Zookie: ...and what kind of people are they? ...

Trilarion: I guess they are bit of everything: bored, unpolite, think they deserve better or think their opinion is extremely valuable, feel safe in their anonymous position, maybe a bit slow on understanding the positions of others, definitely attention seeking with a tendency to narcism.

Add all this, maybe leave one or two things out, stir and you get a troll.
I think that you are right. I suppose what really got me thinking about this is that I always figured that trolling is something you would find primarily in forums that target younger audiences because you would have more immature people. But go to any cable news website, or you local news website, and read the comments posted on just about any story and see what you get compared to any gamer site. I guess gamers as just more well adjusted people than news junkies.
I think trolls are an example of so-called "radical evil" - an attitude wherein a person does not cause others harm through self-centered pursuit of good but rather... hurting others, making them upset is the goal itself.
And don't you even try to give me that bullshit about the trolls being perfectly fine people IRL. The anonymity merely gives people confidence to act unrestrained and do as they please.
TROLL ? NOT TROLL ! FIREFIST !

Asbeau: A mummy troll and a daddy troll?
You speak more truth than you know. Many of these kids that spend their time trolling on the internet do so because their parents talk to them like shit.

anjohl: In my experience, a dissenting opinion or a willingness to call "bullshit".
Most of the times I've seen you accused of being a troll, it's because you're trying to start petty flame wars by stating things in an inflamatory manner.

jamyskis: The problem is that so many people mix up trolling - a deliberate and desperate attempt to attract attention by posting abhorrent things and deliberately trigger a flamewar - with raging, or even simply by holding a minority opinion.
I think this says it well.
