I'm sure there are many games out there that would easily make the list of the worst games ever made, such as Superman 64 and E.T. ... but I was wondering what you would consider to be the most disappointing game that you have ever played.

I'm sure this thread will be ripe with controversy, so I'll get things started with my choice: Shining Force II - That's right, I said it ... despite the fact that this game has mostly positive reviews, I found it to be a lackluster sequel to the first game in the series. The characters were bland, the storyline was even more bland, and the gameplay was extremely tedious and repetitive. That being said, the first Shining Force game is one of the best strategy games ever made ... so don't be too hard on me!

Command and conquer: Tiberian sun.
Was hyped massively back in 1999, turned out to be thoroughly mediocre. Great disappointment, ended my interest in C&C.
Probably Bioshock. Sure, there have been far greater stinkers than Bioshock, but with Bioshock I found the discrepancy between the absurd amounts of praise the game received and the actual game to be the most jarring.

I remember it being praised, but not to this degree. Great game.
What's on the bottom of the front page .
For me it's without any doubts Deus Ex. That game was average when it came out, it's average still but people just think it is gold. I don't get it.

Another is Fallout New Vegas. Apparently this was a big leap back to the original games. Yeah, was it hell. It was a tedious empty game with very little to do. Then there was the bugs, holy hell the bugs. It was so bad that it made Bethesda's games look bug free by comparison.

I agree it wasn't as great as people say, but there are worse offenders out there surely. Looking at GTA4 for instance. The delightful Warhammer: man of loose tie ins and dreadful bugfests, tempest (they didn't even bother changing the mobile touch screens).

Really? This is my go to whenever I see it in an arcade ... but then it steals all of my money.

I can't even get this thing to run properly. It's either a slideshow or everything is in ultra slow motion. From what I've seen, it looks amazingly ugly too (I've been trying to find a button to turn off depth of field, hoping that this would make the game run better and look less ass - to no avail).

But then again I had zero expectations for GTAIV. Like I said, there are greater stinkers out there...

The problem was EVERYONE told me to buy it, told me it was amazing, and thirty years later I keep hearing that, but I just flat out never liked it.

It's not a bad game, just disappointing for me.

Now that I think about it, System Shock 1 and 2 are probably on a par with Gradius in this regard.

Oh, and Gradius is on the NES Mini, but the cheat codes don't work.

Don't get me started. I purchased on release day, boxed edition full price. Tried installing, broke. After an hour or so with tech support got it working. Then it broke half hour later (social club mostly). So then binned it. Came back a few years later with a cracked edition. Played it for an hour or so through the stale dialog, awful graphics, girlfriend nonsense. Before deleting it. It is really awful for a series which is really good it's a big dissapointment. Thankfully GTA5 was a real return to form, and the engine is just incredible, especially with what moders are doing.

GTA IV was a big disappointment for me too.
Deus Ex Invisible War. I was really expecting Deus Ex 2. Each time I tried playing it again, I assumed my it was just me, that I was wrong, that I just had to force myself past a dull, cramped, beginning. Well, if that's so, I never pushed myself far enough.

I was also disappointed in Tempest, which looked like a cool pirate game, but, the gameplay, the controls, the graphics and animations, just disappointed me. Strangely, Rebel Galaxy turned out a better version of that game.

And Smugglers V. The levelling system and how it caps your abilities made it a much more constrained game than the open-ended game I was hoping it to be.

Also Prisoner of Ice. Shadow of the Comet was a nice capture of Lovecraft's world, Prisoner of Ice felt like a retarded teenage roleplaying version of it, ending in scifi laser fights or whatnot. So yeah, really not expanding on what I liked in the first one.

And Syndicate Wars, though I cannot remember why. I wasn't fond of the factions, but I also felt something was lost in the feel of the universe, interface, gameplay. It's too long ago, cannot pinpoint it well anymore. I was a big fan of the original Syndicate (on the Amiga).

Also had a mild disappointment with AvP2, that, in contrast with AvP, felt inpired by the comics tie-ins more than by the movies, and so felt more "cool" than "creepy". The subsequent games only steadily added to the disappointment, until maybe Isolation, which I haven't played yet, but may be closer to the horror roots of the movie.

But mostly Invisible War.
The only game I ever pre-ordered. Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Still haven't played through that one. I just didn't like it.

These days I try to avoid games because they're all more or less disappointing.. though there's the occassional surprise, like Doom 3.
