Outrunning oppression.

Mirror's Edge™, the energetic free-running action game with the striking visual design, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com, with a 50% launch discount.

The gleaming, utopian appearance of the city cannot fool Faith. She's seen how things are run around here, with everyday activity being monitored closely and sensitive pieces of information constantly changing hands high above the oblivious citizens. Now her sister is being framed for a crime she didn't commit and Faith must employ every bit of her resourcefulness and parkour talents to run the rooftops, avoid the authorities, and expose the truth.
The revolutionary first-person running mechanics and intense hand-to-hand combat make Mirror's Edge™ into a spectacular action romp, boosted by its pristine aesthetics and unmatched sense of flow. Leap, climb, race, and slide across the dangerous cityscape, always staying mindful of your surroundings and occasionally being ready to flee rather than fight, when the situation grows desperate.

Navigate Faith through high-speed chases atop the city's skyscrapers and discover what's hiding behind the Mirror's Edge™, DRM-free on GOG.com.
The 50% discount will last until September 29, 12:59 PM UTC.

Zoidberg: Wow!

That's a lost sale from me then. Good job EA!

JKeift: So you refuse to buy from a publisher that sets fair prices according to the average income of each specific region, among other factors. That's like me saying I'm not buying any more games because Russians get even better prices than I do. Forgive me if I consider that attitude to be a little entitled and selfish.
And you deciding what price others should be happy to buy games isn't entitled and selfish maybe?

This isn't food or basic needs fufilling, this is luxury and also cultural products.

Someone being happy and content that some pay more for such things is really despicable.

So go bother someone else sir, I do not give a flying crap about what you think on the matter.

Besides, the game is sold half on Steam, so your "argument" is double moot.

tldr ?

Get bent!

Nice game but not for everyone. People who suffer from motion sickness might not like this game. ;)

Back in the days this kind of gameplay was innovative but today there are also a lot other games with much more gameplay than just running around parkour style. See for example Dying Light.

damien: obviously the best of today's releases. does anyone know how this one compares to console versions?
avatar
barleyguy: I have the same question. I actually own this on PS3, but will buy it again for my GOG collection if it's a better version.

Also, will all of you PLEASE quit bitching about the price? Seriously, I spent $6 on beverages yesterday, and it's not like we're comparing apples to apples since this is the only place you can get this DRM Free. I really don't like it when a thread turns to a bunch of people whining about a $5 price difference when we could be discussing the quality of the actual game. </rant off>
Why isn't this post upvoted more? :-P

For that 9 euro you get a lot of entertainment. Going to the movies is more expensive...

I like the game. I've played it through twice (Steam version), first with normal(?) difficulty, and later with the hardest difficulty (was it so that the hardest difficulty wasn't unlocked until you have finished the game once?).

Yeah the game wasn't that long, but it still took me several days to finish on my first playthrough. I guess I was checking out places so much. On my second playthrough on a higher difficulty, it took me only one day to finish it, largely because I already knew what to do where (the routes to your next destination).

There isn't much of replay value in the game. Even though you are running around in a city, it is still quite a linear game, you don't usually have that many choices how to proceed.

I liked how combat was implemented. Occasionally it made sense to take a gun from an enemy and shoot another one with it, but generally you couldn't rely on guns. First of all, keeping one in your hand meant you couldn't climb etc. Also IIRC the protagonist always throws away a weapon when she runs out of ammo, so it is not like you are carrying a gun all the time either. It was quite satisfying to get close to a gun-wielding enemy and taking the gun from him.

Even with its low replay value (linearity), I might play it through third time at some point. Nice to have it on GOG, this is one game I like to archive (DRM-free). Yeah the pricing is what it is considering this was part of some EA Humble Bundle as well, but oh well. The price of one or few beers, I guess.

Oh, about the controls: IMHO it is fully playable both with XInput (XBox360) gamepads as well as keyboard+mouse. I first started playing it with a gamepad, but in the end I felt I liked kb+m more because of better aiming, which DOES matter also when trying to do precise jumping in an angle.

catpower1980: I just installed the game and launched it and the time trials are available in the menu but you apparently need a EA account to access them. Fresh screenshot below.
avatar
markrichardb: That would be kind of a deal breaker for me because the game doesn't really get started until the time trials. All those soldiers in the story mode just got in the way of what Mirror's Edge was about - Faith is an artist, and the pristine white rooftops are her canvas.
But if you played the time trials you already have an EA-account, right? o.O
What has happened to the pricing structure of the retro releases on GOG?

Well, I never said what others should pay, my original post was only thanking GOG and EA for giving us regional prices in my country (i.e., what I pay). So your post reeks of reading comprehension problems and anger management issues. Best of luck with that.

Contracts happened. Some people got this idea that the 10 dollars max price GOG had for older games could somehow be set in stone. It certainly would be nice but big companies such as EA say otherwise.

I'm a fan of this game and I installed it time and time again throughout the years, on various machines and configurations. The Origin version comes with Securom and has a limited number of activations (5 or so). Every now and then I'd run out of activations and had to contact EA's Origin live chat support, who are actually dudes from India who had trouble understanding what my problem was and why I required more activations. Last time this happened when I changed my video card.

I'm glad to see a DRM-free version of this game, they should have removed that copy-protection crap a long time ago.

I wonder if the GOG release includes the Pure TIme Trials DLC.
It's great that we can choose between DRM and DRM-free Mirror's Edge now, but at the discounted price it's only slightly cheaper than Steam's non-discounted price. Steam's recent sales haven't been very enticing, but it might still get cheaper than on GoG and I don't mind modern games with DRM.

it's been a while since i've played mirror's edge, but i've been playing dying light over the past few months and it's parkour is just so smooth. i wonder how they stack up against one another parkour-wise?

GreatEmerald: As for the price, I don't care, DRM-free is the base criterion for me. If it aint DRM-free, it doesn't exist nowadays.
I feel the same, but unfortunately I think I'm probably around 98% faithful with that these days. I did buy Dragon Age Inquisition, and if the reviews are really good I may get Agents of MAYHEM.

I haven't purchased anything on Steam in a while, not even during the last two or three big sales. I think I'm done with those impulse buys there during the big sales. Oh, I did get the Arkham Knight bundle through Bundle Stars, but I doubt the Arkham games will make it here anytime soon.

ped7g: So much about price, and nobody moans about lack of linux? *frown*
avatar
adamhm: AFAIK there's no Linux version of this and since it was released in 2009 there's little chance of one being made.
Well, KOTOR II is from 2004, and it got a Linux port! :-)
So, even old games get a port occasionally, if they are popular enough...
(OTOH, it's EA we're talking about - do they have even one game on Linux?)

sims 2 or 3 any time soon ?

NoNewTaleToTell: They better not!...I just bought three or four of the expansion packs on Steam a day or two ago :P

Seriously though, I'd love a "complete/deluxe/game of the year/etc" edition for The Sims 3.
i might like a complete edition of the sims 3
but for some vauge reason my pc struggles with sims 3 pets

my pc is ludicrously over qualified !

Uh, no. This game is Unreal Engine 3. It won't get a native port without remaking the entire engine, and that's not happening.
