make assumptions like that about its listeners, some of whom I know and are quite nice people.

Also, I'm pretty sure the guys in Mastodon don't have long hair, but quite thick beards. So remember that when you make the silly assumption that the only people who are into metal are part of some stereotype.

DProject: Hehe! Well, I was just semi-jokingly asking that, because in my experience people who hate metal, are usually rappers and vice-versa. Or at least they seem (to me) to be the most eager to trash the opposite genre.

Anyway...the genre you like? I'm totally going to rely on my conclusions / impressions as facts, and though I don't know much about you, here's something I do know:
1. Your avatar has a longhaired dude playing a string instrument, so that's gotta mean something
2. You're generous and light-hearted with your giveaways, which means you must be a hippie of some sort

= you enjoy rock music that's not too heavy, so I'd guess your fave band is Weezer. How right am I?

(please find a hint of sarcasm and joking in my completely unprofessional analysis=)
Hehe, you're not too far off with the hippy thing... I mostly like folky stuff and psychedelic stuff (and especially combinations of the two). Way off with Weezer though, I've hardly heard any of their stuff. I would have to say and [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6hkVXpQYYg]this would be good examples of what I like.

And don't worry, I was joking before anyway. After all, this is a pretty stupid thread. :P

To each their own as in all things.

The Metal I like is from the 70's and 80's. More so now that at the time. Occasionally I can get into something new, but mostly I hear the modern stuff as being junpleasent noise. I don't hear the music in it. But whatever Metal I listen to, I most specifically have to be in the right mood for it. I gotta be ramped up and raging. Or at least geared up and highly energetic. I love Metal in these times. Nothing else works. Energetic Bluegrass comes close and fits some moods better that Metal. I really it when I'm working the land at full steam.

I like a wide range of music. For all of it it's a mood thing. When I'm sipping wine with a lady there is a music for that. When pounding beers with my buds there is a music for it. There's music for my earthy labors. Music for my mellow and agro moods. On and on. About the only music I never dig is the hateful violence, the noisy screech fests, and the high pitched operatic. I don't listen to much dance club music. I find it too repetitive. But I'm sure that if I can find the right mood I would get into it. I long to backpack Europe. Perhaps at a techno party I can find that groove.

Some of those even have guts to tell others that music made with computers isn't real music, well let me tell you man with longhair screaming into mic isin't either so there you go.
If you don't like metal, especially heavy metal, music, its fine, but no need to be insulting about it. Of course you are going to be voted down, if you insult people's taste in music and the listeners themselves. Maybe you would be better served by asking the fans what they like about it.

I'm not much of a fan of heavy metal music either, I prefer power metal and alternative metal. Try these out:
