Tiny Bang Story, Morphopolis, plus the Enigmatis and Nightmares from the Deep trilogies.

Who doesn't love the look of a messy room, devilishly concealing all the important items when you need them the most? That guilty pleasure of rummaging around for your car keys, wallet, or that grotesque ivory ornament which unlocks the secrets to the family curse, is what Hidden Object Games are all about!
We kick off their arrival on GOG.COM with a fine selection that was hiding in plain sight and some purty 70% discounts until August 10th, 1pm UTC.

Tiny Bang Story takes place on a lovely planet thrown into disarray after an unfortunate clash with a total jerk of a meteor. Help fix it by solving quirky puzzles and scouring hand-drawn screens for objects of interest.

The Enigmatis trilogy begins on the spooky streets of Maple Creek, a place overflowing with secrets, tragedy, and hidden knickknacks! Disoriented and confused after being hit by a furious storm, you must steel your nerves and stay focused on finding that missing girl.

Morphopolis is an evocative puzzle adventure set in an almost-psychedelic forest undergrowth full of curious insects. Gorgeous exploration and fascinating discoveries await.

Ghost ships, doomed romance, pirate treasure, and items in need of finding make up the Nightmares from the Deep trilogy, a chilling tale straight from Davy Jones' locker.

Was referring to VNs as pedophile games (don't remember exact wording)

HunchBluntley: I read that post before the edit (didn't even realize there had been an edit until you pointed it out), and while it was a crude, disingenuous thing to say: (1) it was a far cry from the expletive-filled rant Linko mentioned, and (2) yogsloth wasn't even talking shit about HOGs.
You're not wrong.
avatar
Catshade: Nice.

Now with HOGs on GOG, we might see a deluge of more sensible, casual gamers in this forum.
avatar
viperfdl: Well, It definitely means that the average estrogens level in the forum will rise...
Why, do only women play HOGs?
I quite like HOGs

I'd love to see the "I Spy" series of games released here. Our kids loved them. Unfortunately they old, dated and need a lot of work to get running on new machines.

A quick look at these releases they seem HOG lite, not screens filled with dozens of strategically place objects which is a shame.
avatar
Green_Shade: Also casual gamers, such as adults and even seniors. All of the hidden object lovers that I've met are 50-80. Though I don't interact with many kids in my field of work.
avatar
ciemnogrodzianin: From what I've heard these are "games for housewives" :D
Yeah, though not even limited by gender, I've met plenty of men who like them too. Though there are a lot of women who do.
Great move GOG! I like HOG's and look forward to some great titles appearing here.

I enjoy the puzzles and the casual gameplay.
I must be dreaming....
No need anymore to bashfully admit that I play HOGs.
Now there is no need anymore to buy steamed bundles with plenty of reruns. (Sorry Zeo, less left-over keys for the community GA.)
And I'm astonished and pleased to see, how many GOG gamers are positive about this addition to the GOG shop.

The only negative thing I have to say is that I already own all of today's releases.
Nevertheless - it's always nice to have a GOG backup.
Bought.

I hope one of the next stations for the GOG train will be called "Patience" city, or "Mahjong" village, why not "Picross" junction...

Oh no ... the shovel ware cometh to Gog !

BranjoHello: ....unlike those bullshit things that people buy just for anime girls with big tits in tight clothes to support some weird fantasies. Don't like being judgemental, and I generally like weird things, but the line of good taste has to exist somewhere, which isn't the case in above mentioned pieces of software.
Just because I am curious (don't want to provoke you or anything like that) but have you ever tried any of those "non games"? Not every VN consists of sex and pretty anime girls with big tits. There's actually a story behind many of those and the characters can be written quite good. I tried the free one on GOG and was pleaseantly surprised. I also tried a demo of Shining Starnova ... again surprised. Enough to buy another one. I agree that there are plenty of VNs available with a certain target group but that is not true for every single one of them. If you don't like anime at all however I am sure you won't like it.
avatar
yukiai01: Great games.
As soon as i find some money i will buy them all.
It's often hidden under the cushions ;)

(Sorry, could not resist)

Enebias: Also, by the way, I hate cheese as well. All of it, even mozzarella. Disgusting.
Sorry, but now I HAVE to unfriend you. ;)

Been there done that.

You were pointing the Community each day to a new free one so that kind of gave it away ;)

No Gog Connect ? ;)

Anyway nice move Gog .

I'd like to see these two games next on the front page :

Interesting. Hopefully that'll also mean we'll see some more actual honest-to-goodness (arcade) puzzlers like Triple Town, Star Vikings, or Super Puzzle Platformer.

Is there any particular reason why The Tiny Bang Story doesn't have the Mac/Linux version?

MarkoH01: Marko was curious
Sure, I'll indulge your curiosity. Even though I don't play them, I have nothing against VNs just like I don't have nothing against walking simulators or HOGs. I do have a lot against tasteless bullshit, and that is what I mentioned in previous post.
Animes are certainly not bullshit, I watched many of those and I even love some of them with my whole heart, like Princess Mononoke that is a timeless piece of art that should be shown to every human being on this planet. And since we're talking games here, I could mention To The Moon as well, as it's a wonderful little game with one of the best stories I encountered in my long gaming "career" (yes, there were tears, I'm not ashamed to admit).
I don't have to try heroin to know that it's bad. It's the same with those "games" I spit on (even though I'm not comparing them to heroin, it's just an example).

Thank you for the explanation. So my point stands: not all VNs are just "tasteless bullshit" as you called it - only a few of them even have such stuff in it at all. So maybe you should not condemn them completely - especially if you don't have problems with the anime style (yeah, Ghibli btw :)).

Oh wow, I used to play tons of HOGs, as gameplay is easy, they're fun games when you just want to do a bit of gaming without having to think too much and, most of the time, the artwork is gorgeous.

Happy to see HOGs on GOG.

A very cool move. Thanks!!!
avatar
llamas: I've been interested in trying a hidden object game. I've heard good things about the Drawn series so I hope those show up eventually.
I've played a lot of HOGs over the years, and the Drawn series are some of the standouts.

Definitely grab them if they ever show up on GOG.
avatar
xKeiro: Wooho! I hope that we are going to see more Artifex Mundi games on GOG, they are pretty good!

Edit: But please keep these hidden object games heavily curated, there are way too many junk in this genre.
avatar
Experiment513: Totally agree with this post. There's a lot of crap out there too so please indeed heavily curation! :)

I wouldn't mind the Big Fish Mystery Case Files collection. ;)
I'll add my vote for that. It's a very good collection of games. Would love to see them on GOG.
