So heinous are the crimes of witches that they even exceed the sins and the fall of the bad Angels; and if this is true as to their guilt, how should it not also be true of their punishments in hell? -- "Hammer of the Witches", Henricus Institoris, Anno Domini 1486

Inquisitor, the dark medieval story of witchcraft prosecution that looks and feels like a product of the golden age of PC RPGs, is now available on GOG.com for only $14.99.

The world stands on the brink of collapse, and you, a member of the Holy Inquisition and a witch hunter, are the only force that can protect the faith, fight the heresy, and solve the conflict fueled by hellish forces. As one of three main characters you will delve into the gloomy world full of atrocious crimes and powerful enemies, and try to unravel the monstrous conspiracy that threatens the Realm. Soon, the burning funeral pyres will light your way and the screams of tortured heretics will let your enemies know that the fearless Inquisitor is here to investigate, judge, and punish.

Inquisitor, a game that's been developed and polished over the course of 10 years, tosses you into a large, open gameworld and a non-linear gameplay, which contains over 1,5 million words in its dialogs, side texts and descriptions. This story-driven action RPG will present you with hundreds of quests, items, spells, robust player statistics, and skill sets. You'll be following a gritty, mature, and captivating story that dares to go deep into one of the darkest chapters in the history of humankind. All this, and more, packed in the form of an RPG true to the isometric roots of classic PC gaming.

Unleash God's wrath on the heads of the heinous heretics as the Inquisitor, for only $14.99!

Mivas: Update: Daemonica was developed by RA Images and released by Cinemax. Inquisitor seems to be developed completely under Cinemax.
And to make it even more transparent, RA Images joined Cinemax after releasing Daemonica and together with former Wooden Dragon members they developed Numen: Contest of Heroes and were also working on The Legends of Daemonica that is currently on hold though...
Thanks, Kovi. Wow, so much changed. I lose track of Czech developer's scene after Illusion Softworks was bought by Take 2 and Future Games probably sold rights of their IP to Cranberry Production (i.e. long time ago).

... it looks interesting, but playing as a torturer is really not something I'm comfortable with.

towerbooks3192: Is it more diablo hack n slash or more baldur's gate?

How close is it to divine divinity?
It's more DD than Diablo or BG.

Mivas: The game feels like Diablo, so I'll pass this time.
Sacrilege!

Kovi: The Legends of Daemonica that is currently on hold though...
So they might make a modern Daemonica later on? Hopefully, the first game was great and I hope it arrives here sometime.

for those who have played this, is it better to play the easy version like some of the reviews say, also how hard is the thief class compared to the other two ?

Thief is ranged, so it depends ... If you encounter a powerful, meele enemy who's fast enough, you're fucked. Otherwise, you run around, wait until you're far enough, shoot, rinse and repeat, and you keep luring enemies one by one. It gets better when you aquire a companion and level him up a bit so he can take a punch or two.

I would say that it is better to play on easy at first. And I don't think that the thief class is harder than the other two, all of them just play differently.

At any rate: Difficulty levels differ in the amount of XP gained (the higher difficulty level, the fewer XP), in the toughness of monsters (the higher difficulty, the tougher enemies), or in the quality of magic items (the higher difficulty, the higher probability of looting a more powerful item). Generally speaking, the higher difficulty, the slower character development but the stronger items you get (taken from the Czech forum).

thanks for reply's going to try normal with a thief character
It's interesting, after playing for a bit, the game seems to take an interesting approach to NPC dialogues, it isn't so much based on choices as much as rewarding careful reading, a bit like a puzzle game, it pays to carefully read everything they say (guess it makes sense seeing as Inquisitors are investigators too).

Combat isn't too flash, it isn't as good as Infinity Engine but it's similar. The 2D graphics are great though.

Romiras: Wait a moment. You say this is a game from Daemonica creators??? Is this 100%??? Is there a prooflink???
avatar
Kovi: Actually, both games are from different teams working within Cinemax.
Oh boy, thy revelation came too late
Already bought Inquisitor for I couldn't wait...

At least music composer was on Daemonica
Here's one for him and one for the RA Images

Hope the game is worth my money...
