Compatible with your own tracks & USB dance pad!

<span class="bold">Crypt of the NecroDancer</span>, a musical roguelike dungeon crawler with GOG Galaxy integration for Windows and Mac OS X, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 33% launch discount.

Dance, dance, dance the night away. Dance the evil ghosts and skeletons into loot puree. Crypt of the NecroDancer is one of the weirdest games you will ever play, and not because it’s filled to the brim with sporks and quirky tweens. It's a rhythm-based roguelike that has you matching a song's beat to beat the crap out of baddies. It's a straightforward experience that sounds like one of the most innovative things in gaming, but it's not just a gimmick as underneath the notes and tunes you'll find a full-fledged roguelike with plenty of loot, replayability and challenge. Crypt of the NecroDancer let's you import your own music as well, so can you beat it on Through the Fire and Flames?

Practice at home, at work, or on the bus, with the two bonus soundtracks: the original Danny Baranowsky tracks, and Extended Soundtrack (in two remixed versions, by A_Rival and FamilyJules7X) all available in extreme FLAC, and optimal MP3!

For even more NecroDancer digital-swag, check out the extras pack with a behind-the-scenes Director's Cut video, super-high-res Dance Pad covers, and a bunch of other random stuff.

Got questions for the developers? You’re in luck - Ryan and Heather from Brace Yourself Games will be hanging out on the forums on Monday, August 17th, for a special Q&A session from 8 to 10pm GMT (10pm-12am CEST, 4-6pm EDT, 1-3pm PST) to answer all your pressing questions about the game, the life behind game development, or their favorite cat video of all time.

Unleash your killer dance moves in <span class="bold">Crypt of the NecroDancer</span> with GOG Galaxy support for Achievements and Leaderboards. So dance! Dance the dance of the NecroDancer DRM-free on GOG.com! The launch discount will last for one week, until Thursday, August 20, 12:59 PM GMT.

Why do we "need" Galaxy in the first place? *sigh*

Stupid clients.
I really, really dig the pixel art in this game! Good job devs!
This looks nice, I could stand to move a little bit, maybe shed a few pounds, become even hotter (if that's even possible).

I especially like that you can use music from your own collection, but how the hell am I supposed to dance to this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSppp7wi27E

I suppose that in some bits I could pirouette the monsters to death with all the grace & elegance of a rhinoceros...

This is a huge oversight on the part of the developers. By not catering to us snooty musical snobs, you *may* be missing out on 0,01% of your sales OR LESS!

My suggestion is to come up with some sort of device that allows us to wave our hands idly in the air as if conducing a non-existent orchestra very poorly, while we sniff our glasses of fine brandy.

Tolya: What you are experiencing is a rare bug in the galaxy system. I would be grateful if you could contact support and give them exact details on how you can reproduce this problem.

We did not experience this problem anywhere during pre-release QA. Once we can reproduce the bug here we can work on fixing this, as the game should (and does) run without galaxy client present on the system.
I'm also experiencing this. Using the standalone installer downloaded directly from my GoG Library web page rather than the Downloader. I don't have the GoG Galaxy client installed, yet attempting to run either the desktop shortcut to the "NecroDancer.exe" or the executable itself from within its install folder results in Windows 8.1's mouse cursor pointer turning into the whirling blue "wait" icon for a bit, then nothing.

Checking the "Background Processes" of Task Manager during an attempted executable launch shows the "NecroDancer.exe (32 bit)" icon appear briefly, then disappear, while the "GalaxyCommunicationService (32 bit)" icon also appears but stays. Even though I've not had GoG Galaxy installed on this machine in weeks.

The "logs" folder of the game has a separate text file within it for each attempt to run the game's executable. Each one reads "GoG: Initializing galaxy API", even though the GoG Galaxy client isn't installed.

* Both the game and previous installation of GoG Galaxy were on a separate drive to my operating system. I'm not attempting to install and run them from any Program Files or other protected folder.

* I've tried running the game executable as an administrator, with no effect.

* UAC isn't and never has been on for the lifetime of this Windows installation.

I would like:

1. Instruction in how to ensure that all of the GoG Galaxy client is completely removed from my PC.
2. If this fails to remedy the problem, a refund for the cost of the game and its removal from my GoG library, please.

Many thanks.

