Brick out these construction plans.

Craft The World, a sandbox strategy game where you build your own dwarf fortress, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com for Windows and Mac with GOG Galaxy support for achivements and multiplayer and a 50% launch discount.

Conquering the world can be a pretty epic and thrilling undertaking, but it usually leaves you saddled with the resources and constructions of its previous owner(s). Where's the fun in that? Play God instead, and manage your own tribe of laborious dwarves as they build a home for themselves on a randomly generated island, full of opportunities and untapped real estate potential.

Mine the surface and subsurface world for resources, build a fortress fit for a vertically challenged king, and defeat any malicious creatures that want to claim it for themselves. Grow your dwarf workforce, craft them better weapons and equipment but also provide them with food, furniture, ammunition, and decent living conditions. And if you Craft The World as impressive as your divine powers allow, be prepared to use your magic in order to discourage the hordes of monsters that will come pouring through portals to bang at your doors.

Craft The World as sturdy, stylish, and efficient as you please, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 50% discount will last until February 10, 1:59 PM GMT.
So is this like 2D Minecraft? Or is it similar to Terraria?

IAmSinistar: It sounds from all the chatter that I need to finally try Terraria. :)

This does have nice graphics though, I think I would find the buildings in this one more pleasing than those in Terraria.
Yes, you do. If you like sandbox, exploration, and platforming then it's right up your alley. I don't even like platforming but I'm all over Terraria.

These buildings look a bit more cartoony but otherwise seem similar. I think you'll have more variety in building materials in Terraria.
So, basically it's just a very simplified Dwarf Fortress game? :P

Thanks for the feedback, I think I shall install it and give it a go tonight. Cheers!

I've played both Terraria and Craft the World and personally I like the mechanics of Craft the World better. Graphical style and crafting are similar but the Dwarf Fortress reminiscent play of giving orders and hoping your dwarves follow them makes it more fun for me than in Terraria where it's all platformer style play to get around the map. I also don't like how in Terraria crafting it's never find one of these rare objects and craft something, it's find 10 of those rare objects, or better yet find a way to farm 'rare' objects so that you can make the next tier of things.
i think i have one game looking like that, i played it once, but its not my style, i guess i stick to simpler games like Braveland i have these 3 games and i hope they will make another one :D

games like terraria and this one have to many movements, like platform jumping games so playing or looking at videos turns my stomache and my feet go wobbly ((game)motionsickness) so i avoid these game, plus they usually have lots of animated lights and effects (photosensitivity)

The upcoming new Wadjet game looks like it will suite me better so i am waiting for its release, so far i have all the olde wadjet eye games. (havent played all them , but i have them)

It's both of those, really. For instance, to make your own armors and many weapons then it's "collect 80 of this, craft it into bars, then craft those bars into the item". But the other part is "Collect rare-ish item drop A, combine with rare-ish item drop B, to make item C, which can then be further crafted into item G, then later M. I'm fighting that battle myself, to make the damn Cell Phone. ; ) One item short.

This new release looks fun, though, and 50% off is nothing to sneeze at. Do the different gameplay elements RTS, tower defense, building, crafting, etc.) work well together or does it seem like they were throwing the kitchen sink at the game?
This looks like a game I could love to play. I.E. dangerous.
I hope to see some reviews soon.

Just checked my spreadsheet, and it turns out I had already tried Terraria. I recall it now and was somewhat put off by the platforming aspect. Didn't like how combat worked either. So perhaps this new game is more my cuppa, with its less direct control scheme. Assuming, as you point out, that the disparate elements form a cohesive whole.
So, uh, it's a crap version of dwarf fortress? For money?

Lemme(y) think...NO.

Instead I am going to go outside, jump off my front porch onto a shubbery and say I'm climbing a tree!

Then charge myself money for doing it! Yeah, that's what I'll do.

I didn't think I'd like the platforming but it gets better once you acquire some items that help you get around easier (particularly the jumping stuff). But yeah, maybe this new one will fit the bill for you. Tempted to pick it up myself.
Having a little trouble getting started but it's fun. It tells me the 1st thing I have to do is make a totem but it doesn't tell me how. Need to figure this out. :P

Yes, I probably didn't have enough patience on my playthrough. That's one of the problems with a big backlog, I tend to not give a game much of a chance if it doesn't hook me right away. Just watched the video for this one and it does seem more my speed though. I like that your units are semi-autonomous, freeing you up for supervisory roles.

Are you guys talking about Terraria or this game? :P

Both. :)

I wasn't too keen on Terraria, though I may not have given it enough of a chance, and am considering this one as it looks to be a better match to my play preferences.
