I'll add something very important to this thread. Steam is good, the free market has spoken. Remember when no one used it aside from HL2? Yea, that was when it sucked.
See how stuff works out like that?
I don't know if this is fact, but a conjecture I have is that many consumer complaints over Steam games probably come from lack of testing before releasing on to their catalog. GOG, I can say for certain, test out their games before releasing them. Kudos to them for doing so - in fact, GOG goes as far as to tweak the DOSBOX settings properly for the crowd, making games as playable as possible, something which might require a few hours of tweaking for something like the M&M6 compilation. If you ask me, I feel like I've earned much more value for the amount of money I've paid for the games. Their support for the games they release is invaluable.
Again, I can't say for certain that Steam doesn't test out their games before releasing them, but it's very telling about their commitment towards service excellence if their games don't work while GOG ones do.

Games like Commandos or Jagged Alliance 2 showed that if they do test their games, the test looks like:
*employee runs the game*
*employee gets to the main menu*
*employee marks the game as working*
*employee moves to next game to test*

*employee gets mad dorra for doing almost nothing*

sounds like regular software development/testing to me :p

That's what happens when you cut production costs.
Or outsource everything to China...

We could do with some jobs.

Move to Poland and get a job. Poland appears to be China's version of America(as in: Polish money is worth more than Chinese money...). I'm serious, lots of Chinese/Korean people here.

That's because all the Polish people are in Denmark and the UK, taking our jobs ;-p

Maybe it's ironic but it's probably the truth. Here's the games I had problems with:
Two Worlds: refused to run because it didn't add registration info in the registry
Commandos: ran too fast
Aliens vs Predator: too many problems to name
Arx Fatalis: too many problems to name
Beyond Good & Evil: serious graphic problems + speed issues
Dracula: Origins: serious mouse issues for anyone who uses a Logitech mouse
Doom I & II: crucial files were deleted + bad DOSBox settings (goes for most DOSbox games)
Quake I: CD music was thrown out
Jagged Alliance 2: some serious bugs
Hexen II: CD music thrown out
There's probably more but these are the ones I remember - I do own 140 games on Steam. Nearly all old games are just not fixed and contain all the errors that they have on modern systems.

looking at the television programs they have here, most of us migrate to France, Italy or something to run a bed & breakfast or a hotel or a travel service.
@red_avatar : what is your problem with doom on steam? which files are you talking about? I'm playing them for a week now and haven't noticed anything odd :-/

Uhm, nowhere, as far as I know. We just turn unemployed.
