Blizzard Entertainment and GOG.COM have teamed up to rerelease select classic Blizzard games, beginning with Diablo®, Blizzard’s legendary 1996 action role-playing game that introduced players to the harsh—and deeply rewarding—world of Sanctuary.

The original Diablo® is available now via digital distribution for the first time ever on GOG.COM. Players looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.

Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, and a host of bug fixes. Players can choose either version of the game from a launcher.

Senteria: Interestingly enough the witcher 2 sold and the witcher 1 sold more copies on GOG than the witcher 3? Does games given away by GOG count as 'games sold'?
probably.

PainOfSalvation: Diablo got released 3 days ago and it already reached page 4 of all-time best selling games on GOG with spot #179. I wonder how long will it take to hit the page 1? >:D

It counts by the number of copies, so yes, even free giveaways boost the game at the top. In addition, we must not forget that the first and second parts are on sale longer, which also affects.
Diablo will almost certainly reach the first page, but hardly in the first week. In addition, on the first page are very strong "rivals", including those who have aged very well. For example, HoMM 3 is still perfect in gameplay plans, and only graphics have aged.
Diablo, despite the excellent atmosphere and style, still aged not only graphically, but also gameplay. This is the grandfather of the genre, but the genre did not stand still.
In any case, I think sooner or later Diablo will reach the first page (and deservedly so).

Are you sure about that? Pages 59 (bottom half) through 62 are all free. I find it hard to believe that free games like Jill of the Jungle moved fewer copies than (say) the Textorcist soundtrack.

I said "free giveaways", not "always free". Always free games are not counted. They are always at the end.

Okay.
Whichever people at GoG and/or Blizzard Entertainment were responsible for this release? You have the undying gratitude and thanks of all those who had to resort to 3rd party bloated-price CD sales online. Now we can (legally) play one of the grandfathers of the Action-RPG genre.

Fun Fact: Diablo 1 was meant to be a turn-based game very early in development; rather than rewriting everything, the animations were just sped-up significantly as to give the illusion of 'real time' combat.

Noishkel: Very very cool. But that said, I'd be wwaayy more into being able to buy the original StarCraft here than buying Diablo.
avatar
Benjamin_Nawrocki: starcraft will probally never be on here. because its been remaster by blizzard its also avalibale by them.
Oh sure, I'm not expecting them to ever do offer it here. But one can dream. |3

vv221: Diablo 2 is a real time sink, Diablo 1 on the other hand is quite short. A single solo playthrough can easily be completed in a couple days only.
avatar
chevkoch: Right, maybe D1 would scratch the itch... but then, since Diablo dropped here I've been thinking about the grand old time I've had with my Necromancer build in D2. Must. Not. Install. I need to step outside I guess, look at trees and birds and shit to ground myself again. Jesus.
You do realize that Median XL Sigma is out? Best Diablo 2 mod in existence.?! :D

darkangelz: I'm Disturbed, by this >.<.
avatar
tinyE: That cover is awful . XD
I really like Disturbed but man, they laid a turd there. They drained all the life out of that song.

Now that I think of it, I've never heard a really good cover of a Simon and Garfunkel song. Maybe it's the material itself.
Simon and Garfunkel's songs are nothing less than perfect. Which is why they are next to impossible to cover without fucking it up.
Yeah, that's great... except I'm on a Mac, so I still cant play it. Super -_-

There's always WINE.
I'm playing Diablo 1 with HD mod with it right now, although on Linux.

Native multi-platform would have been nice though (I'd have bought it even at that price) and the tools are practically all there.

Why do you people have Mac's? They are old and outdated useless machines that don't have the variety of playing any games at all. Geez.
low rated
Now I'm 99% sure Blizzard will remaster D1 (in a D1/2 remastered bundle?). Blizzard is making profit on this old version it's not much but every extra profit is fine.

You might think: "Why isn't Blizzard releasing it by themself?"

Answer is simple. GoG will get the blame when D1 remaster is released. People will feel ripped off because they just bought the 90's version on GoG and now have to get the remaster as well, which will be of course much player-friendly than this one.

And Blizzard will be laughing because they are making some profit of this version, but are not the one who ripped off the D1 fans. They had a reason for not putting it on their own store, and you (and GoG) took the bait.

Ignoring your other ridiculous blabla, I would never buy a remaster, only the original...which I did. So no "bait taken".
Really incredible, a must-have.
