If you preordered Botanicula on GOG.com or have been paying attention to this quirky adventure game, you very probably heard all of the noise around the Humble Botanicula Debut and how some users were left rather unhappy about paying $8.99 for a preorder of the game while people who bought it on day one could pay whatever they wanted for it and they got more goodies than the GOG.com preorder provided.

This left an unsurprisingly sour taste in some gamers’ mouths, and we were just as surprised by the launch of the Humble Botanicula Debut as anyone else was. As soon as we saw the bundle, we reached out to the guys at Amanita about providing our users with something in return for their preorders; we got them to agree to give us a number of goodies from the bundle, and we’re giving you and every other user who bought the game before 12:00 GMT on the 20th of April will receive a few things. Everyone who bought Botanicula before we published this news will automatically be getting Machinarium to your shelf on Monday, and we’ll be emailing all of those purchasers with links where they can download the full soundtrack and a special artbook of Botanicula designs and character sketches.

Finally, we wanted to give you guys something that you couldn’t get in the Humble Bundle to make sure that you didn’t feel like you got a raw deal. To that end, courtesy of our fine friends at CDP RED, we’re happy to let you know that we’re also giving you and everyone else who already bought Botanicula a free copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut! This game will also be on your shelf on Monday, so look for it then.

At GOG.com, we’ll never knowingly disappoint you, and while this preorder mishap may have made you a little unhappy, we hope that you enjoy Botanicula--it’s a fantastic game and many of us here at the office are fans--and, if you’d like to say “thanks!” to our pals at CDP RED, check out The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition, available right now at your favorite DRM-free game store, GOG.com.

Have a great weekend!

Thank you very much Gog/amanita \o/

Stormseye: I see on the Humble Bundle's main contributors page that a user named GOGcom is #4 of the top donators. If that's official GOG (and I tend to think it is), that's awesome. You guys rock!
TET has confirmed that the @GOGcom paying $300 is, indeed, them.
Not GOG's fault. If anything it's Aminata's fault. Don't repeat the same mistake Aminata.
I bow to all of the GOG.COM team and the one who thought of this. I bought The Witcher 2 after release and got no need of this, but I admire your excellent PR and attention to your customers.

Feel like sirs, GOG.COM
Much as other members have said already, this is why I love GoG so much and endeavor to give them as much of my gaming dollar as possible. This once again demonstrates a commitment to the gaming community to function as so much more than a retail site. GoG shows loyalty and integrity that is unmatched. Thank you GoG, again you raise the bar!

What a shame I already have Machinarium and The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut! Still the full soundtrack and art-book are really appreciated. At least GOG are doing their best to resolve the Botanicula issue created by Amanita. Have a fantastic day and keep supporting GOG (The Good Ole Guys)
See, this is EXACTLY why I always recommend GOG to people. There is NO REASON they needed to do this. Any other game website wouldn't have mentioned it but GOG always does everything they can to MAKE SURE their fans don't get a raw deal and always come away happy and satisfied. If Steam had this game for preorder, they wouldn't have mentioned this, but GOG always goes above and beyond every time.

Game publishers and developers out there take note, THIS is how to get loyal customers. THIS is how to get people to WANT to buy PC games and NOT pirate them. This website is a prime example of how to build a great relationship between company and customer. I will always shop here for games as long as this site is up. I visit it every day. Keep up the great work guys. :D
I didn't order the game, but feel compelled to comment anyway. I applaud the good faith gesture by GOG. This level of customer service is virtually unheard of these days. I'm in awe at the repeated displays of generosity by GOG (and CDP Red?). Thanks for paying attention, for going to bat on our behalf, and a sincere thanks just for being GOG!
-Edit-
Oh wait, Witcher 1, not 2. Was worried you guys might have lost it, there. Nevermind then.

That is a really nice gesture which you should recieve high praise for. This is why i think you are one of the best companies out there.
As usual, GOG takes care of their customers. Well done. Better be careful, or gamers might start EXPECTING good service. Heaven knows what would happen then. :)
This just made me wish I had pre-ordered Botanicula. Damn that was awesome fan service. I'm disappointed I missed out on this, but at the same time, it made me like gog.com even more. Although I am glad I was able to get the movie from the bundle.

Mjauv: Hehe, oh the irony. I just bought The Witcher a couple of days ago

jaylib80: It's like rain on your wedding day.

I like the irony of offering a dark, violent game full of heaving breasts for what happened with a cutesy game about woodland creatures.
They probably assumed that for those who are grumpy because their newly purchased game is available in a campaign to raise money for charity, The Witcher will be more to their taste.
It is good to see the issue settled in a noble way so natural to GOG team members, including that neat link to appology tweet through contribution to Humble Bundle.

On more technical note, do I see it right that Botanicula is still sold here with soundtrack DEMO only?

You see I didn't pre-order as it was clearly advertised month ago on dev's pages that their full version with OST will be available @ $10 (via several channels, but not mentioning a word about HB release indeed!). So it was anticipated on release date GOG will include full OST to their ten-dollars package as well.

Now I like Humble people (got their first three bundles), but already have all their Botanicula bundle goodies and would prefer to purchase the game here on GOG no matter I didn't 'save' $1 by pre-order. But guys, than the package has to contain full OST of course.

After all the mess and not-very-witty appology from Amanita Design you could get it from them as a token of good will not only to fix pre-orders but also to maintain future sales of the game.

Agreed. I'm happy with my purchase(s) of Botanicula and I'd be willing to give Amanita the benefit od the doubt and forgive them this clumsy move if it weren't for them still withholding the full soundtrack from regular GOG users. Getting a bonus soundtrack in the package is one among GOG's unique selling points, something quite a few customers expect to see here, and especially with a game that draws heavily from the music like Botanicula. That they officially just offer a demo soundtrack to GOG is either a sign of disrespect or ignorance towards their business partner in my eyes. I bet a lot of customers would even pay a little more than $10 for getting the full package, but why pay more for getting less?

The current solution helps to calm the waves with the people who pre-ordered and it gets GOG a lot of brownie points in customer relation but it won't help the future sales of Botanicula here on GOG, another collateral damage caused by Amanita juggling too many balls at once.
