Here's the thing about this giveaway: not only won't you be able to choose your prize, you won't even know what it is in advance. Hell - *I* don't yet know what it is ! That's a part of the deal.
I won't tell you the rules of the giveaway, that much will be kept secret as well. Since you don't know what you're supposed to do, not mentioning HOW (and WHEN) precisely I am going to decide who won should not upset you all that much - maybe there's method to this madness, maybe it will be pure whim or randomness... Hell - who knows how MANY people will end up being winners in the end ?

There are just two more things I am going to say:
1* A suggestion: if the mysterious prize ends up disappointing you - regift.
2* A question: if you were to witness an interdimensional rift, a "portal to another world", that would only be open within a short timeframe and would not be likely to kill you (although - you never know with these things) but almost certainly would allow merely for a one-way trip... would you step through it ? Please justify your answer (even irrationally, if that's your take on the matter).

I would totally jump through that rift you don't see those kinds of rifts every day so hell why not, not like you get the chance to do such a thing every day but i suppose it also depends on what the rift looks like .

2) To answer your question, it depends on whether or not Kristy was with me. A) if she wasn't with me, then no. I could not face not seeing her again, regardless of what may be on the other side.

B) If she was with me, yes. The chance to explore a new world, see hopefully amazing things, be more useful than I am in this life, would be very tempting. Should we die, at least we would be together.

Now the perspective lol - these are my feelings. A question for me would be, could i persaude Kristy to take the chance, or if I saw her hesitate, would I even try ?

No, probably not. I guess my place is here, no matter how many morons, jerks, bastards, etc. I have to face everyday, I still think it beats facing the total uncertainty of the unknown the portal will bring. Who knows maybe on the other side there are actually way more arseholes than in this side? Until I am sure I do not think I'd jump the gun :-)

No, I would not step through it. I would want to, and the fact that I had not stepped through it would haunt me for the rest of my life (curiosity basically), but I would not do it, as I would not want to leave all the people I know behind, and I would probably not be happy in a strange world with no other people to be social with.

If I had a camera and/or some other instruments, I would try to record as much information about the portal as humanly possible though. If it would appear in my bedroom, I would plug my camera into the computer, throw the camera through the portal, and then take as many photos on the other side as possible. I would also throw in my microphone and record any sound. With a bit of luck, the information retrieved would come to use use to the scientific community (though I doubt they would actually believe me...)

Heck yeah I'd jump through. Why? Because it's there. :-) I'm going to die someday, so if I jump through and die, no biggie. If I don't, however, who knows what mind-blowing experiences would await.

I'm in. My answer to your question is no, because the grass is not always greener on the other side... The place on the other side of the portal could be 1000 times more hellish than this Earth. OR maybe on the other side, there is no oxygen, no water, no food, etc. I'm no red shirt.

woo thanks for the giveaway, im in. As for the portal.. i'd have to say i would not step through. Afterall, i could end up on a desert planet without any food. Or if i did end up somewhere with life, the foreign bacteria would likely make short work of me... or i'd quickly find myself as prey. You said stepping through the portal wouldnt kill you.. but whatevers waiting for you likely will.
Now, thats not to say i would ignore the portal... as it would be entirely fascinating to observe and study. But i wouldnt be in a particular rush to doom...

odd are good id jump through. though it depends on what can be seen on the otherside.

if it looks like there isnt an atmosphere, or a world that would be devoid of food+water, or theres a crystaline entity laying waste to other humanoids or some other sinister looking beings laying in wait, then i definitely would hold back from jumping.

if there looks to be a survivable atmosphere and technology abound and some non-threatening looking lifeforms id jump through. even if it ends up at best ill be a zoo exhibit, at worst dinner/dissected or first dissected then as dinner.

if its a blind jump id have to err on the side of caution, it could likely be a 1 foot hop to the center of a singularity and oblivion.

I'm in... but i dont know if i will jump or not.... if it is an good day i wiil not jump because i like to see my family and many things i have earned and others have still to live here. On a bad day what the hell!.. it cant be worse!.. :P

Sure, I'd go through the rift. Here's hoping the other side doesn't put me in the middle of something that'd kill me (immediate drop-off, hostiles waiting to murder the next thing to pop out of the mystery hole, etc). Besides, how many times do you get the chance to literally start a new life where there is no way anybody will know you. For better or worse, I think I would walk right through the rift.

1) I'll just mention that the only thing my GOG collection is really missing right now is To The Moon. Make of that what you will.

2) Honestly? No no no all of my no. To put it mildly, I'm not the adventurous type. I've no desire whatsoever to even go overseas for any reason. Between the paperwork, the jet lag and the explosive diarrhoea, I just think it's more trouble than its worth. Now, jumping through some sort of one way inter-dimensional rift? I think not. Though I would be willing to duct tape a camcorder to an RC car and send that through. If nothing else, I'm sure I could sell the footage for quite a pretty penny.
