Too bad all forum archives aren't kept. I sometimes check the oldest threads, at the 1300th page (and last one before deletion).

Two day ago, I was reading a 2008 forum discussion about how gog could offer some special promos or sales actions. Some were arguing that the game prices are low enough already on gog. Others were saying that it wasn't about big discounts anyway, but, sometimes, a 10% discount on a game, or a buy 7 get 8 games thing, maybe, could maybe occasionally be worth it, to motivate hesitant buyers on the edge about a game they wouldn't have time to play immediately...

Fast forward to today. "WAAAH 50% SALES ? THAT IS POINTLESS" and "WHAAAH THAT 75% DISCOUNTED GAME WASN'T EVEN ON MY WISHLIST" and "WAAAH THIS SALE IS SO LAAAAME".

I suggest gog to lower all the games to 10% of their price, and to offer one game of each wishlist free. Just to behold the whining of the next year, when people will have got used to it, and will consider themselves entitled to full access to the catalogue for 1 cent, during holiday sales...

Seriously hope your kidding. Classics are well priced and indies..well they are priced at what the devs want them to be. If anything the prices of indie games imho are a bit inflated (regardless of indie bundling). We all forget its up to the devs to agree to the discounts .....
I don't see what's so different from this sale than the others. Always has been 50% off + daily bundles. Looks fine to me.

The only thing I can call a disappointment is that most of the really marked-down games I already own. Like, this is hardly the first time that that D&D bundle has been offered here, not even close! The good thing about that though is that my wallet has been left (relatively) unscathed so that I have enough for the intermittent wishlisted game that gets discounted.
I bet all you people complaining about prices have a huge backlog and you wouldn't play those new games in months anyway :)

(please note the smiley)
So far I have only purchased Trine (for a buck and I already own it elsewhere).

I have a decent backlog and bought a few games in the previous sale so it doesn't bother me.
I’ve got a hole in my pocket,
though I’m not sure if it's something a touch lacking,
or something a touch extra. :P

nijuu: So aside from the mystery deal issue, what else could GOG have done to make this one better? (ignoring the build a bundle concept some seem to keep going on about in various threads)
Build your own bundle? XD

OMG.. and complaining never stops...

SSolomon: The 50% across the board discount seems pretty pointless. I could get a lot of games cheaper on steam just using the coupons they fill my inventory with. ...
I'm not convinced that Steam really undercuts GOG prices with 50% discount. For some games maybe but surely not for most. Just to get a feeling could you tell me roughly how many of the GOG top 20 bestselling games you can buy at Steam for a price that amounts to a discount >50% on GOG?

I'm pretty satisfied with the christmas sale because all games are at least 50% which results in my opinion mostly in competitive prices. However, since I have already most of the games I want to have, I can wait and cherry pick for the really special offers.

So what I would wish for is that the special surprise only shows me games I do not yet have (that's very seldom the case) and even more important that GOG informs me, when a game from my wishlist is available with a discount >50%.

Surely 80% on everything would be even greater but I'm happy even without.

Cliche - can't please everyone comes to mind :)
GOG added the pace. Now I will surely find something to buy at 75% discount. The normal prices never go down, so the discounts must go up to compensate for the ageing.
I think the sale is fine. I mean, what's to complain about? GOG has to pay for its bills just like we do ours, they're not going to hand out all their games for free, etc. The prices are good, the games are good, the service is good, and if you want it cheaper somewhere else that's your choice.
Um....

For those of you complaining? Look at what just happened to the front page. Holy crap!
Once you've been through a few big sales on games sites they can feel a bit boring or less than ideal.. But that is mostly because you've likely already bought most of the games you want in previous sales. So you end up with less of a backlog of games to get and with more of the ones you want being more recent releases and this not up to sale or not yet up to as high a sale discount.

You see the same thing on Steam - big sales that once had you crying as your wallet was drained now replaced with only a few choice purchases here and there. The sales are not getting any worse (indeed one could easily argue they get better and bigger each time) its that you've just bought more last time :P

I didn't know yet that you can also buy only parts of a bundle here for the same discount, effectively making this whole bundling business a bit ridiculous. So I bought Wing Commander 5 only for 66% discount or $2 within the Spacesim promo. I think this price is good enough and cannot be beaten by Steam because Steam doesn't have it at all. I will surely have some hours of fun from the game and for that the price really feels very low. Of course I don't know if ever I'll play it really.
