hedwards: Well, I guess I'm not going to be able to use this. It'll probably have an obnoxious FB tie in where you have to have a FB account to make full use of it.

As if there aren't enough bullshit sites and shit forcing people to use FB if they want to use the site.

fr33kSh0w2012: It will FORCE you to use that C.I.A./F.B.I./N.S.A. spying Program to play any type of game on it You watch I'm always RIGHT with these types of predictions so all the Child Molesters, Rapists, serial Murderers and other Nutjobs can hunt you down and use you as a human pinata.

Hedwards I can't agree More I got my Samsung Galaxy SIII it was a Prick to set up! My Samsung g4 Galaxy SIII I finally got working tried to sign in to google play Grrrrrr.. It created 15 new ACCOUNTS with sixty different Passwords to places I don't even know existed and I deleted every one I set it up JUST so I could Download mTaxi I got mTaxi finally I did that because the taxi serivices call center is shit where I live 4 1/2 Hours for a TAXI! so Now I can check how LONG it will take
My Samsung S4 active is what put that latter bit into my mind. Without my doing anything, it wanted 3 different accounts to be linked. The Google link I get, it's an android and people generally link those to google, but the AT&T and Samsung accounts were a bit much. Then it offered, Twitter, FB, Firefox and a ton of other ones.

It's not that I necessarily mind sharing my information, it's that big data has a lot more on us all than we realize, I tend to be rather private, and they still know tons about me.
I understand the general resentment, it's like finding out that the homeless beggar in front of your local supermarket is actually a rich dude secretly living in a villa.
if i had 2 billion id use it to buy BloodBowl lisence and finally do proper moddeble computer version BloodBowl (BB2 is under developement, but as its Cyanide, i am bit pessimistic).

...if that didnt take all of the 2billion, id do the same for BattleFleet Gothic and Epic Armageddon.
It all makes perfect sense now . You see, Zukerzberg plans to take over the world :http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2591138/Drones-satellites-lasers-Mark-Zuckerberg-outlines-future-internet-Facebook.html

I'd encourage all gogers to hire deadpool since he could be the only only man who has what it takes to get the job done.

Oh goody, now people can be in commercials. It would be so awesome playing an FPS: "I see you're about to assault this military stronghold. But first, how about taking this Prius for a test-drive!?"
Oh, the bullshitting game around Occulus VR in the last days.

Investors of Facebook have to understand that this is IMPORTANT and WORTH it, so Luckey and Zuckerberg had to throw around lines like 'future of everything', 'it will let you meet your doctor face to face from your couch!' Woah, right?

And then comes Notch. Investors don't know shit about hardware or software really, but they listen to people with wads of cash. And he's a man with a big software project and a little bit of money. He says No. Now, that's a serious issue. Maybe he's a voice of the indies?

Damage control!

Poor Luckey had to explain that Notch doesn't 'count':
"Every developer we are working with has had a very positive reaction. My inbox is flooded by email. A huge number of developers. Some people are upset. But the vast majority who are actually software developers see why this is a good thing. Notch is an exception to the rule. After he sees everything we are able to do, I hope he will change his mind,"
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2014-03-26-oculus-signed-facebook-deal-in-just-3-days

He probably didn't even care:
"He had the Rift for a year and had not even tried the Minecraft mod (which is really good), much less done any exploration work. I think Notch is a super cool guy, but it is really easy to 'cancel' a project that was never started as an out."

Oh, the PR wars. They never change <3
I have to say, I'm really surprised how everyone's so pissed off about it. We already know that Sony and Valve are developing their own virtual reality devices, and if this proves viable, many more companies will follow suit. You'll be more than able to get a Facebook-free virtual reality helmet, people, don't panic. Sure, you'll have to wait until the concept is proven to be something more than a mere fad like it was in the '90's, but that's by no means a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination.
I think VR has just as much chance of being nothing but a gimmick which eventually dies out or stays very niche. Whenever I hear anyone saying any piece of hardware is "teh future!" I have to roll my eyes, it's either fanboy-ism or it's advertising. I'm skeptical of VR ever becoming a mainstream thing because I don't think you'll ever get normies to wear those headsets to play games. There's something inherently disorienting about motion control with a headset which our eyes are just not meant for.

I think augmented reality has some real benefits to it, but I think wearing them that often permanently is a bad idea. Even more so knowing the person behind it has not sense of ethics to speak of.

I know when I was in China, it would have been great to have had some sort of augmented reality to help me pick up the writing system more efficiently.

Pure VR OTOH, is fairly limited in application. My sense of imagination is good enough that I don't see much point in making things even more immersive, and I can only imagine what using something like this too frequently would do to a person's eyes.
FB is famed for nicking info` & changing the rules & it seems Carmack doesn`t seemed too bothered about any of that.

As for AR, I`d not heard of that before today & this clip at 17:30 actually piqued my interest, something VR has never managed to do.

Mapping some games to your room sounds a lot more interesting then VR, but will have to see where things lead...

Hell, I used to feel like a fool even using these things: http://retrobrothers.hubpages.com/hub/Tomy-3D-Thundering-Turbo but they were fun :)
" However, Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe just told an audience at TechCrunch Disrupt about one lofty possibility for the pair: building a massively multiplayer experience for one billion simultaneous users. "This is going to be an MMO where we want to put a billion people in VR," he told attendees."

Yeah, and they will all play Zynga games!
A VR world wide game of Bejeweled, where each one of you gets to be the virtual jewel awaiting to move/explode. For an additional fee you can advance your move ;)

And to advance the game you're able to virtually poke 1000 or your closest friends with your Rift!
