promised myself I would actually finish A game this year.....
RCT Deluxe - GOG : always playing it, endless fun if you play one scenario for week

Tropico 1 - GOG: same above

Defender´s Quest - GOG: already did the normal, going into the play+, but not excited about it, gets boring after finishing the game a first time, ´cause you already studied and know the maps

Major Mayhem - Desura: well, it´s a casual shooter, I go for it always that I want some relax...

World of Goo - Steam : I wasn´t expecting too much, but the game surprised me. Play it when want some casual too.

GTA San Andreas - Steam: best GTA ever! Played some years ago on PS2, bought it at the promo, remembering all the fun!

Civ III - Steam: Always playing it too, more than 300 hours on it...

Planescape: Torment - GOG : Just started it, not many impressions yet

Me seems, we have about the same taste...

misteryo: Skyrim (My favorite modder just published his Skyrim mods! Yay!)
I'd love to play it - but my pc is to weak *sigh*

avatar
misteryo: Oblivion (Finally playing the main quest and the mage's guild quests. Yay!)
I definitely recommend the OOO mod (if you don't have it already. Sunk more than 400 hours into this one and there are still some side quests open (finished main quest, mage's guild, fighter's guild, knights of the nine, shiverings isles main quest and arena didn't do thieves and assassins).

avatar
misteryo: Dear Esther (Violence-free 1st person gaming. So awesome. So progressive and innovative. I'm so into this. It's just that I don't have the attention span right now. I'm not bored, really. I love intellectual crap like this. I'm just kinda distracted at the moment. I'll play more as soon as I have the presence of mind to really soak it up.)
This one should definitely be on GOG, along with The Path.

avatar
misteryo: Dark Souls: Prepare to Die (Finally, a real challenge. I've been waiting for this. I love a real challenge. I love playing the tutorial dungeon over and over and over and over...)
I'd love to play it...

avatar
misteryo: Botanicula (With my ten month old on my lap. :) )
Got stuck with the chickens. But BEAUTIFUL game. Gave it to my wife and my elder daughter also loves it.

avatar
misteryo: Dragon Age Origins
Have it here but haven't had time to play it yet.

avatar
misteryo: Baldur's Gate I and II (Modded all together, wide-screened, etc. etc., character created, game started. I will finish it this time, I swear!)
You can do it! ;-)
This is the first game my wife played through (some 200+ hours). That was, of course, before we had children...

misteryo: Oblivion
One of the worst games I've ever played. Whoever decided to use auto-leveling enemies should be kicked in the nuts. And the rest of the game isn't really any better IMO.

Deadlight and I am alive. But I'm enjoying more Deadlight. After I finish one of those I'll try out Saints Row The Third.

Of course you're right. After years, though, of learning to understand mods, to follow modders who know what they're doing, etc., I have modded the game to hell and back and finally gotten myself an engrossing, fun game out of it.

FCOM for deleveling the enemies. Plus great new content. Makes the world exciting and unpredictable and dangerous to explore.
Oblivion XP for player leveling. No more level-skills-by-using-them. Instead, old fashioned do-stuff-get-xp. Level up, spend the xp. Beautiful.
Tejon's mods for character creation. Your race, class, birthsign - it all matters a lot. No jack-of-all-trades anybody can be all things anymore. Your initial choices determine your potentialities and your playstyle.
TheNiceOne's mods to make sense of the economy (can't get filthy rich anymore), the map (mark dungeons as "done"), sigil stones, the timescale, potion weights, and more.

Those form the base, and a dozen or two other mods round it out. I'm very happy with the result and so I am finally playing long enough to attack the main quest and the mage's guild.

Keep in mind, though, that I am right now eating a Hillsboro Farms Yard O' Beef Summer Sausage, so, you know, there's no accounting for taste. Your mileage may vary.

Cheers.

I recommend DA:O. I think it's a lot of fun. I just avoid the romances. Blech.

And perhaps this summer will be the summer I finally finish Baldur's Gate. Perhaps.

It has its flaws. The biggest is the auto-leveling of the enemies, a problem has been solved by various mods (I used OOO together with a whole bunch of other mods, misteryo stuck to FCOM and lots of others (than me) it seems). I really wouldn't recommend playing vanilla Oblivion (poor console gamers).

The second biggest flaw in my eyes is the main quest - it's not very thrilling for some parts (I liked the private otherworld of one of the main antagonists). Also it's "urgent" (by storytelling - not by game logic), discouraging the player to wander off and explore the world - which it nonsense in an open world game like this. Morrowind did a better job: follow the main quest for a view minutes, then you get told to go out in the world and gather some experience (level up) before it continues. No rush - perfect. But I know this turned a lot of people off who felt let down by the game due lack of guidance.

My recommendation is to let the main quest be for quite a while (which you must with OOO, level < 12 in burning Kvatch means a lot of pain and death). Instead go exploring, talk to people. There are a lot of little side quests and this is where the game truly shines - interesting little stories and tasks.

And then there is The Shivering Isles. One of the best crafted and most interesting little worlds I ever visited in front of a computer screen.
CS:GO
Shadowgrounds.
I finished Area-51 the second time, this time on hard difficulty (which wasn't unlocked until you finish the game once with medium difficulty).

It went much faster this time, I could have easily finished it in two evenings. Overall the game felt only slightly harder than on medium, so again I don't see the point why Hard is locked at first. Silly.

While I'm at Midway (RIP) games, maybe I'll try The Suffering next...

I've been also playing a bit of the Peggle Deluxe... but so far I fail to see why it has gotten so much praise, even for a casual game. Too much pure luck involved, even more so than in Angry Birds games, so it appears you will mostly finish levels out of luck, after enough retries. I feel there's quite little actual skill involved as the route the bean will go is quite random anyway. Yeah Angry Birds is a bit similar, the outcome is always a bit randomized no matter how accurately you try to aim.

I guess it's ok, but I'm bored. I rate such casual games like Plants vs Zombies, Zuma games or Angry Birds games higher than this, sorry.

The Suffering is really worth a try. Very dense horror atmosphere. I didn't get through it though, got stuck somewhere with frustration (IMO difficulty is imbalanced a lot).

Also this is a game where everything has to go perfect to achieve the best ending. If you want to go this way, better check some walkthroughs - sometimes it's hard to tell if a NPC is supposed to die or if it's one of those annoying scenes where you somehow have to save him to get to the best ending.
Dragon Age: Origins (Again)

Picked up a copy of DA:O Ultimate for the PS3 the other day; thinking my boys may give it a go as they are the console gamers more than I. Installed all the content and did a quick run through of the Mage starting sequence.

I now have re-installed my PC Version of the Collector's Edition and re-installed all the DLC I bought along the way (Awakenings seems to not want to Install - Anyone have any thought?)

There just is no comparison between the PC and Console version for me. The PC just feels so much more - I don't know - intimate maybe. It just seems so much better with keyboard and mouse and the screen right there in front of me. I love the controls better on the PC - especially for poking and snooping around.

So I am giving the PC Version another run.
Looks like I got a bit sidetracked on working on my backlog. Been playing a good amount of Trackmania 2 Stadium. Love those games. I'll probably be picking it up along with Canyon once that open beta ends.
Just downloaded a WW1 mod for Hearts of Iron 3 so I may give that a shot.
