Rebellious JC Denton or death-dealing Mr 47? What kind of hero will you be today?

GOG.com is proud to announce that Square Enix is the newest heavyweight addition to our ever-growing GOG.com catalog of great games. SquareEnix is one of the biggest publishers of the modern gaming world with almost 30-years of experience and famous releases for every single existing gaming system.

Deus: Ex Game of the Year Edition and Hitman: Codename 47 are the first titles we’re releasing from Square Enix, and they're available today for $9.99 and $5.99 respectively. Both games were originally released by Eidos in 2000, but not a single drop of greatness has been lost since then. Deus Ex is a magnificent blend of remarkable storytelling, RPG customization, and action-packed shooting. With all GOG.com’s heart we recommend Deus Ex for $9.99 as one of the most captivating and rewarding games ever. EVER! Hitman, a demanding stealth/action/planning game, created a now-iconic bald assassin Mr 47. With a vague name and a vague past, Agent 47 at least has a clear goal: eliminate the target at all costs. For you, the cost of Hitman: Codename 47 is $5.99.

There are a few more heroes from SquareEnix, that deserve a special treatment from GOG.com, and we will be announcing them in coming weeks. Today, it’s time to shave your head and buy an AMT Hardballer or wear sunglasses at night and save the world from the Illuminati.

You decide what kind of hero you want to be.

Fred_DM: i'm not trying to get involved, and my stance towards Steam is certainly favourable, but i'd just like to point out that you can't accuse others with different opinions of fanboyism while you yourself act as if the problems you have with Steam are universal. they are not.

in all likelihood, the vast majority of Steam users never have any problems. that does not mean there are no problems, but when people act as if Steam was faulty and didn't work those who have no problems with Steam feel it is only fair to defend it. that alone does not equal fanboyism. somebody who has no problems with Steam, and says so, isn't automatically a fanboy. what, should they lie and say Steam sucks if it doesn't?
Hahaha. I will admit, I went a bit overboard and got a little antagonistic at the end there. But that's basically what I was trying to get through to jamyskis. Every system has it's flaws and every computer configuration will result in a different mishmash of what does and doesn't work.

I've had nothing but good Steam experiences. I have no friends (locally or internationally) who have had ongoing problems with the service. I started to play the "shitty system" card purely based on the fact that that's all I kept hearing back from jamyskis, was that "Not everybody has the ideal conditions to use steam!", and as such, felt it was worth pointing out that a lot of those "Non ideal conditions" are fixable things, and it really just comes down to how much time and money you want to invest in your hobby.

I'm a Steam fan, but hardly a fanboy. I don't at all dismiss other platforms because "They're not as good as steam!" or any such notion. I love all systems, as every single one helps me enjoy games in new and interesting ways. If I'm a Steam fanboy, then I'm also a GoG fanboy, an Microsoft fanboy, a Nintendo fanboy and a Sony fanboy! It's all good!

I just think that GoG and Steam are best when they're not competing for my dollars. When I see a game that steam got to 5 years ago that works just fine, I wonder if GoG couldn't have better spent their time bringing us any of the HUNDREDS of amazing games that Steam HASN'T gone out and put up. And vice versa. I don't wanna see Ultima VII on Steam. It's already here and in good condition!

Now, let's all put the angry words away, and unite under the one true banner. "Everybody hates Origin" ;)

BoxOfSnoo: If this really includes Eidos, are we possibly looking at Richard Burns Rally?

Kabuto: Hitman and Deus Ex = Eidos. Of course it means Eidos!

Don't hold your breath for games featuring officially licensed material though.
Well, yeah, of course... but I mean *really really*. I should probably say Warthog/SCi.

We did get CMR2k5 and TOCA3 here, at least for a little while.

I'm not saying that they're universal - I'm saying that they are far from seldom, which I think is amply demonstrated by a quick Google search, and that Steam users for the most part have since learned to "deal with them".

It's an accepted given nowadays that major titles are difficult to activate and run on release day due to the servers being overloaded. It's a given that Steam will have severe problems during sales periods. It's a given that Steam support universally sucks (even Hammer Legion arguments don't deny this - they only make excuses as to why it's so bad).

