real.geizterfahr: Mostly. Additionally, it'll handle updating your games.

HypersomniacLive: Judas said that the GOG Galaxy client is independent from GOG Galaxy (for multiplayer).
So... You have GOG Galaxy client for updating and... what exactly is that GOG Galaxy multiplayer-thingie then? Isn't it the same client? I'm confused... :(

HotfireLegend: I'd really like to know if The Witcher 3 will be available on mac - the main website doesn't list it as a platform, but several other websites do.
I imagine it will support Windows, Mac, and maybe Linux as those are the OSes that the Witcher 2 came out on - however, I don't know if when they say that PC and consoles will be released simultaneously that all OSes on the PC will be supported out of the gate. That said, GOG and Steam generally just add support for the other OS when it becomes available.

EDIT: at the moment GOG only has it listed for Windows (you can see it is the only symbol under the game in the top sellers part of the front page where it is listed as coming soon). But the other OSes (Mac and Linux) will probably be added in the future - and they may still be available at launch but just aren't talked about yet.

Magnitus: If they can make it play well with Steamwork somehow, that will be a huge incentive for developers to adopt that solution.

JMich: The example they used in the conference was "You bought the game on Steam, I bought the game on GOG, we want to play online together". That does sound quite fascinating, wish to learn more.
Ditto..

I know that as a developer, I like to reach as many platforms with as little work as possible.

So if they pull it off, it will put a damper on the "We release only on Steam because of Steamworks" annoyance.

Tpiom: Well, I just pre-ordered the Witcher 3 and already own Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition I present you this to you: 2BN5QEB93JDJKN

NR, as I already have NWN, but thanks! +1

real.geizterfahr: This perfectly shows what went wrong with PC gaming. People find the idea "fascinating" that two people who own the same PC game can play it together... Hope GOG can make this something normal again.
It's not so much the "Two people bought the game and they want to play together", it's more a "You can use steamworks without using steam" kind of thing. That is what I find fascinating. So you can make a game using an existing network infrastructure, and someone else can piggyback on it.
Or it may work like Gamespy did, a collection of servers, in which case it's not as fascinating.

Vainamoinen: Retail DRM??
I'd be interested to know about that too. The retail version looks sweet and it would be an instabuy for me (well, insta-pre-order, that is).

However, considering their statement in the FAQ that "CD Projekt RED is sticking to their word and ditching DRM altogether wherever they have control over it", I'd be cautiously pessimistic. Sounds a bit like they're already shifting blame for a Steam'd retail release to their publisher.
Can any one sum up what the conference was about? My data throttled at the moment so I wasn,t able to watch. Not to long just some of the major ones. Thanks

With GOG.com doing cross-connection details, it may be fun to see it implemented for various releases of classic games, for example Baldur's Gate. being able to play this with people who only have the boxed retail versions would be AWESOME!

Pre-order Witcher 3 - Get lots of goodies!

Also, have a look at this sweet trailer for GOG Galaxy - The Optional Client (I really like the sound of that!)

Also, Marcin took a much-needed swipe at Steam during the presentation. *THUMBS UP*

I guess I am a bad person for being gifted witcher 2 on steam then buying witcher 1 on steam.

If they let you use your code on GOG anyway what does it mater.

If it's an API, it would have to coded directly in the game, so it would not retroactively work with older games, unless they somehow stick an emulator layer underneath the game (kinda like what DosBox does for DOS games, but for networking) that talks to the game using the older protocol it knows and at the other end uses the API to communicate with other clients.

That would be pretty cool. I guess we'll have to see what they have in mind exactly.

We need more info on both of them to understand their features and differences.
