Aliasalpha: How much is it? I'd definitely upgrade your GPU as much as you can afford to since its the bit that will show its age earliest.
avatar
prakaa: Quite expensive $2000ish, though I can't really do much since it's prebuilt and I can only really get prebuilt
2 grand? That sounds like an awful lot. Have a look at the prebuilt systems on PCCG: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1027_1029

WOw thanks a lot these are really good and quite cheap too. Have you bought from these guys? Also, are they easily modabble?

Wow i'm really excited about the GTX460 System 2. For 1.5 grad it's very good. Thanks a lot!

Just wondering, what's there in terms of cooling? I think that's fairly important, and it didn't really specify. Do you have any idea?

Yeah PCCG are a good company, good prices and customer service. Their PCs are built from quality gear (and are the same as if you'd built it yourself from parts, just that they do the assembly & installation work) they'd be very likely to change a part or 2 for you if, for example, you wanted a stronger power supply or more ram.

Thanks a lot

Turns out a good friend of mine assembled his computer and was planning to do some more from that very site. This might make it possible for me to build one; if not, i'll definitely go with those prebuilts from PCCG

Thankyou so much ALiasalpha, you have helped me so much, and helped me understand so much about hardware!

I remember my first attempt at it didn't go very well. That was nearly 20 years ago, and back then you could by computers which weren't completely compliant, meaning that the slot might be the correct one, but it would be in the wrong position so that you couldn't install 3rd party hardware. It took several trips back to the shop before anybody pointed that out.

And that was before the internet was widely available so there wasn't really any good way of getting information other than magazines or at the shop. Good times.

Compared to that this is a walk in the park, if the connector fits without forcing it, it's almost certainly the right slot and the main quibbles being power supply rating and type of RAM. The latter can be found on any credible memory manufacturer's web site.

Yeah I finally learnt about how everything is compatible

But the main problem is that you have to know a lot in terms of compatibility. I mean I figured out how to put in RAM and GPUs, connect HDDs and DVD drives, but I never knew how the motherboard comes with a backplate specifically made for it, and how there's ATX and mini ATX, in terms of mobo sizes, and your case has to be compatible with the corresponding one, and how choosing power is important because you have more space for upgrades, etc..

Aliasalpha we took your original plan and expanded it to a bit more in terms of price, but also in terms of future modifiability..

buckybit: [on hardware]

New Vegas works fine with low end PCs & even shared memory graphics (Laptops etc) - I tested it with a NVidia 6100 chip. If you have 1 GB memory & 2GHz single core CPU, everyone can play this game - prefered on 32bit OS.

(I am not defending the technical bugs & problems - far from it!)
Thank you, anwsered my question even before I asked it.
The official faqs state minimum of a 2ghz dual core processor, 2 gigs of RAM and geForce 6800 512mb video and that's a lot more than you needed for Fallout 3..

Back on topic... Info on the first 360 exclusive DLC (Which means we will get it later) has appeared it's called Dead Money and is not allowing you to continue your game. I think most of us will say meh and let the console boys enjoy.

"Fallout New Vegas Dead Money DLC will be available only for Xbox 360 and it will cost 800 MS points ( which is about 10$ ). Dead Money DLC will have you become a victim of a “raw deal ” fighting for survival along with three other wastelanders, in order to acquire “the legendary treasure of the Sierra Madre Casino“

On a more happy note modders have finally delivered what we always wanted. Check the picture ;)

Oh Jesus Christ the Xbawks DLC expands the level cap to 35... as if maxing 5-6 stats is not enough. Why don't they just throw in the insanely stupid "almost perfect" perk as well to really complete the retardation.

I'm almost glad I can't buy it, but then watch the first PC DLC push it up to 40 and throw in an invincible coat of armor like Anchorage did. If you pay enough you can enable God mode!
I still do not get why people want to continue to play after the end. I would perfer a new game that continues the Fallout story (FO1, FO2, FO:NV).

As for the DLC what I get is that they are trying to get a more interactive experience where you need to work with the NPC to reache the end.

It doesn't do anything to the level cap or allow you to play after the MC, you don't even play as the Courier. Seems to be a self-contained adventure. Kinda like Operation Anchorage but using a different character entirely. This is the reason I am 'meh' about it and couldn't care less if the Xbox crowd get it first. I want to continue the Courier's story.
