Goddamnit, this actually WORKS!

Here's a way to get big downloads:

1) Get Free Download Manager (http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/)
2) Choose "Download using browser" and the FDM should pick up the download immediately (if you're using Chrome you may need to tweak FDM
3) Launch the download in FDM.
4) At some point, the download will probably stop, and start giving "Access denied" errors. At that point, go back to your GOG account, click "download using browser" again, but DON'T LAUNCH A NEW DOWNLOAD! Instead, just copy the download link you get from the new FDM window
5) Go to your old download in FDM, right-click and select "Download properties".
6) Replace the old link with the new one
7) Resume the download and it should continue where it left off.

Yes offcourse my dear pal nobody dies in the process :) there are too many ways to
download your games, Flashget is just a way, should work with mostly download
managers. The trick is just replace the old download link paused for a fresh new one
obtained from your control panel, replacing the old for the new link and start the download
and the manager will continue in the same point where stopped :).

That sounds really handy compared to somebody just bothering to fix the GoG Downloader.

How does the GOG download manager actually work? I'm having the same problem with Baldur's Gate timing out halfway through, and I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do to get the darn thing other than downloading it in my browser.

I always thought the downloader was an integral part of GOG experience, a really handy way to download big files without having to use browser or any other program. So I'm really surprised and disappointed they didn't figure out something was going to cause problems with the downloader when going from the so-called beta phase to the current disaster they call the new GOG. It took two years to get here, and I don't see many improvements.
I really appreciate the philosophy behind GOG's business model and I honestly think they did a huge favour to gamers everywhere when they launched GOG in this age of crazy and even more crazy DRM systems. But lately I've started to question their professionalism. The PR stunt made me lose a lot of the respect and trust I felt for GOG, and now the lack of ability in getting things fixed (things that worked perfectly well before) and restoring some normality to the site is not helping at all.Any news? I hope something is being done to fix this disaster. The forum eats posts (this is my second attempt today trying to post in this thread, the previous post disappeared), the downloader doesn't work, and choirs of fanbois all over the place are praising the situation.

I'd like to see something that works for a change. I've always thought GOG did a great favour to gamers all over the world by launching their DRM-free service and making good old games work again on new systems, but honestly this current disaster is not what I was expecting after two years in beta phase. It's like we went from beta to alpha.

Replacing the download link as suggested by Lhaddemor/Irmcba in FDM worked for me, but I'm sure other download managers could do the same. Thanks.

Are there any update for the downloader from the GOG team? Same days have passed but still nothing new on this front. Any dates for things to sort out?

Give them a week or so, they will fix it. They probably have to rewrite the whole program.

I'm not sure about FDM but Internet Download Manager locked me out of CNET, D2D and Steam so I got rid of it.

Gonna try FDM right now.

Yeah, I've been doing that with GetRight. Get's annoying, having to update the URL with every resume - those links expire very quickly it seems.

My internet can't download a 1.7 gig file without disconnecting.
Bring the downloader back quickly please.

All I know is, I REALLY need that downloader back up again, because I just bought a bunch of new games and I can't download them because they for some weird reason, freeze my browser once they reach a certain percentage =(

In the mean time, you are using a download manager, right?

Need the downloader back too. I can't download games via Firefox, they keep freezing at 99%.
