OmegaX: IMO it was overkill. My suspension of disbelief shattered to a million pieces when they showed Shepard about to reenter the planet's atmosphere with nothing but his armor. I don't care how good those kinetic barriers are, there shouldn't have been anything left to revive but ashes. Shepard dying worked as a plot device but the death could have been made less extreme.
Overkill? I don't think that describes well ME2's opening. It's like saying nuclear bomb to cure cancer is an overkill. That was just idiotic story writing and it was present throughout the whole game, only to be topped by the end boss.

Story wise bioware has gone from decent/enjoyable plots to hamfisted/unbearable nowdays. I don't expect anything to change on that department. Characters in ME3 (I haven't checked but I'm almost willing to bet) will be more clichéd, more retarded and more blunt than the previous iteration. Cheap thrills and cheesy tears...

While I think that ME2 was a huge deal better than ME1 in gameplay (the first one has awful gameplay), it's exactly the opposite in the story and atmosphere part. Enough to make you stop caring. Same with Dragon Age. The first was a quite good execution of the same ol', same ol'. The second... well, it makes you wonder if they even pretend to try.

I was willing to overlook the bad writing for fun gameplay, given the experience of ME2, but now that I know that they can sink to the low depths of DA2's writing, as well as the EA's DLC lechery and Origin malware and... you've got another thing coming. Or think... I don't know. But it's certainly "another".
meh. when it drops to 25 dollars all dlc inclusive or 10 bucks core game ill get it just so i can finish it. not gonna bother with MP as I do not do MP almost at all.

SimonG: Not exactly "flawless" but it didn't shatter my "suspension of disbelieve".

I think they needed something like this to move the plot forward in time without the PC/Shepard. Why wouldn't you just keep your old crew/ship otherwise?

And it was good for marketing. ;-P

ummm you do know as long as your entry speed isn't high it's possible to re-enter without frying right?
For example when getting rid of a it you have to slow a Geosynchronous down so it has speed against the the atmospheres motion to generate the friction to destroy it..
A human in a space suit if travelling at nothing but vertical speed towards a planet can survive http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Excelsior this was a jump from over 31km up he hit over 980km/h and was falling for over 4 minutes before opening his chute. There are ongoing plans to do it from 80km...

Ok, I didn't know that but I remember the Normandy exploding so the shock wave should have hit Shepard and propelled him with some force. Also, when he was approaching the nearby planet the cinematic showed something similar to flames forming around his body, the void of space had already absorved all the air from this suit because the helmet was fractured so was most likely dead before entering the atmosphere and he definitely didn't have any parachute anyway.

SimonG: The only think that I expect from games is entertainment, and the Mass Effect series certainly delivers (as almost all Bioware titles do).
I want a sci-fi game to illustrate once and for all what the Japanese have been telling us for years: that humans will screw anything, including bug-eyed tentacle monsters, not just very humanoid, effeminate-looking, bipedal aliens.

I really think if we met an alien species they'd probably be horrified by us.

Since I have not even begun ME2 (even though I've picked up all the DLC as it went on half off sale) I think I'm with ya on this one. ME isn't a horrid game, it's probably one of the better AAA games to come out in years, I just am terrified by such time commitments and it takes me a really long time to tear off the shrink wrap and pop them in the XBox 360. (Note: I know ME was short, played it already.)

Roman5: Over 200 Dollars of DLC Already confirmed and the game isn't even out yet

There is no hope left for Mass Effect 3
wow, what an opinionated and exaggerated statement. for God's sake, those are just some action figures.
It's amazing how many times Roman5 has stated he has no hope left for Mass Effect 3.

One could certainly argue it's an obsession of his.
My hopes in mass effect 3 dropped a bit when it was mentioned it would be more newbie friendly. Mass effect 2 couldnt be more newbie friendly so is it you press forward and the computer does the rest. HHmmm

I do hope they bring back a lot more exploration as going to the likes of the citadal in ME2 and being restricted to something like 3 levels when in ME1 you had a lot more to explore of it.

I am stil getting Me3 on release as i want to finish of the saga but then i think i will not be jumping up and down awaiting the next bioware game. After the way ME2 and DA2 went i feel like rpg is an afterthought for an action based game with a bit of a story.
Hm. I'll just be waiting for a complete edition that contains ME2+3 (only played the first, which was great) and all DLC. All of the recent news about ME3 (and DA2 earlier), Origin for ME3 and the Cerberus Network / Bioware store DLC stuff does not make me want to buy more of the ME franchise. It makes me not care about it.

I recommend you Railworks 3: Train Simulator 2012 . It's " cheaper " . :p

Cheaper in quotation marks means it's actually more expensive, right? Then he might as well stick with ME3 - it'll have plenty of railworks too, I'm certain.

Kinda they added 2 extra play modes apparently, Story where combat is easier and Action where conversations etc play like cut scenes with a pre selected neutral conversation path...

Suprisingly each floor of the citadel in ME2 was about the same size as an area of it in ME1...

Think of it more as trying to get the MW crowd to play a game with more depth...

Base game is much less but it has about $4000 of DLC...
