Hello darkness, my old friend.

<span class="bold">Downfall: Redux</span>, the bold reimagining of the twisted horror adventure game, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% launch discount. Buyers will also get the original Downfall for free.

Sustaining a healthy marriage through the years can be an uphill battle. Joe and Ivy thought they could pull it off but now the cracks are beginning to show. Joe books them a romantic getaway to the Quiet Haven Hotel, convinced that they can still fix this. But his wife is behaving strangely, as though she doesn't even want them to try. And this place.. The Quiet Haven Hotel is not at all how Joe had imagined it. Or perhaps it is exactly like that.

Downfall: Redux is a completely overhauled retelling of Joe Davis' bloody, desperate struggle to win back his wife. Like in the haunting The Cat Lady, the adult themes, the grotesque images, and the macabre story will stay with you long after your visit at the Quiet Haven Hotel has come to its disturbing end. And as with every gripping nightmare, you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.

Dive into the abyss and swim alongside your most unspeakable nightmares as you descent into <span class="bold">Downfall: Redux</span>, DRM-free on GOG.com. Everyone who buys the game will also receive Downfall(2009) for free. Those who already own the original will find a 50% discount code for Downfall: Redux in their library. The code will be added to Downfall(2009) in your shelf and can be redeemed until March 15.
The 10% discount will also last until March 15, 4:59 PM GMT.

Dalthnock: I had that concern too & addressed it in my first post.

But then they had someone show up, blatantly saying that they "convinced" the guy to remake the game so their "working relationship wouldn't suffer", because they were making no money from the original game.

What else do you want?

I mean, I'd applaud the the sheer lack of shame, but all of this was buried under the poorest marketspeak I've read to date, so you'll forgive me if I feel a little nauseous.

But you go ahead & applaud. Positivity is a great thing, sure.
What shame? It's a complete remake, artworks, voice-over, music... all that costs money. And you're free to love it, hate it, ignore it. And if you loved the original game - hey you can give it now to all your friends, because it's now free.
If it was about the money I still think "The new game by the maker of..." would have been a better idea, but who knows what happened behind the scenes? Maybe it wasn't possible (depression, blockade...), who knows?

All I know is, it's not EA Sports Game Retextured Edition 2016 for full price and people have put a lot of effort into it. For me that justifies the equivalent of a pack of cigs and a beer. For you it might not, or the money means much more where you live.

mrkgnao: I still don't understand why they had to remove the original game from the catalogue.
It's now free. From the dev's page.

Yeah, I own the original (direct from the dev and again from here) and I think %50 off is a bad joke.

%75 off and I'd buy it again here...but 7.50? kiss my ass

And I don't understand why you're puzzled - is it the first time?

I'm inclined to think that Dalthnock may have a point - I speculate that the agreement on the release of the Redux version here may prohibit the original being available in any other fashion than as an extra of this version. And extras don't get their own page.

EGADS!

Was this a potshot from a German to a Portuguese? The lords of Europe are sneering at the "lazy southern countries"?

We COULD expand on this, for a laugh... but I suspect it wouldn't take long until other people joined in & things heated up to the point where there would be a huge round of bannings.

I bet the sheer havoc would be hilarious enough to make it all worth it, though.
Anyways ;P if it's like toxicTom says and they put a lot of effort into the remake and give out the original for free on the dev page, then it's all good isn't it? Nothing reprehensible in that, I believe.

But, this isn't the issue here, is it? While you guys talk about the game, I've been researching english toilet talk. And now I have "questions":
Don't go in there! <- Is that acceptable as an command not to enter the room, or does it really just imply one should hold out, until he finds a more suitable place (or rather any other place) before "shaking the dew off the lily"?

Quite fascinating really: Looking in the imdb I found not one but two movies called "Don't go in the Woods" and while they are both horror flicks, I really can't discern from the Synopsis, whether all the dying starts after someone relieved himself near a tree or simply on entering the wrong forest.. ;)

So is go in or into a place, really that big a difference?

mrkgnao: This game seems to have a library game ID different from the catalogue game ID. MaGog needs the library game ID in order to scan its files report changes.

If you happen to have a bought the game and have a wiki account, please upload your library to the wiki and let me know, so I can update MaGog's tables.

Cheers.
Wiki updated :D

Edit: I don't see it on the wiki page after updating *chin stroke*

I was half-sarcastic. Of course it's normal GOG procedure, which I nevertheless don't understand despite repeated attempts.

Still I find it in poor taste to remove a game that costs $5 and replace it with a pair of games that cost together $14, and not leave the option to buy only the original.

In that case, I really fail to understand why they couldn't have made it free here too.

See. You're so aggravated.

I only stated that I don't know if the price asked is a lot of money for you. Prices, wages, living costs do differ in the all so cozy unified Europe. Hell, they differ inside of Germany quite a lot.
I said, for me it's a pack of cigarettes and a beer. Because I'm a smoker and I drink a lot of beer, I convert entertainment cost into that. More expensive stuff (like the ~400€ for Cirque du Soleil for the four of us) is compared to Single Malt.

I don't get what you're mad at. I'm no master of Europe and don't want to be. I hate Merkel and her clique and I thing austerity the the biggest dead-end they invented (I have it more with modern Keynesians). And I think the responsible people in the mass media should be tarred and feathered for what they did to the Greek (Portugal and Spain were mainly ignored, Italy got a little cover, also bad).

It seems to me you are a very angry person. Preparing to jump at the slightest thing you can see as a provocation. That makes for some really ugly wrinkles when you get old. Try to work on it. :-)

Actually I'd be really interested to learn more about different slang (mis- ab- use)... and the intricacies of the English language in all it's variants general. Might be interesting for native speaker from different regions too.

Care to make a seperate thread?

Perhaps the legacy shelf display has some issue, because toxicTom also uploaded his library and his game is visible (but he uses the new shelf format, not the legacy).
Seems like the original game from 2009. is free here. None the less, i'm putting Redux version on wishlist since The Cat Lady was awesome. :)

Marketing. Bonus sounds good. Openly free might compete with the new one. Questions is, GOG's reasons, publisher's reasons or both.
If someone WHO DID NOT OWN THE ORIGINAL ON GOG buys this, do let me know because I want to find out:

1) Does the original come for you as a bonus in the Redux's box or as a box by itself?
2) Does the original come for you with the soundtrack and wallpaper or not?

EDIT: Already answered by Judas.

I could tell you, but I feel I've milked this for all it's worth, already. Besides, you know the answer. :D

Actually, *that* is my sense of humour & it took me quite a while to come up with a post that didn't read as an attack on you, because not only that wasn't my intention, I wasn't sure if you're used to more aggressive, offensive humour.

Don't worry, nothing you have said has so much as ruffled me in the slightest.

It'd be damn near impossible for me to get angry at a regular poster.

1. Separate box on your shelf for the original.
2. Yes, it comes with the original goodies it came with.

So was I. We need to do something about that, me thinks.

Can anyone who did not own the original from before clarify if the original comes with any of the extras it had or if it's just the game installer?
If the latter it's way beyond poor taste, imho.
