Some DRM points that will hopefully answer some of your questions and will clarify some misunderstandings about our DRM and SecuROM:
- You have 5 activations per machine on 3 separate PCs.
- The 3 machine activations can be concurrent, but you must have the disc in the drive to run the game
- Uninstalling the game “refunds” an activation. This process is called “revoke”, so as long as you complete proper uninstall you will be able to install the game an unlimited number of times on 3 systems.
- You can upgrade your computer as many time as you want (using our revoke system)
- Ubisoft is committed to the support of our games, and additional activations can be provided.
- Ubisoft is committed to the long term support of our games: you’ll always be able to play Far Cry 2.

I was going to get it for PS3 anyway.
I hate being a traitor to my PC (I started out as a PC gamer), but DRM is killing the format at the moment.

This is sad news. Now I won't buy it for PC and I'm not sure I want to buy it for console, as I've always had difficulty adjusting to using a joypad in a FPS.
But please, don't download the pirated version... it's bad mmmkay.

If you can't bear it (like me), you can buy it on Steam if you're american. If you're not, there are two options:
-You have an american friend, he can gift you the game
-You don't have an american friend, you don't play the game.
I won't buy it like I did with Far Cry (the first day!), but will wait for the undrm'd version like deathkitten said :)

Steam is coming off my PC as soon as I get through with the free episode of Sam & Max they offer, and I don't think I'll ever buy a game from them. I have major problems with any software that wants to load itself and access the Internet before my antivirus program loads. Also one that whines at me if I have my modem turned off, thus preventing it from going to the Net.

You know you can turn off Steam's autostart, right?
As for whining when you aren't on the internet, what do you expect for a digital delivery platform? It still works in offline mode.
Don't take me for a Steam fanboy - I much preferred the days of WON and remember the hell of switching to Steam, not to mention my inherent dislike of having one application controlling my games - but give credit where it's due; Steam isn't all bad.

Wasn't interested in this game too much, but I guess it figures. Clueless Ubisoft were one of the few last companies to drop Starforce after the backlash against it started. Now they are adopting the activation system despite the widespread critisism against it and the fact that it's completely useless... I wonder how many more potential buyers going to the torrents it'll take for these dimwitted executives to wake up.

Gnah, I was afraid this was going to happen .. but I think I will stick to the PC version, because of mouse & keyboard. Which makes me ask again why they just don't bring mouse and keyboard to the consoles.
(OT: I agree on steam with MinigunFiend, the current version of Steam is not that bad. Most of the time it even works how it's supposed to :)

Another game getting slammed through Amazon reviews, huh. Unlike Spore, though, Far Cry 2 actually seems to be better than mediocre. Oh well.

Sadly the Steam version also includes the extra DRM, much like Bioshock, Crysis Warhead, and STALKER Clear Skies before it.

Well, it's off my 'to buy' list now. I'm not a fan of FPS games, but this one looked intriguing and I was all set to go out and buy it. Chalk up another lost sale due to asinine and unacceptable DRM schemes.

Well one less game to buy...
means more money for gog.

I actually never bought Farcry 1, I pirated it a couple times and was very unimpressed with the gameplay. I am not interested in Farcry 2, but I can imagine that the announcement that it's DRM is the same as spore, will decrease sales anyway.

Probably more since this likely means boycott of UBI games in the near future. But if that's what they want that's up to them.

Curses. I really hoped they wouldn't pull the same idiotic move that EA did.
Well... time to wait till it hits the bargain bin. And I'll probably say to that there's going to be another petition that's probably going to be directed at Ubisoft to stop using DRM.
