TheMadSpin: I own a Mac, you don't. I'm clearly happier than you. You're worked up about a demographic you aren't a part of that doesn't have the market power to do anything to you and that likely makes up a minority of the people that visit this forum.
However, both groups that visit hear clearly enjoy classic games--meaning that it's not very self serving for any of them to belittle or condescend to one another.
I wish I could be as angry that you don't like Macs as you are that I don't care for Windows PCs. I also wish that GoG made games for Mac so that I didn't ever have to use Windows at all. However, I gladly boot into Windows when I want to play old games because it's not that hard (compared to tilling a field or building log cabins after a long malaria filled trip across the dusty U.S. circa 1800).
I'm an adult with a job and most of a masters degree. I imagine that I could still be a complete idiot (as some suggest--via how easily I've been duped into thinking my Mac actually works the way I think it does). However, I'd prefer to think that some of my education stuck (especially since I now teach at the college level as well) and that I haven't been astronomically stupid in owning and enjoying my Mac.
I also like that my Mac will run anything that's thrown at it because there are only a few configurations to consider at a time (one of the reasons people think software works better on a Mac is that it works without having to go out and upgrade every 2 months). I know that closed system seems stifling if you enjoy the power you get from upgrading ram, motherboard, videocards etc every couple of months (I used to share that need), but I've got work to do, so I prefer to enjoy a level of consistency.
They cap things so that products depreciate in value slower (I just got 1,000 bucks for a 3 year old mac laptop via ebay--something I could never do with a PC Laptop). They're more likely to run software out of the box because of a closed platform (the same reason I game on consoles most of the time now by the way).
Yes, as I said, all of this could be an elaborate trick and I could be stupid. If so, save your money, avoid college (especially the one where I teach) and continue complaining about a very tiny counter culture.
Self deprecation aside: I'm a pretty smart guy, a pretty successful guy and I own both Windows and Mac computers. Even with both options I prefer my Mac. I get a lot done--and other than this long and ultimately useless post (which I typed on my Mac) I tend to be incredibly productive. Maybe I'm one of the lucky few Mac users who didn't buy one because he's stupid--and I've just lucked out that it does everything it promised it would do with no crashing, viruses or need for upgrades. Maybe if I just bought a 4,000 dollar Alienware computer I'd see what I'm missing.
But--maybe we could just both be happy for one another instead and you can stop making judgement statements about a group of people not catering to your claims or assertions. This isn't high school debate--you don't suddenly become right because someone didn't flow an argument during the second round. You just remain bitter that someone else has found joy and comfort doing something that you don't understand.
In ten years you'll be against gay marriage instead of Macs, but for now maybe you could enjoy a few years with a little less anger. At least about this. Love and kisses from my Mac to you.

HA HA, I like how you make plenty of assumptions about me. In 15 years I'll probably be retired. So, I guess I can consider myself successful too. And no, I'm not against gay marriage or Macs (is there something into that on your part?). I know that Apple makes some pretty good hardware. But their attitude towards consumers causes me not to purchase their products. That and the fact I won't pay a premium price for anything (why buy an Audi or Lexus when I can buy the VW or Toyota version for thousands less). And Apple's lock down of OSX guarantees there are no economy versions of Macs. I could easily buy a Mac and dual boot it for gaming. But I won't. Consumer treatment is the same reason why I like GOG and dis-like Steam.
Your smugness towards me is really funny (which is a Mac users sterotype). So I guess in your own way, you've shown me that Apple users do have a sense of humor. And really, you're happier than me? I have a wife, two sons, own my own home and have a great job. While my life is far from perfect (who's is), I'm pretty secure in who I am and in what i do.
Oh, for the love of God...

Hmm, now you wanna compare gods?
Whic one is better? Which one is cheaper?

The cheapest ones are Buddhists but they're nowhere near as elegant as Christians. But I personally prefer atheism, the running costs are much lower.

Now hold on a sec, there's no need to bring religion into this! If we get started on that then this may never end and there will be blood... oh yes, there will be...

ooh, oooh, I got the answer for that one!
The is no such thing as a God, therefore it must be a trick question! Do I get an A+? :)

Apple tried that in the mid-'90s with Mac OS.

What it doesn't mention is that those clone Macs had all kinds of stability problems--even more than Mac OS (Classic) had already.

BTW Mac users, if you're not using it already, you should look into Boxer. It's a great Mac-friendly wrapper for DOSBox.

For GOG games, I expand the Windows .exe in Parallels, grab the game files and copy 'em back over.

I know a lot of the users here don't know me yet, but you have to understand that I make a lot of wild claims because I think it's a lot funnier than the truth.
How would an educated human being with any sense of responsibility really compare gay marriage with mac vs. pc? I'd have to be a moron--and an insensitive one at that.
I was just riffing. I think the argument is pointless, however I do think that lively discussion pushes the intellect and gives us all something to do that, while pointless, is far better than thinking about all the stuff we can't do to help those in Haiti or the helpless nature of real problems.
It's all in good fun. I love this community and we all have a vested interest in one another's joy. That means that, as a community, we are all accidental friends and allies. You bust the chops of the people you hang out with and lately I hang out here--in a sense.
If you see my name then you can bet that half of what I post will offer some intellectual idea that I buy and the other half will just be me cracking jokes or spouting hyperbole because that's what I do for a living.
On another note, I'm thrilled because of Telltale games recent announcement to support Macs. They released Tales from Monkey Island today and posted a little note to fans:

Seems like an appropriate thing to mention.

You bet I'm using Boxer. The best part is, since it basically just skins Finder, I can put anything on those shelves (not only DOS games.)
To extract GOG games, I made a simple application with Platypus (http://www.sveinbjorn.org/platypus) that runs the installer and spits the files onto my desktop.

Wow, nice to see someone besides me uses Boxer.
Some things don't work quite the way you want them to, but everything is simple to install and play with it. Boxer combined with GOG makes for a fun weekend.
