So as it's a world-wide forum (not US-centric), I was a bit curious how people here feel about the Greek situation regarding Europe and their debts right now as we're one week before what could be a big turn of events in EU history (or not....).

Long story short:

Russia is tempting Greece to leave to EU. EU does not want to abandon Greece to not give Russia anything despite that the Greek debts is bringing down the whole EU.

Very distressing. In a "game of chicken", by definition, the biggest, most irresponsible asshole wins. In this case, it looks like a tie between the (greek and "european") contestants to that title. None of the protagonists' narratives ("we did EVERYTHING we can but THEY stubbornly refuse ANY concession") can be trusted, and the outsiders comments generally ooze with ignorance and racism.

It's a bit of a gut-wrenching subject. I kinda see it as an elephant in the room, in the sense that it's on many people's minds, but nobody really feels like talking about it. It's been draining emotions for so long, people are just nauseated and exhausted. But most of the foreign "aah we are so fed up with that already" commenters have the luxury to turn away and look elsewhere...

Also (and i'm saying this as a non-EU swiss sitting middle in that physical pseudo-continent), calling the EU "europe" was itself a dirty manipulative rhetorical trick, that comes with a very high cost. Especially for a country that absurdly struggles to define its identity between the moronic fake duality of "east" and "west".

That there is some very sophisticated Greek tragedy.
The situation is s**t, but I don't even know what would be the best solution..
Btw, Italy is on the same boat, unfortunately. :(
In the end, only Germany will remain in Europe XD

Greece should have been kicked out of the eurozone years ago. They just want to live on other countries money for ever. Billions have been sunk into that country since the whole thing begun, and nothing changed. They did not reform a bit. Let the go bunkrupt. The EU will survive. It's better than sinking even more money every year.

Now just fallen into irrelevence :(

Ah, the game continues. Nothing new is going to happen. Troika will definitely give Greece the new 3 year help loan (as it was forseen in the agreement that goes on the referendum vote) after the eu and greek propaganda machines calm down. EU states gave to many money quarantees to Greece so that it could get loans so the member states will be liable for greek debt if it should go bankrupt so there is nothing else to do then continue the game.

I wish they were irrelevent. That would at least mean they are not making big trouble for everyone. And I don't feel sorry fo them. They are leeching money from the entire EU, they have been for years, and instead of trying to change that, they are doing everything to keep it that way and act all outraged that other countries demand they pull their shit together.

Is this only Greece? I thought this was a fact to all the more "lesser" Euro countries mostly in the East.

No offense

Somehow I'm under the impression that Greece's predicament says more about what is wrong with the EU than with Greece.

I believe in the EU in the fact that its the only thing preventing Europe from Warring with each other.

1000s of years of conflict within this piece of land filled with so MANY different cultures and langauges.

Oh, that was racist somehow? Oh. Right. Yeah. I'm so sorry. I guess the politically correct thing is to be glad that we can pump even more money into that leaking bucket.

How in the fuck was that racist? Are you out of your mind?

This is mind boggling. They basically scammed the world for years, then when it fell apart they have been given hundreds of millions to reform, did not, demand to be given more, and somehow suggesting that maybe it's not fair for everyone else to have their money sink into that black hole makes me racist. I can't... I just can't.
