My respect for Daedalic never ceases to increase. :-/

Well, that's another way to get a few games removed from my wishlist.

Potzato: Business wise it's a good move. It has some of the appeal of a small exclusivity and it doesn't sound like someone who played the initial release is targeted to buy it.

To be fair, Guacamalee doesn't have unresolved big bugs afaik, and you shouldn't expect people to deliver additional content for free, but when they do take it as a really nice gesture (I don't know if this is your issue).
I could say that for the most part with the exception of PS3 to PS4 owners.

I wouldn't expect this to be a free upgrade but's kind of flat out pulling a Capcom. They even joke by adding "Super Turbo Championship Edition" because they know exactly what they're trying to do.

..what were you waiting for? :P
Anyway, this is similar to what they did with a new beginning. Theyr just trying to spread the word of the game and raise some cash to help finance what theyr currently working on. I dont have a problem with it, and i dont feel compelled to have to buy it again. But people who have never bought it raging, is just silly.
I think Daedalic knows they are not doing good with this, at least I cannot remember an announcement on their facebook page about this new version and they normally announce every little bit there.
I'm pretty much out of the loop on this, but a selfish question: What does this mean for me, who has the game here on GOG? Is it the older version? Will it be automatically updated?

will have to wait and see on that. If it gets the same treatment as steam then there'll be an upgrade fee. Wouldnt be too surprised if goggers got it for free. But obviously, either way you'll still have access to the old game.

Unhappily nothing new, see Kataury and King's Bounty Warriors of the North, is a buggy game, and if you like to fix the bugs, your need to buy the Ice & Fire addon.
I don't mind paying to "upgrade" to a newer version, I've never even played this game yet but I like Daedalic games I have played.
I will honor Daedalic's greed with simply ignoring them from now on and not buying any more of their games.
I fear they are in really big financial trouble and now they try to make some extra money from their old games (splitting of the Edna & Harvey bundle, Special Edition for The Whispered World). But I can't understand how they are so blind that they can't see that they make their situation worse and worse with everyone of their latest dick moves. Angry customers are not very likely to buy another one of your products.

I dont see why customers should be angry. People who already bought the games are unaffected. Daedalic is just trying to keep aggressive and do what they can to improve their financial situation.. im sure they spent a ton of money on blackguards and i dont think it sold hugely. I think for the most part, those who are angry about it are looking for reasons to be angry.

To date I haven't yet bought anything from Daedalic, and now they're firmly on my list of developers to avoid. A bit of a pity- I was thinking of picking up Blackguards once it went on sale, but with so many other games out there it's just not worth it to pick things up from developers who pull this kind of shit.

I'm sorry but I can't agree with you. And I'm definitely not looking for a reason to be angry - you can check previous discussions about Daedalic, I was trying to excuse them and understand their situation but this is the last straw. And I think I have very good reasons to be concerned:

1) The game is currently broken, there are many bugs, some of them only annoying but others - game breaking. The official response from Daedalic is: please download save game files that will allow you to skip those problematic moments. Don't you think that they should fix their game first and only after that add new content and increase the price? It's a matter of principles! But no, they have already removed this game from sale so most probably they won't support it any further so there are only two possibilities:
a) The special edition will be fixed which means that those you already have the game have to pay for a patch
b) The special edition will not be fixed so they will continue to sell a broken game. But the price will be higher. And sadly, we can't even exclude this possibility

2) The price for the game was 10$, now it will be 20$. Which basically means that they are asking 10$ for audio commentary, new tutorial and achievements. Those who already have the base game can get it for 5$. But frankly, even 5$ is way too much for this. That's a rip-off. Sure, you may argue that since I already have the game I'm unaffected. Technically true, my money is safe but it's not about money at all. It's about their image. I simply don't want to buy any of their games because I can't be sure that they won't do something similar again. I don't want to support people who try to rip-off their old and new customers. Even though my money is safe - it's a matter of principles. If that was their first shitty move I would say "shit happens, we all make some mistakes". But it's not the first nor second. Nor third actually. Enough is enough.

So yeah, that's it. I wouldn't say that I'm angry though. I just don't believe them. At all. I do feel sorry that they have financial problems, when I first heard about it I even bought one of their games at full price to support them. But now I don't want any of their games because I don't trust them. I don't think it is the last time that they are doing something incredibly stupid. What will be next? Extra fee to see the ending? Impossible? Half a year ago I would say so, now I'm not that sure. Most probably it won't be so extreme but I'm rather certain that something like that will happen again. So why should bother? Why should I take the risk? There are plenty other games after all.
Is this why the game was pulled from here?

If so, another GOOD FOR YOU gog.

the whispered world is broken? Is this specific to the gog version? I've only played the disc version of the game and i didnt experience any bugs at all. Not one.
Price opinions are completely subjective. To me, it is a full game, its worth $20 if youve never bought it before, period. I will of course continue to buy their games, because what matters most to me is: the games. I couldnt care less about whether theyr selling commentary for $5. And saying that this would somehow lead to them doing things like charging to see an ending, is a complete logical fallacy.