The game will not run for me either. I used to have Galaxy installed before I uninstalled it a while ago. Not really keen on the idea of installing Galaxy again just to run this game - kinda defeats the purpose of an optional client. I hope this issue gets sorted out quickly.
Looking forward to a DRM-free Linux version.

Yes, I understood. I meant if you pay for everything now they will charge for everything in the future. So DON'T pay for everything now.... Gosh

BAZ: I own this game on steam, and the ammount of content is so very small.
Just a warning to those that like good investments with content vs price.

Sure the games music is catchy and its a nice game idea, but that can't save the game for me.
It really feels like a demo to me, with how little game content there is.
I take it you're one of the 2 people that's completed all the content then? Including Coda?

mistermumbles: WARNING: Currently Galaxy needs to be installed to run the game.

Grabbed the game via the Downloader, and after installing was perplexed why it wouldn't run when I tried to start the game from either shortcut or the actual executable. A bit nosing around in the game folder and due to an earlier mention in this here thread I saw that weird log folder within that kept mentioning that the game was trying to initialize Galaxy's API, but I didn't have the latter installed. After I installed Galaxy the game ran fine even without Galaxy running.

Still, I shouldn't have to have Galaxy installed at all to run this game. GOG needs to fix this ASAP.

Edit: Hm. After closer inspection of the logs again it may have opted to run through Steam API, even though that wasn't running either. WTF?!? Either give me an untethered game or I shall ask for a refund.

This is not what I was paying for. I also blame the devs who seem to be hung up on forcing one client or another to run this game.

cyboff: I made a small test - uninstalled Galaxy, downloaded setup_crypt_of_the_necrodancer_2.0.0.1.exe via browser link and game works just fine for me...

log looks like this:
--------------------------------------------------------
WINDOW SUCCESSFULLY INITIALIZED
NecroDancer version v1.12 loading...
OnCreate: Initializing Steam
GoG: Initializing galaxy API
OnCreate: Updating screen size
Updating screen size: 960x540

OnCreate: Setting update rate
GLOBAL_SCALE_FACTOR: 2.0

so yes, it's trying to initialize Steam and GOG Galaxy, but when they are not found, game runs just fine without client too....
It shouldn't be forced to run. Using Galaxy as an easier content provider and not as a DRM like client... meh... I sincerely HOPE this is fixed when it releases...

Ah, sorry about that.
Greetings everybody!

I have a question regarding a technicality: is it possible to buy the sole OST and play it WITHOUT having bought the game? I know it says "you need the [game]" to "play" all three DLCs - I just want to be sure whether the core game is necessary or not to download those extras. Thanks a lot!

No. You can't even buy it. GOG prevents you from buying DLCs (even soundtracks) if you do not own the game on GOG. You can test it by putting the game in your cart and attempting to checkout.

No. GOG is foolish and hates money.
Seriously, though, these items are set up as DLC, meaning that you can't purchase them -- except as a gift -- without owning the base game, nor can you redeem a gift code for any of them without owning the base game. "This is a totally sensible way to set things up," said no one, ever.

On a related note,

JudasIscariot:
the gamecard for the base game contains a very misleading bit of info that should probably be removed A.S.A.P.:

BONUS: Includes 2 playable remixes of the entire soundtrack. A metal remix by FamilyJules7X and an EDM remix by A_Rival!
And no, I don't think most people would consider paid DLC to be "bonus" content. EDIT: Unless the aforementioned text refers to versions of these remixes of the OST that are accessible via gameplay only -- in which case, this should be made clear.

EDIT:
[sigh] It apparently took me at least a quarter-hour to compose the previous part of this post. I can't even bring myself to call mrkgnao's reply a "ninja". Is there a term for the opposite? Like when you take so long to compose a post, the entire conversation has ended already? Or shall I have to coin such a term myself?

I believe the term is "nonja" (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=nonja).

Nah, that's no good. That seems to mean "opposite" in terms of stealth -- loud and/or awkward. I'm looking for "opposite" in terms of speed -- glacially slow. But you've got the right idea -- somebody has probably already defined such a thing on Urban Dictionary; the problem would be sorting through all the chaff (and there is SO MUCH CHAFF) to find the relevant term...which was probably defined and voted on by no more than five people.
The best I can think up myself off the top of my head is "slowpost"...you know, like "slowpoke". (That is...not so good, I know....)

Also, just to be clear, I was mocking myself in that post, not you. : )

EDIT: removed unnecessary 'of'
