Hawk52: And the other is the simple fast that no matter how Obsidian is beloved round these parts, they have a notorious history of making broken games.
I don't recall ever playing a broken game from Obsidian. Of course I rarely buy new games so maybe I got them patched and you are talking about their original states? However, I know all I played were patched and working fine by the time I got them. The games of theirs I have played are Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2, NWN2, and Fallout New Vegas. I've had no problems with them, though Star Wars 2 was a bit rough and rushed, I played it all the way to the finish without a hitch (and liked it), and to be able to make such a game in only a yearish? That was impressive. Both NWN 2 and FNV worked fine for me, never had one problem with them, so it must be other games you are referring to, or you are talking about their initial releases, which I have no experience with. Never played Dungeon Siege 3 or Alpha Protocol, so don't know about them. Oh and I didn't use fan patches on any of those games, and still found them free from major bugs and enjoyable, of course that's me. To each their own, and if you didn't like their games, well, I can understand that, I dislike games others like too.
Still, you probably know something I don't know about them, so please take no offense from what I said, I'm just telling you my personal experiences with their games is all. ;)
Why didn't you back the Obsidian kickstarter?

I won't back anything on Kickstarter until they allow truly international projects. Right now, you have to have someone on a project be a US citizen in the US. They'll happily take money from all around the world, but they can't be bothered to implement payment processes which will support projects without a US connection? That just annoys me no end.

That seems wrong to me too, I'm guessing their must be some legal (read money) reason for this. They are a business first, so making money should be their primary goal, so the only reason why I could think they would do that is because they would loose money on it. However, maybe that will soon change since they seem to be growing bigger and bigger. I doubt the company is full of USA fan-boys who despise other countries and their mama's. ;-P (of course I could be wrong, you mama's ARE uglies) :-p
kidding!

It's because they only use Amazon's payment system to pay out apparently, and that's US only.
I disagree with Chris Avellone's opinion on the Second-Hand Gaming Market :-P
I DID back it for $20 but I had to pull my pledge. I have a good amount of games I haven't played yet and if I run out of unplayed games I can replay what I've got. I'm also short on money so I probably won't be buying anything else from GOG this year either (Christmas is comin' and I have to buy presents for the family). Finally, the game is also going to come out on GOG so I'll just wait until there's a sale for it here.

htown1980: I'm guessing most people did, but I didn't (I have backed 7 successful kickstarter campaigns). My reasons were a combination of: 1. Obsidian didn't need my money - they were definitely getting enough to make the game. 2. I stopped playing games in around 1996 so I missed out on most Obsidian releases so don't have that nostalgia. 3. I want to back the "Quest for Glory" kickstarter (as I like to call it even though technically it isn't and I figure they will be lower profile and more in need of my money. 4. They didn't initially announce mac support or drm free which kept me sitting on the fence for a while. 5. I have a big backlog of games, particularly rpgs, including Baldurs Gates, Icewind Dales, Fallouts, Planescapes, and didn't really need to add another rpg to the list. Am I the only person who didn't back it? If not, what were your reasons?
What Quest for Glory kickstarter?

Conditional pledging is what makes kickstarter effective in solving the free rider/prisoners dilemma problem of crowdfunding. Conditional pledging requires a delayed charge without escrow payment processing that was only offered by Amazon's Flexible payments system and not say, Paypal. That is why indiegogo does not have conditional pledging. Why is Amazon payments US only? Because of regulations related to taxes and money laundering, and the cost of compliance with those regulations. So it doesn't make sense to believe that kickstarter is being evil or parochial for being US/UK only.

He did not mean what he said in his other reply

I heard about that too, but first impression lasts longer. Alright, alright, you've got me. Option 7, it is :-)
Guys, FYI - it's not a "Quest for Glory" kickstarter.

It's a new adventure/RPG called "Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption" by the creators of QfG.

I feel obligated to point this out because despite this being said in the press articles, people are still going to be mad when the new game isn't QfG.
I'm restricting myself to adventure game Kickstarters only (if I didn't it would be "Option 7").

Interesting, I wondered if it had something to do with Amazon, thanks for confirming it. They should definitely open it to Paypal or even let you enter your card information directly through them. Don't know why they wouldn't at least work out some deal with Paypal, if possible. One would think that they have a big enough budget that they should be able to do that. Maybe it hasn't occurred to them yet, you know, they are just Americans. We'z spimple kinda folk here bouts, yep. ;-P
Or maybe they signed some exclusive contract with Amazon? Wouldn't shock me. "Seemed like a good idea at the time."

FYI it will only be US only for 13 days or so:
