The first title from the just announced agreement with Funbox Media is not a game for kids and will definitely make you get goose pimples all over.

Realms of the Haunting is, first and foremost, a horror game, but contains an interesting mix of different genres. It's a first-person perspective game with quite a bit of shooting involved, but is also an adventure game and has some RPG elements. Finally, there are many FMV sequences on top of it all. This sounds overwhelming and believe us Realms of the Haunting is one of those few games that do a good job at blending different genres.

The story is by far the strongest quality of Realms of the Haunting - it's solid and keeps you hooked from the beginning to the very end. The presentation, despite the old visuals, does a great job at keeping the suspense up and give you a good scare when required. The free-look camera and freedom of movement result in a strong connection between you and the game.
You're not too scared to play this game... Are you?
FUCK YES. :DDDDDDDDDDDDDD

No more disc swapping for me! Oh thank you so much GOG! :3
Yay that more people get to experience RotH. :)
Boo that I have the Directors Cut on disc(s). :(
Ah I really wanted to play this... but these early game engines give me motion sickness :(. Wouldn't mind a remake!

TheEnigmaticT: Not that Funbox isn't totally awesome.
Nice save.
Sweet merciful crap! I was just trying to figure out how to get ahold of this game, and then GOG goes ahead and releases it.

Not the first time that's happened, either. They must be spying on me... :-o
This game is awesome but if anyone has already bought it, is it possible to know how it works with widescreen?
Meh, these aren't my kinds of games. Not that I don't like horror, I just don't play video games for it, have yet to find one that does it right.
This is a fantastic addition to the GOG catalogue!

ROTH is one of my all-time favourite games, and one of the few first-person games to ever warrant the "horror" label, IMHO.

The UK release had the control-scheme from hell, mind, but fortunately that was improved for the subsequent US release (which I presume is what we have here).

Merchito: Man, you really have an exciting job. Are you aware of that? :P
In truth, I do have a pretty exciting job. :D

StingingVelvet: I've actually never heard of this one. I'm looking forward to figuring out what it is.
Kikoskia LP'd it a few years ago, actually.
Realms of the Haunting???!!!!!

SQUEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

I loved this bastard! Totally not a horror except for the opening bit, but a demented journey through a mansion full of demons and merged with psychic stuff. Very unique!

GameRager: Lol...isn't demonic stuff horror? :\

:P

:D :D :D

BTW, I especially like the blurb on Gog's page.....about the source of creation and such protected by the seven seals(of the apocalypse I assume?).
Then Doom would be horror.

I'd say modern fantasy with horror elements. It's kinda hard to pin down really, as you can have demons in a fantasy setting without it being horror, and the game wasn't so much scary as it was strange (which is a plus in my book).

GameRager: Lol.......but it IS.....you know......horror. Just not "scare you out of your seat" horror. If the settings could be improved with more gore via today's newer technologies and special FX i'm sure it'd be pretty horrific.
Nah, gore isn't good horror in my books, and there never really was much if any in RotH (though the branding of the hands was kinda worrying, hmm extra crispy smell!). The horror that was in the game was more the subtle kind, with the writings branded into the walls...

I remember the ooooold review in gaming magazine where the reviewer was completely excited... I have a feeling this might get into the "most twisted" GOGmix of mine very soon ;)
