The first title from the just announced agreement with Funbox Media is not a game for kids and will definitely make you get goose pimples all over.

Realms of the Haunting is, first and foremost, a horror game, but contains an interesting mix of different genres. It's a first-person perspective game with quite a bit of shooting involved, but is also an adventure game and has some RPG elements. Finally, there are many FMV sequences on top of it all. This sounds overwhelming and believe us Realms of the Haunting is one of those few games that do a good job at blending different genres.

The story is by far the strongest quality of Realms of the Haunting - it's solid and keeps you hooked from the beginning to the very end. The presentation, despite the old visuals, does a great job at keeping the suspense up and give you a good scare when required. The free-look camera and freedom of movement result in a strong connection between you and the game.
You're not too scared to play this game... Are you?

GameRager: Still, how many Gog games MARKED as compatible with a certain OS have failed to live up to that promise? A handful?
avatar
bansama: Enough, given the state of GOG's support, to not want to have to deal with another one.

beliar: I don't see any significant differences between the two...
avatar
bansama: Except for the whole Arcade difficulty thing and the fact that save games from one version won't work with the other...
this game runs on Dosbox, so it's 100% compatible with everything for sure
KK.... So if im correct... We get PSI Ops one day? :o

Pool shark 2? (Not as good as Pool paradise but it will do)
Blowout? (Loved it on ps2)

and moar!?
This game managed to slip by my attention until now, but it does look rather interesting. I'm going to add it to my wishlist, and perhaps pick it up soon.

I do have a question though for those who have played it. What kind of save feature does it have? Does it have a quick save, or is it more of a check point system? Also, can you skip any of the cutscenes? (This would be more useful if it uses a check point system, so you don't need to watch them more than once).
Oh my GOG! What a release!
I have this game on CD (twice even) and i'm about to buy it again on here just so i don't have to get the disc's out every time i want to enjoy this classic horror game. Now if only I could get my hands on the original footage before it was compressed >.>

You can save anytime you want during 3D gameplay (10 slots). There even is a Quicksave/Quickload button. All cutscenes can be skipped with Esc, but thanks to the save system this is rarely necessary.

Plus the cut scenes are well worth watching a couple of them even have small hints in them for certain puzzles

costanet: Ty very much for you hint, I'll check immediately. Maybe it's time for gog. com to build in the installer a widescreen option , no one today plays in 4:3.
Speak for yourself, buddy.
For those interested someone on Twitter has confirmed that there is no in-game key remapping and no difficulty selection, etc., making this the EU version of the game.

I see your point, but it is a fact that the number of netbook, notebook, laptop owners is increasing daily and even desktop owners have LCD widescreen monitors. I think an option like that is very useful for those, like me, who don't want (or arent' able to) spend too much time in tweaking with the option menu or config files.
Ah, Realms of the Haunting! I remember reading about it on Home of the Underdogs several years ago and wishing I had any (legal, relatively inexpensive) way of obtaining a copy of the game. Also, this is one of the games which reminds me of how much I appreciate some lovingly amateurish FMV...
Oh wow. Instant.

In my opinion the FMV is actually pretty professionally done. Of course you see the nonexistent budget at every corner, but the acting and direction is IMHO pretty good, especially so for videogame standards.

so is the us version of the game better?
