As our catalog gets bigger and better every week, it's easy to lose track of some of the awesome games that we have to offer. We've been running one day "Gaming Gem" promos for a while now to highlight some classic titles that don't get the love of some of our best-known blockbusters like Baldur's Gate or Duke Nukem 3D. To celebrate summer, for the next two weeks until July 25th, we're going to run a Gaming Gem promo every day, so you can rediscover these lesser-known classics! Grab that plastic toy shovel and dig out gem after gem over the next 18 days. We think every game we're going to be offering on our Summer GOG.com Gem Extravaganza will be an excellent title, and we hope you give them all a try.

World War II history freaks, get your monies ready! We have something especially for you on the plate today. If you’re a bit tired of reading about the biggest conflict in the history of humanity, why not recreate it on our PC and not harm anyone? In [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/strategic_command_european_theater]Strategic Command: European Theater instead of being a cog of the war machine, you look at the big picture managing armies, negotiating politics, and making all the strategic decisions. It’s a very complex and detailed representation of a table top wargame, where you as the supreme commander of either Allies or Axis forces play through six campaigns from the very beginning of the conflict till its last days. Although this seems to be a game only appealing to “grognards”, the AI lets less advanced gamers play and enjoy the game. With multiplayer options allowing to play over Internet, hot-seat or the old school way “Play By Email”, the ones looking for a bigger challenge will find something for themselves as well.

Strategic Command: European Theater is 60% off for the next 24 hours and can be yours for only $3.99. Get it until tomorrow, July 25 at 5:59 a.m. EDT (9:59 a.m. GMT). If you already own this title or it’s just not your type of game, be sure to check back tomorrow for the last Summer Gem Promo!

keeveek: I wanted to buy it by myself, but my bank took 10 bucks from my account as an "annual fee" for running my account...
avatar
FiatLux: Doesn't sound like you are used to pay for bank services.
I pay around $14 per three months for having the account I have , including the standard services and benefits for that specific type of account.. (Writing checks and paying giro-cards costs extra)
In Poland, most of the bank account are free to run. But not in my bank. But I don't want to change it, because I would have to inform at least 3 different authorities (taxes reasons), etc etc. And 10 bucks a year is not expensive, but they did it TODAY, that's what pissed me off :P

jaxdia: Sounds like you guys are getting screwed. We don't pay anything. You only pay if you want to upgrade your account to have features tacked on like mobile phone insurance, travel insurance, things like that. Unless you're a business. Then you have to pay extra for cheques.
I can have a free account too.... (they have more free types)
However I can report that there have been more than one public out cry because of the banks fees and the great amount of money they make on people.
For my account type I do however have nice features attached (like no extra fee when buying cash foreign currency - drawn from the account - and 3 plastics without any extra yearly fees - only extra fees for the plastics are if using credit) , so it is kind of OK. With respect to the cheques fee then I guess that cheques are so obsolete that one have to pay to use them (around a dollar per pop) - often young people in shops don't even know how to handle a cheque (I don't use cheques in shops normally).

Sounds difficult to switch bank in Poland ;-)

Anyway they have tightened rules when switching banks, and for some payments too, where I live. Nowadays If you go to a bank and pay a cash amount of like $600 they are allowed to ask for ID to avoid attempted white-washing of money. Also one have to let them take a photocopy of ID when making a new account - for same reason.....

Foreign currency exchange is free at my bank (not sure about the rest actually). I can understand about the cheque charge now you mention it though. Couple of weeks ago they tried to get rid of them completely here, then the public freaked out, so they went back on it. They still don't tend to accept cheques in shops anymore though.

Also, screw it. Is there anyone else who really wants this game but can't afford it? As a reward for putting up my off topic banking rubbish, I'll gift a copy. I need to be sure it's your type of game though. Last thing I want to do is gift a copy to someone who's only interested because it's free ;)

I'm not especially interested in this one either, but I'm impressed with the generosity around here. Great community at GOG.
I'm assuming since no answered me, no one has played both this game and ROTK, and for those that don't what ROTK means it's 'Romance of the Three Kingdoms'

medijoke: I'd really like to play it, because I love RTS's and tabletop style gaming, but alas, no paycheck until tomorrow.

And I'm a gladiator.
Someone still needs to hook this guy up. Any takers?

When this all started with Gremmi, he offered to get me something another time. I told him to just keep an eye out for someone in his spot in the future, and pay it forward. I'm sure everyone else who's been doing this today feels the same way.
