If you preordered Botanicula on GOG.com or have been paying attention to this quirky adventure game, you very probably heard all of the noise around the Humble Botanicula Debut and how some users were left rather unhappy about paying $8.99 for a preorder of the game while people who bought it on day one could pay whatever they wanted for it and they got more goodies than the GOG.com preorder provided.

This left an unsurprisingly sour taste in some gamers’ mouths, and we were just as surprised by the launch of the Humble Botanicula Debut as anyone else was. As soon as we saw the bundle, we reached out to the guys at Amanita about providing our users with something in return for their preorders; we got them to agree to give us a number of goodies from the bundle, and we’re giving you and every other user who bought the game before 12:00 GMT on the 20th of April will receive a few things. Everyone who bought Botanicula before we published this news will automatically be getting Machinarium to your shelf on Monday, and we’ll be emailing all of those purchasers with links where they can download the full soundtrack and a special artbook of Botanicula designs and character sketches.

Finally, we wanted to give you guys something that you couldn’t get in the Humble Bundle to make sure that you didn’t feel like you got a raw deal. To that end, courtesy of our fine friends at CDP RED, we’re happy to let you know that we’re also giving you and everyone else who already bought Botanicula a free copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut! This game will also be on your shelf on Monday, so look for it then.

At GOG.com, we’ll never knowingly disappoint you, and while this preorder mishap may have made you a little unhappy, we hope that you enjoy Botanicula--it’s a fantastic game and many of us here at the office are fans--and, if you’d like to say “thanks!” to our pals at CDP RED, check out The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition, available right now at your favorite DRM-free game store, GOG.com.

Have a great weekend!

--The GOG.com Team
Heh, brought TW1 just days ago on sale, but I don't care though, it's still an excellent show of goodwill and customer satisfaction. I got an excellent game plus more goodies then I ever thought possible.

Though the lost money from this must really be eating at you guys. You have plenty of people that think you rock, so I think that'll heal the wounds. :)

Stay classy GoG.
Nice one.
Always nice ones.
While not affected at all by this. GOG, how wonderful you guys are to be looking after your customers for a problem that isn't your fault and that you had no way of predicting. And so, while I've no interest in Botanicula, and am slightly boycotting it, I'll be picking up a game from your weekend sale to say thankyou for being you.

What an absolute PR disaster for Amanita and HiB though. While I'm sure it wasn't done deliberately, it does leave a slight bad taste in the mouth which both companies will have to work hard to overcome in future.

There's a reason Indie Bundles have not featured new full games up until now. Seeing as HiB invented the bundle, you'd think they'd have spotted the problem, or have they just been overrun by the marketing men, as evidenced by the lacklustre recent bundles.

Wow. When I was just about ready to move on from this fiasco, GOG comes in and proves once again that they really care about their customers. This is how you keep you keep people loyal.
OMG! I didnt buy botanicula but this is just truly awesome! GOG you are amazing, gonna go on a shopping spree on here now! :3 thank you so much, you guys are just the best. If every company was like you guys the world would be a better place.

jorlin: I was really surprised that Botanicula made it's debut on hib.
Sure, this has happened before, but with alpha-software.
I will still buy the bundle for Linux playability.
This will make me reconsider buying indie games on GOG as long as GOG sticks to their narrow platform support.

deadlyhabit: You do realize that this is an adobe air game and adobe has pretty much dropped native linux support for air some versions ago right? If anything GOG is protecting itself from a bunch of support problems.
Thanks for the warning, much appreciated :-)
Well, Machinarium(already have it from an older HIB) works on linux without a hitch. Adobe softs are riddled with security holes though and their Flash plugin for Linux64 is a massive trainwreck, even in the so-called "stable" versions. I hope that Flash/ Air games port well to HTML5, so that I can also enjoy them on the new mobile platform Boot to Gecko(B2G). Then again most security holes are found in JavaScript engines, which is pretty much what B2G is made up from, HTML5 combined with JS. Arrgh! The life of a security conscious Open Source Zealot is not an easy one ;-)
Enough of my ramblings. I hope that The Witcher Enh. ed. as consolation for the awkward marketing of Amanita design is giftfable? I know one of my friends who still haven't got The Witcher and I 'd love to present him with a gift of this great game.

Fucking hell. GOG, you guys and girls are amazing.

This is top costumer service! Wow. Very very impressive.
I really appreciate what you did just now. If everyone was thinking the way GOG is thinking at its fans, world would be much more beautiful place to live.
I thought it quite classy of GOG to also make a top Humble Bundle purchase amidst all of this. And the situation has been so well-handled that even though I don't have a pre-order this time around, I know that if I do pre-order a new game in the future from GOG, they're going to make sure I don't find a better value elsewhere.

I do want to say, though, that those who are down on the Humble Bundle or who have been donating a penny should really reconsider their position, because the Humble Bundles are great for indie gaming and have really brought a lot of attention to some great titles and DRM-free gaming at large while helping charity at the same time.
This doesn't affect me in the slightest but:

Way to go GOG. Thank you for being the great company you are, for being to go the extra mile and be able to do something like this.
Thank you very much for this. I already own Machinarium and The Witcher but I appreciate the way you make us happy.
It's not like I needed any other reason to support GOG as a company, but this is so generous of them.

Other company screws up, GOG takes care of it.

Good guy GOG.

GGGOG.
I didn't purchase the game botanicula but for GOG to do what they have done makes them a class act.I applaud you and your efforts. As a result of your goodwill when I get paid I will be making some purchases from your site as you are a company that I now desire to support.
While I do applaud this compensation by GOG.com, my question is this: since it seems obvious Amanita failed to notify you of their intentions of parterning with Humble Bundle, Inc. to create the Humble Botanicula Debut, will you be discussing this matter with Amanita in terms of legality and/or ethics? I know if I were in GOG's position, I would definitely consider suing them for purposeful undermining of our agreement, and I would tell Amanita that we do not appreciate being undercut like this. Of course, given as I, too, am a fan of the Humble Bundles, I wouldn't be as harsh on them as I would otherwise while still reminding them of certain legal elements regarding such actions.

I think there is no need of doing this. But I do believe we will see the other titles from Amanita here soon + a good value drop. This is the easiest way to deal with things. At least this is my opinion.
