Shambhala: Either we both missed it or they didn't announce it.

Fallen_Zen: You didn't miss anything. We're working on it very hard right now. That's why we weren't updating the GOG Downloader recently ;) More info coming this year.
Ok, will wait then!

kroc: A client, really? Code that doesn't need to be written IMO. I don't like that I have to run Steam and UPlay sometimes and this is yet more to slow my machine down :/

CeeKay: I figure I'll give Galaxy a spin, pre-order Witcher 3 at a later point, but bummed there were apparently no new publishers announced for GOG.com. I figured there wouldn't be any Cyberpunk stuff, I'm not really expecting to hear anything on that game until later this year as I imagine the original plan before the delay was to wait until W3 released then start giving info on on 2077.
I guess that between this client and Linux availability they are pretty busy...

Fallen_Zen: We're not forgetting Linux guys. We'll be giving more info later this year.
Galaxy is being done with PC, Mac and Linux in mind.

kellzap: Yay!! I'm glad to see some reassurance, since I'm gonna be making the switch soon. I can't wait!! Keep up the awesome work!! :D
They're hiring in case you know someone who is interested. ;)

Vainamoinen: One of the many, many things that should have been told, but weren't.

Collector's Edition RETAIL PRICE??
Seems to be heavily dependent on country. The only 2 I found working on the pre-order page are Poland and Norway. 350 zloty and 1300 kronen, which according to Google are 85 euro and 160 euro.
Just got a disappointing reply from GOG.com:

They are NOT offering backup copies of the Witcher 3 on GOG.com if you purchase the Collector's Edition.

Heck, they are not even offering the offers of the Digital Edition and the Collector's Edition.

:'(

Call me greedy, but surely forcing people to choose between the Digital Edition and the Collector's Edition is just as bad as forcing people to choose between which retailer to order from?

Either way, my enthusiasm has been severely dampened, particularly since it is highly likely that I will not actually be able to PLAY the Witcher 3 on my PC...

kroc: For now. It always goes the same way with any such software. Mark my words.
I don't think so... GOG tried to drop it's fair pricing (= no regional pricing) principle not long ago. All hell broke loose and we're back to fair pricing even before they abandoned it. DRM-free is something that's more important to almost every GOG user. They won't survive a mandatory client to play GOGs.

kellzap: Great announcements! Wild Hunt looks bad ass and I may be per-ordering it. But I'm even more excited for GOG Galaxy!!! I've downloaded and back up all of my games, and I would love to use it for easier organization. (Any dates for release?)

But, I'm extremely disappointed that there was no mention on GOG's endeavors with Linux, since we haven't heard anything about it since March.

Having watched the video again, I'm trying to figure out how exactly the advertised "Cross-play" feature is meant to work. Am I to understand that GOG Galaxy will come with a free API (similar to Steamworks) for developers to take advantage of?
That would be my guess, concerning the API.

If they can make it play well with Steamwork somehow, that will be a huge incentive for developers to adopt that solution.

kroc: For now. It always goes the same way with any such software. Mark my words.
Nah, it would cause another BIG uproar.
avatar
trusteft: I hope for the client, GOG people don't listen again to the people who advised them on the previous "well received" changes.

2 days to go.
Well, you got your wish! http://www.gog.com/galaxy

Copying everybody else is a sure way to become irrelevant. More focus on making older games playable out of the box please!

P.S. For the money & time spent on developing and maintaining the client they could do something like develop a brand new portable engine for running the Tomb Raider I - V games on any hardware, for example. Or put together a branded and supported multi-emulator and sell ROMs.

There's so many better things IMO that could be done instead of a boring client.
How many games do you own in here?

I own several hundreds. An auto-updating client would be more than welcome!

Also, in the grand scheme of things, what you are talking about is A LOT more work than an auto-updating client, like, probably at least 10 times more man-hours as you'd need to play with some very low level stuff and a lot of very specialized expertise would be involved.

Please don't turn this into another regional pricing paranoia thread...

The example they used in the conference was "You bought the game on Steam, I bought the game on GOG, we want to play online together". That does sound quite fascinating, wish to learn more.
About $150 in AUD. Once it hits ebay I'll need $500 ready :'( I can do it but I'm gonna need to sell more things.
