Compatible with your own tracks & USB dance pad!

Crypt of the NecroDancer, a musical roguelike dungeon crawler with GOG Galaxy integration for Windows and Mac OS X, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 33% launch discount.

Dance, dance, dance the night away. Dance the evil ghosts and skeletons into loot puree. Crypt of the NecroDancer is one of the weirdest games you will ever play, and not because it’s filled to the brim with sporks and quirky tweens. It's a rhythm-based roguelike that has you matching a song's beat to beat the crap out of baddies. It's a straightforward experience that sounds like one of the most innovative things in gaming, but it's not just a gimmick as underneath the notes and tunes you'll find a full-fledged roguelike with plenty of loot, replayability and challenge. Crypt of the NecroDancer let's you import your own music as well, so can you beat it on Through the Fire and Flames?

Practice at home, at work, or on the bus, with the two bonus soundtracks: the original Danny Baranowsky tracks, and Extended Soundtrack (in two remixed versions, by A_Rival and FamilyJules7X) all available in extreme FLAC, and optimal MP3!

For even more NecroDancer digital-swag, check out the extras pack with a behind-the-scenes Director's Cut video, super-high-res Dance Pad covers, and a bunch of other random stuff.

Got questions for the developers? You’re in luck - Ryan and Heather from Brace Yourself Games will be hanging out on the forums on Monday, August 17th, for a special Q&A session from 8 to 10pm GMT (10pm-12am CEST, 4-6pm EDT, 1-3pm PST) to answer all your pressing questions about the game, the life behind game development, or their favorite cat video of all time.

Unleash your killer dance moves in Crypt of the NecroDancer with GOG Galaxy support for Achievements and Leaderboards. So dance! Dance the dance of the NecroDancer DRM-free on GOG.com! The launch discount will last for one week, until Thursday, August 20, 12:59 PM GMT.

ne_zavarj: Is it playable with kb+m ?
It only uses the arrow buttons on the kb or controller.

Thanks for the reply .

HiPhish: This is a prime example of a game that should have had a demo. I have no idea whether the gameplay is actually good or just a gimmick that gets old after ten minutes.

Zoidberg: You could always... "try it at a friend's place"...
Yes, our good friend Peter is really a conducive youngster.

phaolo: I'm skipping this only because I know that it would be impossible for me lol.
(says before the next uber promo..)

JudasIscariot: There is a character you can easily unlock called the Bard with whom you don't have to worry about the rhythm and just enjoy the game :)
Does this also make the game playable for deaf gamers who never got into the habit of "feeling" the music?
Hell yeah! Finally! :D
Very tempted to instabuy but the paid extras turn me off.

IronArcturus: Will there be a new installer for AvP Classic 2000 that will have the Galaxy leftovers removed as well?
avatar
JudasIscariot: Are you referring to the old Launcher? If so, that's been removed when we went from the Alpha stage of GOG Galaxy to Beta.

Of course, it helps to know what exactly you mean by "leftovers" :)
avatar
hunvagy: Will do and don't worry about it, once I started it through Galaxy, it started behaving again. Game's worth some hassle :)

JudasIscariot: Did you try the offline installer as well?
Bit late on the answer but yes, the offline installer is the one I used to install it. I have Galaxy on my machine, but never use it, ever since it BSOD-d my machine and broke my Pillars of Eternity copy. So I installed it with the exe you get by direct download, and tried to start it. Just crashed straight out of the box, same as Witcher 3 did with the 0-day patch. In both cases starting them once from Galaxy seemed to solve it, after that you can use them without Galaxy. Its quite weird.
Will buy once it is not only compatible with own tracks and Dance pad, but also with Linux. Before that: no.

Good to know! This looks somewhat interesting, so I'll just wishlist it for now.
EDIT: Judas please disregard this question, I know the answer now. (see below posts)

Hey do you know if the Linux version of this game is coming to GOG any time soon?

I guess the Linux version has grown legs as usual.

Possible causes:

1. Not stable enough in GOG's tests.
2. Dev didn't send the Linux version yet.
3. Steam Runtime, again?

Make your bets, I'll go with 3. It seems to be the most common cause nowadays. Just look at Victor Vran, 2 weeks and counting, I lost the hype for that game and when the Linux version comes here, probably there won't be the same chance for a discount the Windows / Mac users had either.

Turns out it's 4. Devs' heads shoved too far up their collective asses.

WHAT? They postponed linux release on GOG because "GOG galaxy for linux is not ready"? And that if its never release for linux?

From release description it was mere of 10% off on release. Dont feel as big discount for me...3-6 months you can hope for 30-40% off on occasion.

I know, the discount was petty, for me it's more about principle than price. Windows got the 10% discount, Mac got the 10% discount and as such I expect Linux users get the same treatment, the devs knew they would release a game on GOG and the Steam Runtime can be bundled for non Steam use, completely free of charge. 2 weeks have passed now, the Linux version is still not here while they're all jolly happy announcing some new expansion for the game.

It doesn't take 2 weeks to make the non steam version run without Steam on Linux.
