Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

itchy01ca01: Inquisitor (crashed...)

having that problem on vista and win 8. The controls seem a little funky too when I can get it to go..
All games here have their own Forum, where people post issues and solutions, as well as hints and tips.. that is a good place to look for resolutions...
I remember they offered 600 PS Torment, it was gone in like 30 seconds.
several ppl have gotten multiple freebies... so it could do with where they are as well and how fast their connection refreshes from the server

defusedbox: Has Alpha Centauri went on sale in the third loop yet?
Not yet.
avatar
Ungunbu: how r u measuring ping?
In milliseconds. 1 millisecond is a thousandth of a second.
avatar
CorranHorn: Lol, I would love to see them try playing Falcon 4 or Hearts Of Iron=).
avatar
Minmataro: LOL yeah.

Its sad the death of the game manual also ended the game makers expectation of the gamer. That the gamer could figure something out on his/her own. No manual came first, then tutorials and then big blinking arrows for every objective. Man... thats depressing.
Yes, I started playing on my brothers Vic 20, he got tired of it pretty quickly and gave it to me. I was hooked, got a C64 after that and two games, Tennis and Last Ninja and I can still remember the bloody pond and jumping on the stones with a feeling not many games give me today, the feeling of if I fail I have to do it all over again=).
You guys are all talking about ping 20 being better than 60. It's not noticeable for human. But there's other thing: they have to send the information about: "hey, the game is sold out! Next one is..." to thousands of people. And they can't do it all at once, because they have some throughput limit perhaps. So some people will get the information sooner then others, and will be able to click sooner.

saruchan: Your ping almost certainly has nothing to do with getting freebies. The thing is, your screen only updates every 2 seconds, and when that 2 seconds happens is based on when you first loaded the webpage. The freebie becomes available the millisecond that the last copy of the previous game sells. If that last copy is sold one millisecond after your browser last requested an update, other people have 1.999 seconds more than you to click before you even have a chance to see it.

bradelli: Are you sure? My ping is showing as 24ms, and I have got almost all of the free games that I saw (in fact I think all except Total Annihilation). I didn't do anything really special yet still got them. Then it turns out my ping is just smaller than other peoples. Could it not be a reason?
It has something to do with it. It means that you know a freebie is up faster than others. Let's use my ping as an example because it's so ridiculous. Ping is the time it takes a signal to get to the target and back. Yours is 24ms, so 12ms 1 way. Mine is 1177ms so 550ms one way. You can poll GoG a half a second after me and still know about a freebie before me. That's where a fast ping comes in handy.
what games will come soon? Not closed the 3. round?
OMG! - okay everybody, take a break now...going to be a LONG time...
STUPID SKIPS!!! On the plus side, barring ANOTHER skip, Riddick is next in line.

Frostyfirefly: Oh no, I have Windows 8 too, did you set it to administrator priority and compatibility mode?
Haven't really messed around with it much to tell you the truth. Im going to read the manual first before I attempt an actual playthrough.
avatar
JohnnyCash: Ok, that makes things clearer. Can you somehow influence the update interval?
Not easily. The website uses javascript to update and manage everything with the promo, and the 2 second refresh time is written directly in to the script. Refreshing the page manually will draw in the earlier offer before it changes, which may or may not be faster for you.

And since people were asking, I'm using FF with several addons and about 400 tabs open (not exaggerating, either). I still managed one freebie yesterday.
