I don't get why companies just take notice of the success of non DRM solutions and the failures of DRM. embrace your customer and treat them with value, not with barred walls...
I'd be so happy with DRM-free Ubi games, even if they're interested in doing their own DRM-free digital distribution; I don't care, just want dem games.

sbolokanov: Ha-hA-HA!

This coming from Ubi. W...T...F!

ChrisSD: Read it again. They say DRM can't stop piracy... so we need more always online DRM.
Oh eff, I knew I should have read the article.

It's obvious that he thinks that the traditional types of DRM don't work, not that Ubi is abolishing any and all kind of DRM.
"This is not the DRM you are looking for."

Exactly this. Empty words from Ubisoft.

Yeah I feel like people only read the headline and not his actual words..

I really hope people read the actual article as well, otherwise there is no point in providing a source. It would suck if Ubisoft got a few sales out of this.

Corporate Suit A: "So, about our DRM..."
Corporate Suit B: "Uh-huh...?"
Corporate Suit A: "People hate it?"
Corporate Suit B: "Yup."
Corporate Suit A: "It doesn't stop piracy?"
Corporate Suit B: "Yup."
Corporate Suit A: "It cripples a lot of our games?
Corporate Suit B: "Yup."
Corporate Suit A: "Sometimes makes them completely unplayable?"
Corporate Suit B: "Yup."
Corporate Suit A: "It even hurts our sales because it actively discourages potential customers from buying our games?"
Corporate Suit B: "Yup."
Corporate Suit A: "Isn't that...like...bad?"
Corporate Suit B: "Yup."
Corporate Suit A: "So, what should we do?"
Corporate Suit B: "Um..."
Corporate Suit A: "Huh..."
Corporate Suit B: "Maybe we...no. Never mind."
Corporate Suit A: "Hm..."
Corporate Suit B: "Oh, I know!"
Corporate Suit A: "What?"
Corporate Suit B: "We introduce even MORE DRM!"
Corporate Suit A: "Of course! I'm so slow!"

It was an honest brain-fart, I swear!

There's a reason headlines are worded a certain way. ;-)
Ironically, the pirates they want to target won't even be affected by any type of DRM. All this means for regular folks is that they won't buy Ubi's infested stuff, then. Lame.

Ha, I'm not picking on you honest!

Just don't ever let me catch you doing or else... :P
The new DRM has been 'online' for a long time already, it's a big reason why EA made that statement long ago about focusing on games with online features.

It's a big reason why GOG needs to step into online/multiplayer despite it skirting the DRM line. Given long enough, there simply won't be games to add to to GOG anymore without those.

All the more reason to fight this sooner than later.

I think there are lots of us who don't like gaming alongside Big Brother.

wolfsrain: And that's exactly what i do not want to see in my games, either.
As long as the extra services are not actually necessary in order to play the game, I see no problem with it. Sadly, they might very well be, in which case it's DRM all over again ("you need access to our servers for these things to work, and we won't let you disable them").
