Got permission to post this poem about
Kerbal Space Program. It
wasn't written by me, I take no credit.
Basically, a friend of mine will randomly write poems about things to one of her friends so they have "something nice to wake up to" when they come on IRC to chat to her. They range from the endearing, to the amusing, to the surreal. This particular one was written after she streamed KSP to said friend demonstrating an orbital rescue, recounting the events.
Enjoy!
Amongst the stars we'll fly tonight
With booster rockets and cabin sealed tight
From VAB to launchpad, we're ready to go
To get into orbit, the fuel must flow
The countdown begins, we're about to leave
Through the thick atmosphere, our rocket will weave
A path out to space, laid down in smoke
We're holding on tight, we're going for broke
The ship tilts over for our gravity turn
Detach the boosters, time for engines to burn
Move through the sky like a low shooting star
For a people without cities, it's kind of bizarre
We're reached apoapsis, engines roar again
A circularising burn, so this is not all in vain
With eccentricity low, we're now weightless out here
Our first visit to space, I may shed a tear
"Don't touch that button", he says, as the engines detach
Now stranded in space, plans must be hatched
To retrieve the data, an excursion, some EVA
With jetpack in hand, Jeb saves the day
He pushed the capsule, at quite a slow pace
Using his hands.. and probably, his face
Periapsis drops enough for some aerobraking
He climbs back aboard, no longer forsaken
The pod re-enters, gaining a lot of heat
But this is Jebdiah. His heart? A steady beat
Parachute deploys, we're now floating down gently
Mission control is watching, ever so intently
Splashdown! He's back! He is sound and safe
With Jebidiah at the controls, who needs faith?
