No one knows. It's a newbie game though, so nothing too complex. Probably a cop and possibly some lesser power roles.

Whether or not the roles of the game, beyond Mafia and Townie, are public knowledge, is up to the moderator. I did ask Basilizek about that, and he told me that GOG has never had a game where the roles were public knowledge.

For town there can be:
-a cop (at night he can check if a person is town or mafia)
-a doctor (he protects a person and if that person would be killed at night then that person will stay alive instead).
-a vigilante (he can kill somebody at night just as mafia does except he is town)

For mafia:
-a godfather (cop will see him as innocent)

For both sides:

-a roleblocker (whoever a roleblocker decides to block that person will not perform his night action)
-a role cop (just as cop but instead of seeing alignment [town/mafia] he sees a person role)

Taken from a wiki and from what I have seen earlier.
But it should be noted that these are only some common roles and they MIGHT appear. Also there is a lot of other roles.

A little clarification: #7, another newbie game, used one of six setups known in advance (these), picked randomly.

This game, however, does not use any of the setups you can find on the wiki (to my knowledge, that is) and no, its particular setup is not public knowledge.

I was playing thinking there was only Mafia and townies... And I still think so.
And if it is indeed the case, I do believe Mafia are strongly advantaged, especially for a newbie game.

I also believe mafia has already won the game, as the people who I'm convincing to vote against nmillar are dying on me :/.

Uh, wouldn't it make more sense to believe that the game is balanced by power roles on the town side then it being unbalanced with no power roles? I've also never seen a mafia game with no power roles (though I've obviously not seen a massive amount of games).\

It's also incredibly silly to say the mafia have won the game already. There's 3 of them and 7 of us. If you can't convince everyone to vote for nmillar (I still don't feel your case is particularly strong), maybe you should move on while watching nmillar. Keep an eye out for anything you can use in your case, but just repeatedly pushing with a somewhat flimsy case will just serve to cast suspicion on you.

This is exactly why I believe mafia has already won. You have to convince 6/7 townies to vote against a person who is mafia, good luck with that (Ah and half of whom aren't even aware of what's happening in-game since they never participate...). This is if you happen to be right.

And we townies don't have a single power, whatsoever...At least I don't and Gameon didn't so what are the odds others do ?

Well, if gameon, Planeshaper and you, if you are truthful, don't have any powers, then odds that others have is actually pretty high. ;-)

Also, your defeatism is not helping at all. If you are townie you have to try, even in almost hopeless situations, and this certainly isn't hopeless situation. If you are scum do whatever you want. :-)

I believe there won't be other roles than the ones on matti's linked list and even there I would exclude most "less common" ones.

@aylien. Yes, you can discuss your abilities but everything you say is giving info to scum that you are dangerous and they should get rid of you. It is almost never wise to claim doctor unless you are forced to. Cop could claim if he's got scum result on someone, otherwise he should stay quiet. Roleblocker should usually claim if he blocked someone and there was no nightkill. Other power roles follow similar pattern. Each time you should consider whether the benefit outweights the cost.

No, but for serious, this is my first game of forum mafia, as I'm sure my posts have made painfully clear.
I don't think I have the strategery down yet to fake being a newb townie with a role in order to misguide you all.

It seems that most of the others are in agreement that generally, games of forum mafia have townies with roles. So either you didn't know that, or you're trying to play dumb so as to get townies (such as myself) to go "but wait, I have a role! we do have roles!"

Entirely possible, definitely. However, since he's basically already claimed power role I'd say that if he doesn't get nightkilled tonight (barring a more obvious target raising its head) then it is pretty likely that he's mafia, so I'd recommend waiting.

Oh, come on, the mafia took out somebody who had a vote on me. That's a little too obvious, isn't it?

However, I'm not so sure now that N0x0ss is mafia now; he's been desperate to lynch me most of the game, so if he is mafia then taking out somebody who had voted for me doesn't make a lot of sense.

I may have to hold my hands up and admit I got that one wrong ...

Remember there are 3 mafias. They don't necessarily see eye to eye, and some may be willing to take the risk of scarifying their colleague.
Could also be a counter-effect. It would be one way to divert suspicion from me and stay in game long enough.

You'd better not asked yourself why did this guy die, but why didn't any of the others die in his stead ?
