Ages ago before WoW, Blizzard was doing a game called Warcraft Adventures, which was a point & click game set in the Warcraft universe. The game never was released, but it apparently was quite a far along, as there's a lenghty beta version playthrough in Youtube.

Now that is/was a good looking game, which could have been pretty fun, if it had ever come out. This made me think, what other game projects you know about that were relative far along before they got canned from a reason or another. Please do provide video/pictures if possible.
Starcraft: Ghost

I remember a big Game Informer article on the game and it sounded freaking awesome but it wasn't meant to be. :(

Fallout 3 aka Project Van Buren. Here's a tech demo (BE CAREFUL, it likes to freeze forcing you to reset) and some design docs:

What I've read though a lot of ideas from it were incorporated in New Vegas, so not all was lost in that case. The Van Buren engine does look nice though and it could have been a great game.

Which makes this even more painful to read.
My favourite part from the docs - Reservation - wasn't touched by New Vegas (which is, still, a very enjoyable game even with gamebryo engine running it - but more of a sequel to Van Buren than re-implementation of it).
Vulcan Fury could have turned out epic. The older Interplay ST adventure games are pretty nice.

Looks pretty simuilar to Van Buren if you ask me :) I'd love to spend some sleepless nights with this :)

Just so you know, Troika was going to buy the Fallout license (with the backing of a publisher) when Interplay were selling it, it would be a sequel by the original developers (Tim Cain, Boyarsky, Anderson) but the asking price was apparently too high. Then Bethesda swooped in and got it :(

I see what you mean, that does feature some horrible framerate issues.
Gotham by Gaslight (game)
