I've been unable to get this game working at all. Windows 10 it doesn't run, 8.1, doesnt run, 7, doesnt run, even under a virtual machine running Windows 98 (which people have said it works) all I get is an illegal operation has been performed as soon as a double click the icon.

I'd really like to play this again, and i've looked on Google and not really found anything helpful so i'm hoping the great classical minds of the GOG forum can help me.

Have you tried creating a virtual hard drive in disk management that's small enough to glitch out the installer (somewhere around/under 1 Gig should be fine)? I got that tip from a youtube playthrough of the game running in win8.

Also, try the compatibility modes, specifically 95.

From what I remember, it should work in 7 and 8 without a whole lot of fiddling.

I've not tried that. So just go into DM and create a 500mb partion for C: ? then install to that partition?

That might work.

What I meant was in Administrative Tools > Computer Management. Under that, go to disk management. On the right side should be an option for more actions, which should have the option to create a VHD. After you create it, then you can attach it and it will act as a separate disk despite just being a file stored on your PC.

Ok so just did the above, and nothing. SAme as before all I get is a loading circle next to the cursor then that vanishes then nothing happens. Its not even running in processes.

Yeah, I've seen a few people with a similar problem to yours, but none of them ever posted a solution of some kind, with one almost identical in description. Apparently people have gotten the game working in DOSBOX, allegedly, just by running it straight through it (I can't even remember if it had a DOS version) or, again allegedly, installing win95 to DOSBOX and running it.

I know thats why i'd thought I would ask here, as i've had no luck else where. Thanks for your help though.

This is normally when I post the link to be helpful but that's pretty much a pirated software download site. I don't believe doing so is kosher around here.

*shrug* A number of times, I've wanted to post links to support forums on those websites when fixes are provided.

I know folks may disagree with this statement but there are a few ethical pirate websites out there.
The installer works fine on Win10 with win98 compatibility flag and run as administrator flag. Don't install DirectX3 during the setup, obviously. If you get glitchy graphics, use a directx wrapper (extract into the game folder with the game .exe) -> https://github.com/narzoul/DDrawCompat/releases
