IAmSinistar: All this sex talk is damaging y'alls short term memory. Mass Effect is in the first post. :)

Just remembered another game from the old DOS days - Romantic Encounters at the Dome.

While we're digging up the old stuff, the Infocom title Leather Goddesses of Phobos had some pretty good romantic content too.

Fever_Discordia: Oh yeah, duh!
Talk of text adventures reminds me of Soft Porn Adventrure, which was remande into Leisure Suit Larry and now I'm thinking that no-one has mentioned Larry Laffer yet but you'll probably point out that ts in the second post down or something :P
My 1st post mentioned it. Kind of. I typed LSL.

chezybezy: has nobody said Fable 3?!
not to mention it was the first game to ever include same sex r/s!
There were a pair of gypsies in Ultima VI (one male, one female), and either would sleep with an avatar of either gender.

D'OH I searched for 'Larry' and everything!
You also mentioned GTA:SA I was meaning to say 'Yeah, especially if you hunt down the 'Hot Coffee' patch!'
The Bioware method was so hokey, I hate it. They seem to recognize how silly and gamey it was though, interviews for the next game say it will happen more naturally. Witcher 2 did it well, felt like when it happened it happened naturally.

There was no sex but I liked how Jensen and his pilot got closer in Deus Ex: Human Revolution. That's the kind of thing I want to see more of.
Dragon's Dogma was amazingly inept at this.

You could romance anyone in that game. Anyone. The problem was how your romantic partner was determined, it was done through an affinity with a character, that affinity could be raised by doing quests or, worst of all, by talking. So a lot of players found out to their dismay that even though they were hoping to romance the queen, the character they had the most affinity with was, for example, the innkeeper, because they talked to him 10 times more than anyone else in the game, since resting is how you heal your character.

To pour salt in the wound, the game treats us to scene of your character and his love interest making love in front of campfire just before the credits. So depending how things end up, it could possibly mean that your character was either gay or that sex was non consensual.

Finally, in post-game your love interest leaves their regular job and opens a small shop in your house. So if it was indeed the innkeeper, have fun never changing classes again since he won't be doing that job anymore.

EDIT: I assumed by your examples you meant romance options, not a predetermined love story that is part of the plot.

If that is what you meant, then I enjoyed Valkyria Chronicles. If only because they didn't do the "will they won't they" thing and they were together before the end, and when the end did come they fast forwarded 5 years and showed them married and with a daughter. Most games aren't willing to commit that much to a love story and stop with the "ride into the sunset, will they get together now?".

Well...Capcom.
So far gaming and romance have been like oil and water. The 'games' that feature a passable attempt at romance are basically just interactive novels / QTE-heavy interactive movies. Or there are the proper games that have never had anything you can really call romance. Bioware have paid lip service to the idea, but that's it.

Ahahaha yeah the elementary school level of romance. Oh capcon you bunch of unromantic idiots.

Also regarding Valkyria Chronicle it made it more heart wrenching when one of them died in the battlefield....

Reever: I figured, but still had to do it. And now I know which girl you decided to go for :D

keeveek: I chose the blind chick for multiple reasons :P

If you don't have anything against manga-like visual novels, I really recommend you to try Katawa Shoujo - it's free!

After seeing the pics, I understand your "multiple reasons" :D
Thanks for the link, I'll give it a go in the future!

Well, the ones I remember, besides the already mentioned are:

KOTOR (KOTOR 2 was mentioned, not KOTOR 1)
Ultima VII (you could have sex with a wife in a specific town if you were male and the husband if you were female), of course that was just plain adultery and being "The Avatar" was not well seen amongst your companions.
King's Quest II
Quest For Glory IV and V (not really sure about V, tho)
Karateka (then again, that romance would be like Mario)
Wing Commander 2 and 3 (not really sure if 4)
Anachronox (there is a little romance in the story)
Fallout
Planescape: Torment

I think that's all I can remember now.

I might be wrong with a few of them, tho, since it's been over 10 years I played any of them.
Was it in Fallout 1 or 2 where you could get a shotgun wedding ?

Wrong; if you FIRST max out your companions (assuming maximum charisma), they'll be added in PAST the limit (if you get the shotgun wedding before hitting the limit, they do count towards the limit). Throw them in some power armor, and they make excellent pack-mules. If you want to avoid combat on the oil rig, as long as you and all of your followers are wearing some sort of power-armor, they'll think you're all enclave and leave you alone.

So the leeson is: Use your wife as a pack mule. Got it :)

I am replaying Dragon Age: Origins again, and I have to admit, I almost forgot how good the party banter is. Especially between Leliana and Morrigan. Especially especially if you flirt with both.

Apparently Morrigan does not share :D
