There will be blood. Delicious blood.

Vampire®: The Masquerade - Bloodlines™, the timeless RPG masterpiece that has sucked many a gamer's time, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Intoxicating. Macabre. Vital. These are both traits of blood and of Vampire®: The Masquerade - Bloodlines™, the RPG that forever changed expectations on how the creatures of the night should be depicted in videogames. Was it the ridiculous replayability? The versatility of our vampiric abilities? The gripping visual and sound design? Perhaps the memorable NPCs and stellar writing. One thing is for certain: much like the daunting Antediluvians, this is a game whose allure only grows stronger with time. No point in resisting it any longer.

Sink your teeth into the definitive bloodsucking experience that is Vampire®: The Masquerade - Bloodlines™, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Note: This version includes third-party technical fixes, courtesy of Wesp5. The full unofficial patch, which also includes additional content, can be found over at Patches Scrolls.

Smannesman: What if you want to play the original game, unmodded?
The unofficial patch is the original with bugs fixed.
Why would you?
AMAZING NEWS!!! Wow, GOG is regaining my trust to full extent. Keep up the good work and I will keep up buying.

PS. I dont understand why people complain about the price. Its same everywhere. Maybe there could be a release discount.

Hunter65536: Me neither until six months ago, I've got it recently during Activision sale on steam and I'd say this is a must have if you even remotely like RPGs. I think it might be discounted in the next sale so I'd suggest to wait for but definitely get it during sale.

This game is mainly praised for excellent clan implementation, for eg. a toreador clan is more social vampire as opposed to Nosferatu who are deformed and shouldn't reveal themselves to humans and there's malkavian who get a side of insanity along with their vampirism so even their dialogue is pretty weird, even the NPC's you speak to observe your strange way of talking. Due to that each clan choice plays a bit differently than the other so there's a high replay value. Also you get experience points for completing quests rather than killing enemies and sometimes you'd get more experience points if go a particular way about the quest.
Thanks :)

I'll pop it on the wishlist then. I imagine it will be discounted reasonably quite soon so I'll pick it up eventually and try it.

I want to decide what I want to do with the game, I don't want it decided for me.

adaliabooks: So.... what's all the fuss about?

I have to say I'd never actually heard of this game before coming to GoG, but I've heard a hell of a lot about it since then.

What kind of RPG is it? What's the closest comparison to another game?

Not sure whether to add to my wishlist or not (certainly not picking it up yet at that price)
I'm assuming you're not familiar with the whole World of Darkness pen&paper RPGs or the Vampire the Eternal Struggle card game so here's a quick synopsis.
This is pretty much the world we live in however vampires do exist and have established the Masquerade, a sort of conspiracy and set of rules vampires follow in order to prevent regular humans from knowing about their existence. There are several clans divided into 2 sects: the Camarilla that tries to uphold the Masquerade and the Sabbat who think they should rule mortals.
Each clan has diferent characteristics (Gangrel are animalistic and connected to nature, Nosferatu are disfigured and must remain hidden, Malkavian are batshit crazy etc...) and disciplines (vampiric skills like dominate which let's you control weaker beings or celerity which is superhuman speed and so on and so forth).
This game let's you chose a clan, learn it's disciplines, interact with some of the best written NPCs ever, trying to figure out the best approach to any given situation, all while trying to retain your "humanity".
Closest comparison I can think of is the Original Deus Ex due to the amount of ways of solving quests.
The game is a great journey and higly reccomended.
Hope it helps and sorry for the long post.

There's an option to play that as well, we called it "Legacy". Just choose that and enjoy your vanilla game :)
I dare to say this game surpassed every modern ARPG combined when it comes to skills tree, character's branching. Not even Witcher 3 comes close.

Find a second-hand copy.

EDIT: Hah! GOG even accounted for you.

Or just download the Legacy version as Venita just stated I guess.

Cool, thanks for the non-douchey quick answer.

Siegor: snip
Thanks, that helps :)
I think maybe Deus Ex is only slightly more awesome, only because it's a bit more solid game with better pacing overall.

Not sure it has one. Bloodlines is a single-character RPG where you’re hastily inducted into the shadowy world of vampire politics and tossed between factions who take hold of your arms and legs and pull for all they’re worth. Aside from being able to sneak, intimidate, or charm your way out of many situations, the starting decision of selecting a clan can significantly change the game. Bloodlines is also praised for its atmosphere and features one of the scariest levels in gaming.
