What is HuniePop? It's a game kickstarted by thousands of fans. It's a "gameplay-first" dating sim. It's a match-three puzzle game. It's really popular.

In the world of HuniePop, you're just a loser. But yet another lonely night at a local dive-bar is about to change your life - or rather, it's the freaky love fairy you tried to hit on. She's going to help you out with the power of addictive puzzle gameplay. Mature content notice: HuniePop contains explicit language, strong sexual themes, partial nudity and is intended for mature audiences.

Fesin: Yes, there is: They just don't need to put them in their store. Steam opened the floodgates on pretty much every single game, even unfinished, unplayable trash that has been thrown together with assets from Unity. This has nothing to do with HuniePop.

grumblycakes: I hope you're right but it seems to me once you decide you're store is for an adult game where the goal is to pursue a bunch of generic anime chicks with shiny boobs then you're already setting yourself up for more of the same kind. These things sell so it wouldn't surprise me if the front page of GOG will look like the front page of sankaku complex one year from now.
I don't think so. I think the buyer's base is really different between Steam and GOG. Remember that Steam is hugely more popular than GOG for the moment, and most of all, that games on Steam are not curated like they are here. Which means that, provided they comply to basic guidelines, almost everybody can publish a game on Steam, when here in GOG the game has to go through filters.

But, frankly speaking, I would be all for a "mature" section of games here on GOG. Maybe it would make some developers care to produce good mature games, and HuniePop is one of them.

dick1982: will it be banned in germany and australia?
Germany has no problem with nudity. Nudity just means you have to be 18. Germany HAD a problem with too much violence in the past, but now they even allow games like Mortal Kombat to be sold with a normal 18 rating. To get your game banned, you'll have to add some Nazi symbols or heavily glorify violence (more than Mortal Kombat - good luck).

amok: may be, but I do hope that in the long run it will also make it possible for games like Bejeweled 2, Puzzle Quest, Heroes of Hellas 3, Jewels of Cleopatra, The Treasures of Montezuma 3, Runefall etc. All very good games, but previous I guess they would be "too casual" to be here. This changes things?
avatar
P1na: It changes thing in the same way as triple town did, I suppose.
good point....

Senteria: I don't need to have it uncensored per se, but I just don't like censoring things in any form or shape.
But some things cannot be unseen. xD

omega64: It is the censored version, the developers provide a patch on their site.

dick1982: will it be banned in germany and australia?
I bought it directly from their site so I doubt it. Or is that meant to be a smart ass comment?
Since I have the game on humble bundle because I bought it through the dev's website, I thought i'd pick up the soundtrack and art thingy here. Turns out I can't.

"Please note that you are required to own HuniePop on GOG.com to be able to purchase and play HuniePop - Deluxe Edition Upgrade "

It's not an upgrade, it's a goodiebag. All it contains is the soundtrack and art. =\

Buenro-games: Is this for Mature Audiences only because the young girl smokes cigarettes? I don't think that shocks me that much.
avatar
Senteria: Because of nudity. Then again, this game is the censored version. I already got the uncensored version. :)

@gog people: Who made the decission for it to release it here censored. You guys or the dev? Just curious

I don't need to have it uncensored per se, but I just don't like censoring things in any form or shape.
'the censored version'.... why??? I know the uncensored stuff is a little dirty but hey, they're just pictures. Your last line sums my thoughts.

i heard aussies and britons have been throwing people in jail for "paedophilic" material like this.

Should be correct, yes. Unless someone changes the law again. But if the authors says, the (fictional) person is 18 years of age, who will prove the opposite?

We have seen such changes in a certain manga that has been released in Germany in the past, for example.

Yes. The drawn little children suffered tremendously so that's understandable.

You can buy all kinds of hentai stuff in Germany in adult video stores. And since the girls always look like 12 years olds with monster breasts... Well, yes, I think it's okay.

amok: Well, this is a good release, if just to make all those people in that Hatred campaign threads shutting up about gOg being in the pockets of Social Justice Warriors ©®

(thread derailed).
I don't see what explicit content has to do with social justice. More generally, I don't see what sex related things have to do with social justice unless there is exploitation involved (ex: people being forced into prostitution by poverty or rape).

For progressives, there is no relation there.

A lot of the internet-tumblr-feminist crowd (aka "Social Justice Warriors") is extremely sex negative and views every kind of sexual portrayal of women as exploitative. The HuniePop developers got attacked a lot from these circles.