Just because people choose to accept these to a certain extent doesn't make the problem go away, nor does it make them any less frustrating.

The problems with forced updates is not universal - that much I accept. But for those of us who don't have the luxury of a fast connection, they are are a universal problem and they are severely annoying.
> Please release the Thief games. That is all.

This.

(Got a netbook. Thief I and II run nicely but I need my external CD drive to play. Can't play III, because I don't have an external DVD drive. DaemonTools *almost* works but not quite. Anything to let me play the games legitimately without any hassle with discs would be awesome.)
Neither Deus Ex(have it but won't mind buying it on sale for the extras/have on shelf) or Hitman(didn't like 2 but that was years will give the series another shot eventually) are day one buys for me but there are certainly other games in SE's catalog that will be!

Fair dos. Even if I have heard that their support service is much better, I've had more than enough problems with activating retail titles under Origin to make me pull my hair out.

The way that other user replied to jamyskis makes it near trolling/fanboyism......in how he was seemingly nearly unwilling to listen to anything Jamyskis had to say with anything more as a reply than belittling him and his circumstances......stuff like "deal with it", "improve your sucky internet connection", etc.

Jamyskis btw never said his problems with steam were universal but just that many have experienced them......while the other poster made it look like his problems were nothing to worry about & downplayed them in a semi-rude fashion.

GeneticFreak: Oh well, I didn't know about the illegal part. Here's hoping for Commandos and Thief then.

GOG has had them for years since Eidos is no longer the publisher for them.
Except last title Commandos: Strike Force. I hope it will release soon.

There's a reason why I purposely omitted saying Strike Force isn't on there. It's a horrible game.

Lethargic pace, bad graphics, poor control and no consequences if your spotted unlike the real Commandos games. You would certainly be wasting $5.99 on it.
Excellent addition to the store!

Not terribly excited for the first games (Great games, but already have them)

Waiting for Tomb Raider and the Legacy of Kain games (if is possible) and curious about the pc versions of final fantasy

I think this is a large reason for why I get so unstuck with you. The experiences you relay here are as though from some kind of alternate mirror dimension to my own. I can't actually think of any specific instances I've seen or heard about regarding bad customer service with Steam, and yet, I can't go onto Reddit for a single day without seeing some variation of "OH MY GOD! LOOK AT THIS EXAMPLE OF ORIGIN HAVING THE WORST FREAKING CUSTOMER SERVICE IN THE WORLD!"

It's just kinda perplexing and makes me feel awkward taking your stances on faith. I do understand that there are bugs here and there in the system. But they're few, far between, and generally, if you actively pursue support from steam they tend to be pretty good about helping you out.

I've even gotten them to refund games I've bought under the pretense that "I ended up kind of hating this game and really don't want it anymore." Granted though, I may have just landed really good support admin's who were ok with bending rules (or it may just be policy? I haven't really looked that far into it).

I guess where I'm going with all of this is that I don't see bugs and issues as a deal breaker because I've come to accept them as a fact of life. If a game doesn't work, I go onto a forum, and I find the solution and fix it. I do the same little dance regardless of GoG or Steam or Station (If you wanna go waaaaaaaay back to a system that ACTUALLY sucked ;) )

Love the dehumanization thing you got going there ahahaha. Good job with that one.

I will admit that my final comment was somewhat aggressive and trollish. I've pointed out in my previous post to Fred_DM what was the deal there. As I've stated though, I love all systems, and I'm probing jamyskis here because I feel like he's spreading distaste for a good system based on his own personal (regrettably) negative experiences, as though they're just a fact of the system, and his tone registers to me as though he is warding people off from using it. I'm probing and pushing because I feel like he's yet to really make a good solid argument against it besides "I can't make it work right".

I don't even know what "Hammer Legion" is ahaha. I assumed it was some weird Warhammer 40k reference or something to Space Marines.
Very nice! Get to play maybe Total Overdose one day again.
If I didn't already got DX from I'd probably buy it here right now. I might give Hitman a try when I went through all the games I bought from GoG earlier XD

funny, i used to think the same thing until i realisted that "Hammer Legion Member" is what the Steam-powered User Forums word-filter "fanboy" to... the more you know!
