The official version of the 80's classic game Montezuma's Revenge rebooted by the original developer – Montezuma's Revenge is now available on GOG with a -50% discount!

The classic puzzle solving action adventure platformer you loved in your youth is here to be enjoyed in its full glory on modern systems. It has all the original key features of the original Atari classic plus a number of interesting new improvements.

In Montezuma's Revenge, you’ll explore the chambers of the mysterious Aztec pyramid. Climb the stairs and ropes, collect keys to open doors, collect the jewels & swords, and the coveted torch! Beware of the snakes, skulls and spiders! And finally, find the treasure room at the end of the underground labyrinth!

Check it out!

Breja: So, being an old-school platformer, just how pull-your-hair-out smash-the-keyboard wake-the-neighbours difficult is it?

SCPM: The only controls are directional keys and a jump button. Jumping is fixed height/distance and you can't change direction mid-air like some other platformers. Your character will die if falling from just about any greater height than they can jump from. There's ladders, slides, locked doors, and assorted traps and enemies. But, you can save anywhere, anytime, there's basically unlimited continues as is (your score resets when you run out of lives), if you're killed by an enemy then the enemy is removed from the room, and the game auto-saves at the entrance to every room you enter. Most of the 'frustration' will be in timing jumps and judging distances so you don't die on landing. This is nowhere near as unforgiving as, say, Jump King, which I've seen a good number of streamers smash their controllers and keyboards apart while playing in one of those 'gamer rage compilation' videos.
You had me at "you can save anywhere, anytime" :D

I wonder if they implemented the end boss that was supposed to be in the original game but had to be left out because of RAM limitations.
Nice! Along with Digger, Raster Blaster, and Frogger, The PC Booter was one of the first PC games I played on our family's Leading Edge XT clone. The beeps and boops from the PC speaker from jumping, when you collected items, and when you fell in fire will forever be burned in my memory.

I was quite frustrated when we eventually upgraded to a 386DX-16 several years later. The game still ran but it was so fast it was impossible to play! Alas, turbo buttons did not become ubiquitous until slightly later. :(
The most amazing thing about this game, is how people outside of Mexico still get the name MOCTEZUMA wrong. For the same reason you don't write Georye Wachingtan, instead of George Washington, you don't change the "c" for an "n".

Not yet. There will be a "Director's Cut" version which will include him, but the game will be released as a separate product, not as an upgrade/DLC.

Here's the trailer, but the December 2023 release date is no longer true. The release has been postponed to Q1/Q2 2024:

I hope we can get Montezuma's Return as well. I love that game.
I've found a bug in the "Retro" mode. After losing all the lives the question appears: "Do you want to post your score to GOG ?". No matter what I click or press - the pop-up stays on the screen - and the only way to get rid of it is to close the game.

Motēcuhzōma Xōcoyōtzin (Moctezuma II.) means "he looks gloomy like a prince" in Nahuatl.
His byname Xocoyotzin means "the younger", and was used to distinguish him from his predecessor Motēcuhzōma Ilhuicamīna (Moctezuma I.)

The name gradually changed from "Motecuzoma" to "Moctezuma" and later to "Montezuma" through phono-semantic harmonisation and simplification.
I remember I still need to get the Master System version.
Looks good! Purchase scheduled for tomorrow :)

An N has absolutely nothing to do with a C; don't inform me about my own culture.

Apparently, your own culture changed the name already, before the "n" came into play...

Effectively, an N has nothing to do with a C. There is no harmony between them, that's a convenient way of deforming words. Apparently you are German, I am not going to say Sagfried instead of Siegfried, just because a few low IQ think it's harmonious to deform words, especially when cultural figures are concerned.

That's another important point, my culture, not yours.
