A cyberpunk thriller of man and metal.

Bioforge, the classic post-human action game with 3D characters, atmospheric pre-rendered locations and memorable story, is now available on GOG.com for only $5.99.

Pain. I feel pain. Feel? No. I only register its presence. That metallic taste in my mouth. What is it? Chrome and nitrogen coolant. How did I know that? Need to open eyes. My eyes! What happened to my vision? Why does everything look so sharp and artificial? Oh god! I don't feel my breath. Why don't I breathe? My hands! My body! It's metal! It's frickin' metal! What the hell happened? Where am I? Oh, god... Who... am I? Fear. I think I should feel fear.

Bioforge is a futuristic techno-thriller full of strange cybernetic creatures, ominous corridors, and terrifying mysteries, produced by the creator of the Ultima saga--Richard Garriot himself! You are Lex, a man unwillingly transformed into a cyborg by a dangerous sect of post-human cultists. Deprived of your memories and identity you'll need to navigate your way through a off-world base challenging your wits with puzzles and testing your skills in many action sequences, in a gameplay bearing a strong resemblance to the classic Alone in the Dark series. Can you escape from the clutches of insane fanatics, fight your way through the many horrors of your prison, and salvage whatever scraps of your memories and your humanity you might find?

Wake up to a nightmare of flesh, chrome, and oblivion and discover the horrible secrets of the Bioforge, for only 5.99!

Roman5: I'm actually expecting something great to be announced/released today, since GOG seems to be making a big deal about it
Yeah, but the cynical old codgers (coc?) on here keep saying that it's overhyped. :P

Hopefully there will be some stuff everyone can consider great. Truth is, as "everyone" knows, I'm mostly just interested in the older games here, so while I'll respect information on new games, it probably won't excite me.

(Like with the last confernce, I'll probably end up asking for the "play-by-play"/summary of the thing. :P)

I'm waiting for some cheesy jokes or scenes/reinactments from the special event, those are the best parts
Memories, memories...
I remember completing this game back in the day, and really enjoying it and its weird/gloomy scifi setting.
And then looking at the screenshots I'm starting to remember how large, and how complex it was, I've forgotten all the puzzle details :p
So maybe I'll pick it up later, part out of nostalgia, part to have another try at it and see if I haven't lost my wits and patience over the years :D
For me, the release of this game is better than the announcement they will do. Knowing GOGs tendency to hype things ...
Just thought I'd throw out some gameplay videos for those interested. (Certainly not too hard to find, of course.)

Holy Crap! I never expected to see this game again. I still have my copy on my shelf. Great release!
Wish listed. Very nice release.
FINALLY!!!
If anybody happens to read this message, I have a quick query. I stumbled across old-games.com and noticed they have Bioforge ("abandonware" 'd I guess) at 31.8 megs. GOG's listing here is 101 megs. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but DOSBox only takes up about 5 megs, and the extras aren't included in that amount. Anybody know the reason for the difference?
It's probably lacking voice or music.
and/or cinematics

I tried an abandonware version recently (abandonia) and that version lacked music/voice. Not sure about cinematics.

But if you are going to replay a game this old, you might as well have the full thing, right? :)

Interesting question: now that this game is on sale here, does it mean all these abandonware websites would need to remove it?

Yes, and the respectable ones do that. Often, they will actually replace the download with a link to GOG. But it's an honour thing, not really a duty.
Actually, my CD version is around 155 MB (not counting PDF files and reader) with 55MB of sound and 62 of cinematics. Not sure why the GOG version would be 44MB less.

Yes, they should and most usually do.

Probably because of better compression
