The first title from the just announced agreement with Funbox Media is not a game for kids and will definitely make you get goose pimples all over.

Realms of the Haunting is, first and foremost, a horror game, but contains an interesting mix of different genres. It's a first-person perspective game with quite a bit of shooting involved, but is also an adventure game and has some RPG elements. Finally, there are many FMV sequences on top of it all. This sounds overwhelming and believe us Realms of the Haunting is one of those few games that do a good job at blending different genres.

The story is by far the strongest quality of Realms of the Haunting - it's solid and keeps you hooked from the beginning to the very end. The presentation, despite the old visuals, does a great job at keeping the suspense up and give you a good scare when required. The free-look camera and freedom of movement result in a strong connection between you and the game.
You're not too scared to play this game... Are you?
While it's definitely a game worth playing, I'm going to wait until others buy it and confirm there are no issues with Win 7 64 bit, etc., before I take the plunge...
Wonder if more will be coming from Interplay? Bullfrog? SSI? Come on EA!
Hires available?:)
As far as i remember, this game had some VESA trouble with DOSBox.
Also, can anyone confirm whether GOG are selling the US or EU version of the game?
Holy cow!

One of the greatest games ever!

thank you, GOG!!

GameRager: 1. Actually you're right....still the horror elements are there. :)

2. Lol, I LOVE horror with gore in it, although I also like subtle suspenseful horror as well. It depends on my mood I guess.
It's been a long time so my memory on the game is a little foggy, at least twelve years scarily enough, god that's a horrifying thought in itself... Where has my youth gone!!!! :O

I don't mind gore as long as it's appropriate, when it starts to become nothing more than fanservice or to shock the audience is when I start switching off personally. I guess I'm just a horror-snob. ;)

EDIT: Just to give you an idea how long it's been, I completely forgot about the child noises at certain parts, damn yes it did have horror in it. :D

Gamerlord: Then Doom would be horror.

GameRager: Lol.......but it IS.....you know......horror. Just not "scare you out of your seat" horror. If the settings could be improved with more gore via today's newer technologies and special FX i'm sure it'd be pretty horrific.
Realms of the Haunting is more like "Alone in the Dark meets Call of Cthulhu". It's more "Mystery/Horror" than "Undead and Demon hordes Horror". There's a fair amount of puzzle-solving, but there's some intense scenes where, if you don't act quickly, you'll die easily. Obviously, there's combat, but ammunition is scarce, except for a few self-charging, and a couple melee weapons.

Waxworks is pretty huge in the over the top gore department. Great game but man was it difficult. :P I don't think I've ever successfully beat even one of the exhibits in all my years of playing the game.

GameRager: Gog's page says it's 7 -64 bit compatible. I'm willing to bet it'll run fine....ish.
Yeah, not trusting that. GOG's page also said Interstate '76 works on XP. But you can see in the forums for yourself that that's stretching the truth a tad.

I don't see any significant differences between the two...

GameRager: Is it based on the movie?
No it's basically it's own original story. Mostly set in the same universe as the old Elvira games (also ridiculously hard :P). They're RPG\Adventure games, very B-movie in how over the top they were. Basically the kind of games where you need to be prepared to die a lot til you get the hang of them.

It would be awesome if Vincent Price did anything with the game but he makes everything better anyway...
YES, at last no more annoying disc swapping on this great game!

GameRager: Still, how many Gog games MARKED as compatible with a certain OS have failed to live up to that promise? A handful?
Enough, given the state of GOG's support, to not want to have to deal with another one.

Except for the whole Arcade difficulty thing and the fact that save games from one version won't work with the other...
Oh WOW! This is so amazing. I consider this one of the best games of all time. The story and world in this game are so fantastic. This is really a labour of love and you feel it all the way through.

There has never before or since been a game that has mixed adventure and FPS elements so brilliantly (that is not to say it is a particularly good FPS, so don't go expecting something like Undying). And then they put full motion video on top of it and it all just works so well together to create one of the most creative games of all time.

Fantastic release, GOG team!
