Niggles: So Magicmaker is coming up again (was this one of the fresh flashes a day or so back?)... anyone got it, played it...comments? :)
It looks really nice, but the reviews sound a bit doubtful. If you have Steam they have a demo, apparently, so you could give it a go before deciding.

Tannath: Amusing? Yes. For how long? Meh. True to it's freemium origins, it's just too grindy, takes a long time to get resources to build your capital island. In the end, it's Bejeweled under a different guise. Amusing for a while, but gets old real fast.

donsanderson: Thanks, you saved me some money. ;)
avatar
CarrionCrow: Would say probably not, personally. It sounds like it was built to ultimately entice people to spend real money for game perks. That got gutted, of course, but reading the reviews, it sounds like all the pay-to-win garbage is now just grinding in-game until you're ready to scream.
avatar
donsanderson: Thanks to you too.
The damn thing is addictive though, I'll give it that. ;)

foxworks: Very true. Clients are dumping projects on my virtual lap and fleeing before the Thanksgiving Holiday. Kinda like what Sachys does with his poo. Fortunately, my clients don't pay with feces.
avatar
HypersomniacLive: You need a hand? My virtual lap is pretty empty right now and no Thanksgiving Holiday to distract me. (~_^)
*Hands over Silk, the cat
Here you go. Now you have yourself a lap-warmer :D

CarrionCrow: Now giggling at the thought of someone apologizing for talking about video games in a video game sale thread on a video game sale site that's in the process of selling a buttload of video games for next to nothing. =)

donsanderson: Well, I felt kinda bad breaking up the 'gifting circle' but I started this sale with a whole $22.00 to last me the entire sale so I can't join in. :-(
During insomnia I was flush and throwing codes every which way, but not this time sadly.
So I figured I'd do something on topic to throw you all off. <grin, jk>
Out of curiosity, what kinds of games do you enjoy? Might possibly be able to recommend something that'll provide the most bang for your buck.
This is a question to anyone as insane as I. Am I the only one who, upon seeing only one or two games not owned in the flash section, has been tempted to buy those gamesbl to make them all say owned.

Thank you. Please feel free to laugh at me.

Stilton: Question for the real hardnuts:

Are any of these Myst games worth going for, and if so, which is the best? I suppose by best I mean the truest to the original Myst ethos. I remember trying it out on a Mac about two hundred years ago and it had a really nice atmosphere, so that (atmosphere) should probably be the criteria.

I thank you.
The one on a Flash Deal is the original one with better graphics (not sure how much that matters to you). For Real Myst, read the first review on the game page, sums it up pretty nicely, and if you fee like it read the user reviews on MobyGames.

It's basically a love or hate thing with this series - if you're into this type of adventure games you're going to have a good time with the above mentioned as well as with Riven and Uru.

ddickinson: Don't you dare mister! You will spoil the other gifters fun.

* makes a list of games on Hyper's wishlist, just in case :-) *
Is that a threat I sense there? ;-P

*goes and changes all games in wishlist, makes it public only for a few moments, then takes it down*

Hmm... am I to assume you don't trust me with your work? :(

Oh and thank you for the lap-warmer, but you can't hand me over only Silk, Nat is going to be lonely! ;-D

At times. But the games involved all have to have a certain level of innate appeal. Too many things on the wishlist to burn cash on games I flatout KNOW I would never play.

I haven't been gaming long, just since a few years ago when disability gave me the spare time, so I'm still exploring genres. Adventure/RPGs with a lot of exploration seem to be becoming what I enjoy most. I own a LOT of games but you know how it is during a sale. ;)
Collecting is as addictive as playing.

Indeed. ;) In all probability a very silly question, but do you have any of the Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale games? When you said RPG with a lot of exploration, those came to mind.
Granted, Icewind Dale centers around exploring all kinds of dungeons, but still....-laughs-

Not silly at all. The D&D games are among the first I purchased here and I have my Baldurs all modded up.
Would kind of like a couple of less 'brain intensive' ones to play when I don't feel real ambitious.
This sale I'm pretty much just looking for a few 'plain old fun' things to add to my shelf.

Stilton: Excellent, thank you!
That was a short poem, oh bard. ;-D

On a more serious note - it's the least I could do for all your lovely poems, slipped helmet or not. :-D

Hmmm. Do you have, or have you ever heard of, Nox?

I have it, never played it though. Good times?
