I don't remember regretting a purchase because of this, but yeah, The Meat Circus was aggravating. Also, the River Slide in Tomb Raider (2013).

That goddamn jump in Prince of Persia would qualify if I ever bought it.

Planescape: Torment, too? Heresy.

dtgreene: It feels like it wouldn't be as bad as having the level reset the instant the tank is alerted, as happens in many Zelda games (starting with Ocarina of Time) in their mandatory insta-fail stealth sequences.
TBH, I thought the water temple in OOT was worse than the stealth sections. It's been a long time since I played the game so I might be wrong but wasn't the Gerudu fortress the only place with the mandatory stealth sections? And yeah, insta-fail stealth sections in games really blow.

On topic, no one wants to mention how "fun" it was finding loot in the Cathedral level in Thief 1?

The water temple, if you exclude the boss at the end, was actually my favorite part of the game. It felt like that was the only part of the game that truly used the 3D, and I was disappointed in the complete lack of water in later dungeons. (The final area, which didn't even feel like a full dungeon, really should have had a water section, at least.)

(Although the Iron Boots really should have been a C button item.)

There's actually two stealth sections. Did you forget the one in Hyrule Castle that comes before you even get access to the second dungeon?

It's just when you replaced the hookshot with the longshot it was a bit disorienting where you were meant to go next as you weren't looking for an unopened door/area this time around, but one of those plate thingies in the distance. It was a bit of a pain back them as you really couldn't just check a walkthrough online to see what you missed so you had to systematically recheck each area..

Yes they should have. Didn't they make that change in the 3DS OOT re-release though? I know there were some changes to the inventory system I just can't remember the specifics. My sister has the game but I only played around with it for a few minutes.

Oooooohhhhhh yeeeeeaaaahhhhh, the part were you had to avoid the castle guards by sneaking around the hedges. Yup, I forgot all about that part until now.

I'm not so sure about that.

Chrono Trigger's sewer level, while it exists, is something that many players (including me) forget about, and it's optional. (I don't even remember if you ever need to go there during a side quest.)

SaGa 1's sewer level is part of one of the most exciting parts of that game. How many games have you riding a motorcycle through a subway, then through a sewer, and into a nuclear power plant? (Final Fantasy 7 is the closest example I can think of, but there you ride the motorcycle *away* from the city with the power plants, not into them, plus FF7 came a lot later and wasn't as good as SaGa 1.)
I don't really regret any of the purchases, but i do have plenty of games that have "that level" or "those levels".
For example, Mafia II, the whole rest of the game after everything in the story starts to go downhill.
Max Payne: All the dream sequences where you're running on the blood trail.
Mass Effect 2: All the planetary probing.
Riddick: the pit.
Took a while, but I finally did think of one: Far Cry. I think it was the Factory level that finally did me in. The whole game is stupidly difficult and the car ride was almost bad enough, but trying to fend off those waves of enemies in the Factory was just too much for me. It was at that point I stopped having any fun with the game and decided I wouldn't finish it. The whole game feels like just an exercise in false difficulty. I've played some hard FPSs, but that one was the worst. Not a fun game, would not buy again.
Darksiders and area with portals near the end.

The game is actually pretty decent - when you learn how to save freely via console.
Thought of another one (though it was actually a gift): Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire. The third-person gameplay would have made this a decent game (even if not my favorite genre), if it weren't for the very first stage, which has you piloting a vehicle with air combat and having to wrap wires around enemies. (Yes, this game requires you to play in a genre other than the game's main genre in the *first* level.)

Edit: This was the Nintendo 64 version, by the way.

You referencing Mario games?
I love Dragon Age Origins but I realllllly hate the endless deep roads section, which is full of trash mobs and repetitive scenery.

Aplomado: Half-Life's final Zen levels.
