Have you ever been trapped in a nightmare?

Amnesia: The Dark Descent, a gripping first-person perspective horror story full of mystery, darkness, and demons lurking in the shadows inducing a constant sense of dread, is available 75% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 only for the first 48 hours, to get your DRM-free copy!

Thousands of pages have been written on the anatomy of fear. It's one of the most basic emotions shaping the human psyche and dictating our actions. But how many of us actually know fear? Not the tingling sensation that something's wrong and you should be worried, but actual terror that's caused by constant, lethal, and very real, yet unfamiliar threat. This is a game that, according to many, comes as close to inducing that state, as possible for a computer game. Praised for its gripping atmosphere, perfect pacing, and involving gameplay, it's one of the most prominent--in not the most prominent--modern achievements in terror fiction.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent puts you in a situation with no escape and the only thing you can do is to push forward, deeper into the nightmare that's becoming more morbid and terrifying by the minute. You will find yourself exploring a half-ruined castle, that witnessed many acts of madness and inhumane cruelty. Deprived of all memories, hunted by spawns of evil, forced to behold sights that shatter your sanity, you will venture into the darkness with no real hope of ever emerging victorious. Mixing a fascinating story, terrifying setting, and well-executed design, this title deserves a place in every horror fan collection.

Are you ready to inject your mind with an excess dose of poisonous terrors? Empty your bladder, switch off the lights, put on your headphones, and throw yourself head-first into Amnesia: The Dark Descent, for only $4.99 on GOG.com. The 75% discount offer lasts until Saturday, July 27, at 9:59AM GMT.
Damn you GOG! Yet again you bring the discounts / releases of things I want when I have no money! You shall be hearing from my fleet of moths armed with pocket lint about this!

Damnit.
Will try the demo I guess. But will still buy this. Can be played later on another machine.

charbon: Do you know if those can be played with the GOG version ? I don't see why they couldn't but I'd like to be sure.
Sorry, just saw your post - that's what happens when one gets multiple replies but only one notification.

Unfortunately, I don't - I got the game directly from the devs more than a couple of years ago.
I have noticed though that there are warnings about the Desura version regarding some of the mods.

Since there seems to be some interest in mods for Amnesia and since GOG doesn't object mods, maybe a blue can shed some light?
Hello, do you hear us GOG?

GOG, could do a mod spotlight for Amnesia even, they have covered heavily modded games before.

HypersomniacLive: I haven't played that many really and none of the post 2011 ones.

White Night, Followed By Death (Chapter One), The Attic (Chapter 1) and The Machine were good experiences, but this stuff is highly subjective.

I'd like to play the Memento one at some point - it sounds like inspired by the movie which I enjoyed a lot.
I'll make sure to play them soon... Hands resist him looks interesting (maybe because I like the urban legend about that painting), but it's not done yet...
Thanks for recommendations!

An awesome and unexpected game release. Thank you, GOG, for my very first Insta-Buy.

I missed out big-time on the Humble Indie Bundle V. I hope that GOG will eventually receive some of the other headliners from that bundle (Limbo, Bastion, Braid, etc.), and perhaps even form an alliance with HB (as they have with IndieGameStand).

I also especially enjoyed Frictional Games' Penumbra: Black Plague, and hope that makes it to gog.com as well.

Finally, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. A game I found after searching for games similar to Amnesia, which proceeded to become my favourite game of all time. Please check it out. :)
About time GOG, this game is amazing!
Though I never finished the game because I get too scared... :P

Haha, at least I completed the demo stage, the water monster stage :D /flex.

Crosmando: I always buy GOG versions of games if I own it elsewhere, since I like to have all my games (mostly) in the same place. Also I like to support this site.

timppu: Well, that's nice dedication. :) I don't necessarily do that, e.g. I'm not buying American Conquest, Post Mortem, Cossacks or the potential Vampire Bloodlines here, as I have them from DotEmu already.

So do the other versions where this game has been sold over the last two years include the DLC by default? HiB pages seem to be worthless explaining what the game contains. The HiB link for "Amnesia: The Dark Descent" just points to the developer homepages.
Games I bought on DotEmu I bought again on GOG. I have very little free space on C:\ most of my space is on my D: where my games install to. DotEmu installers have to extract to a temp location on C:\ before they can install, so the larger games simply can't be installed onto my system. I've also found a few times their install quality isn't great, dead links etc for manuals put on start menu etc.
GOG do a much better job with their installer so I'll stick with GOG and GOGify anything I have from DotEmu.
Great game. Time to double dip I think.

That's a great and very welcomed idea.
Wow.. Its great to see this here and that release price is formidable. Honestly if I did not have this already on Desura, Steam AND HIB, I would jump all over this. Unfortunately it leaves this as a "library builder" purchase that will have to wait.

Question though, does the availability of this open the door for other Frictional games to be released as well such as Penumbra and potential future titles like Machine for pigs? Or is that just wishful thinking?
